    a. Apply the steps of the Nursing Process in the care of paediatric patients.b. Perform basic Nursing procedures indicated to paediatric patients.

    c. Describe normal growth and development from infancy to adolescence.

    d. Measure the anthropometric measurement.

    At the end of the exposure, the students will be able to:

    a. Define terms related to paediatric nursing.

    b. Discuss normal growth and development of an infant, toddler, preschooler, school age and

    adolescent.

    c. Identify physical and developmental birth defects/disorders based on handled cases.d. Enumerate common respiratory, gastrointestinal, hematologic, urinary disorders/ diseases.

    e. Recall nursing interventions used in the care of children with diseases.

    d. Relate clinical manifestations of podiatric patients with respiratory, gastrointestinal, urinary, and

    hematologic disorders/diseases.

    e. Interpret blood laboratory findings and relate to patients condition.

    f. Formulate nursing diagnoses.

    c. Compute IV fluids rate and drug dosages.

    b. Give problem solving computation using the patients present IV Fluid and medications.

    C Description of Field Experience Activity

    4th Year

    5th week after lecture/demonstration and return demonstration of students in the Pediatric skill lab.

    2. Organizational structure (e.g. single time block, distributed time blocks, recurrent schedule of

    XXX days per week):

    Laboratory training: Week 1 to Week 3

    Hospital training: Week 4 to Week 8

    Number of hours/week over 8 weeks = Total contact hours

    2 days/week over 7.5 weeks 12 hours/week over 7.5 weeks = 90 Contact hours/Credit hours

    3. Student Activities Describe the principal activities in which the students will be involved during

    the field experience:

    a. Orientation of the students on the following :

    - Physical set-up of the hospital

    - Personnel / organizational chart

    - Ward / unit set up, supplies, instruments and equipments

    - Protocols, policies and procedures of the hospital

    -Patients medical records and forms

    - Grading system and requirements such as attendance, performance evaluation, nursing care

    plan, case study.

    b. Reading of patients chart with understanding.

    c. Gather health history and do physical examination.

    d. Formulate nursing care plan.

    e. Assess gestational age of Newborn.

    f. Perform nursing procedures like checking vital signs, anthropometric measurements, bathing,

    feeding, restraining, initiating IV fluid therapy, administering medications, oxygen therapy and

    suctioning.

    supervising faculty from the institution, (e.g. Consultation, planning with and advice to field

    evaluation tools in every area.

    D Planning and Preparation

    1. Identification of Field Placements. What processes are used to identify appropriate field

    placements?

    a. Meeting/Conferences the lecturer must enumerate skills learned in the classroom to be performed in

    the clinical area.

    b. Assessment / Evaluation Checklists, evaluation tools must be revised, focusing not only on the steps

    of the basic nursing procedures but also on the attitude and knowledge of students.2. Preparation of Field Supervisors. Briefly describe and indicate timing of arrangements made to

    ensure full understanding of roles and responsibilities of supervising faculty/staff in the field setting.

    achieve set objectives for the exposure.

    preparation of students for participation in the field experience activity. (Cross reference to any

    a. Skills Laboratory Demonstration and return demonstration of the basic nursing skills in the laboratory,to make the students equipped with technical know how in operating machines, equipments for the

    the field location for student assessment:

    There must be a clear protocol on how and the extent of a field supervisors responsibility in

    assessing students and preceptors in the unit.

    3. Supervising Faculty Responsibility for Assessment. Describe the responsibility of supervisingfaculty from the institution for student assessment:

    Assess if there are limitations to perform certain procedures that are available in the unit. Note any

    procedure available to add for the incoming semester.

    4 Resolution of Differences in Assessments. If supervising staff in the field location and faculty from

    the institution share responsibility for student assessment, what process is followed for resolving any

    differences between them?

    2. Describe the planning arrangements for periodically reviewing the effectiveness of the field

    experience and planning for improvement:

    Departmental meeting at the end of each semester to review results of course evaluation

    questionnaire, student outcomes, weakness, strengths and course teachers recommendations for

    improvement which mentioned in course reports

    Annual reviews and updates of course specification according to field and scientific updates

    Plan for improvement and revision of field experience specification according to course report at

    the end of each semester.

    Regular departmental meetings (every two months) to represent student achievement, issues,

    problems, and student weaknesses.
