How (post-program)?

• Improved quality of intellectual and social life for students in the college through your organization and participation in cultural programs, seminars, brown bags, and other learning opportunities; e.g. increased motivation for you to pursue the design and implementation of your own such programs as future faculty members

• Enhanced quality of internationally oriented activities in the college (e.g. skilled provision of comprehensive cross-cultural orientation programming to international students in the college)

Expectations• Full engagement

• Your participation and engagement with all aspects of preparation• Your time investment in reading, meetings, filling out forms, and other preparatory

tasks

• Your openness• Your participation as member of team

• Your respect for the norms and rules that (while you may not agree with them all) you accept for the good of the group (e.g. travel policy)

• Some expenses (books for preparation) as well as some in-country expenses

Expectations (while traveling)• Your full attendance, participation and energy at all events from start to finish• Your respect for the group norms you develop with your country team• Distractions left at home (work, school, family and friends) to greatest extent

possible• Your respect for the home cultures, norms, practices and traditions• Some expenses (tips) for personnel (drivers, guides, hotel staff, etc.)

No friends or family may join you at any time during program travel

Immediate Logistics be ready and responsive to your program directors’ emails about times for meetings and materials to prepare

Do you have a valid passport? Passport forms can be downloaded at the U.S. State Department web site

Is your passport signed and valid for at least 6 months beyond the travel date?

Does your passport have at least four blank visa pages?

Visa requirements and processes vary by country, for students from different countries of origin

Get visa advice from OISS in the International Studies Center or your country’s embassy

Faculty leaders do not have the expertise to advise you on visa issues

Vaccinations and Medicines

Other Important Travel Considerations Budget sufficient funds to cover expenses (those exceeding the fellowship) Ensure funds are either accessible from abroad (credit card, ATM) or can be carried with you You may need to pay cash for most of your purchases, especially in smaller towns Prior to departure, inform your faculty leader if you have special needs, or diet restrictions, or

if you require special assistance in the host country Check with your cell phone provider about service & charges in the host countryGet information on the local currency and exchange rates Inform your family or friends where and how you can be reached while abroad.

information about your destination
