Objectives:PURPOSE: To develop an enhanced understanding of the M-STEP

analysis report to support instructional practices and increase student

achievement.

LEARNING TARGETS:

• Develop an understanding of the alignment of the Michigan Learning

Standards with Claims and Assessment Targets

• Use of the Crosswalk document as a guide to understand the M-STEP

reports

• Access M-STEP and ELA/Math Claim resources to plan for student

instruction

• Access Aggregate Data on the Secure Site

ELA Updates (Grades 3-8)Limited administration of the Performance Task (PT)

• ELA Performance Task now assessed Grades 5 and 8 only, beginning in Spring 2016

• One extended response item (“essay question”)

• PT and non-PT grades will have consistent points per Claim

ELA Non-Performance Task changes at grades 3, 4, 6, 7

• Added short Constructed Response (CR) and Selected Response (SR)

Page 6: February, 2016 Dearborn Public Schools...ELA Updates (Grades 3-8) Limited administration of the Performance Task (PT) •ELA Performance Task now assessed Grades 5 and 8 only, beginning

• The Math Performance Task will remain in all grades 3-8

• Math Equation Builder – new and improved

• Students will no longer have to open a separate window to use an equation builder

• Practice with tool in fall 2015

Math Updates

Science & Social Studies UpdateM-STEP Science and Social Studies

● Continue with M-STEP Science at grades 4, 7, 11● Continue with M-STEP Social Studies at grades 5,

8, 11● Aligned to current standards (GLCEs, HSCEs)Changes for S16 administration

● Adding Technology-enhanced (TE) field test items to online tests

Future Activities

● The new MI Science Curriculum was passed● Require new items, new item types, new

assessments aligned to new standards (2018)

Student Growth Percentile

Page 9: February, 2016 Dearborn Public Schools...ELA Updates (Grades 3-8) Limited administration of the Performance Task (PT) •ELA Performance Task now assessed Grades 5 and 8 only, beginning

Student Growth Percentiles

● Student Growth Percentiles (SGPs) describe a student’s learning over time compared to other students with comparable prior test scores

● Percentiles range from 0 to 99 and indicate how many scores in the comparison group are below that score. For example, a Student Growth Percentile (SGP) of 60 means the student’s learning was greater than 60 percent of all students who took the same test and had comparable prior test scores

Math Claims“Students can demonstrate progress toward college and career readiness in mathematics.”

Claim 1: Concepts and ProceduresStudents can explain and apply mathematical concepts and interpret and carry out mathematical procedures with precision and fluency. Claim 2: Problem SolvingStudents can solve a range of complex well-posed problems in pure and applied mathematics, making productive use of knowledge and problem solving strategies.

Claim 3: Communicating ReasoningStudents can clearly and precisely construct viable arguments to support their own reasoning and to critique the reasoning of others. Claim 4: Modeling and Data AnalysisStudents can analyze complex, real-world scenarios and can construct and use mathematical models to interpret and solve problems
