Lectura, as de Hoy

Jeremias 17:5-8 Salmo 1:1-2, 3, 4 y 6

1 Corintios 15:12, 16-20 Lucas 6:17, 20-26

Today’s gospel, the beginning of the Sermon on the

Plain, contains the core of the good news with which

we are entrusted. Jesus speaks good news to the

poor: theirs is the kingdom of God. He turns our

ordinary perceptions on their heads. The poor have

the kingdom; the rich are rejected. We are blessed

when people hate us; we are in trouble when we are

satiated.

Paul in the second reading describes the most para-

doxical event we must witness: a dead man has

been raised to life. We live in a culture of death;

Christians must proclaim a word of life and resur-

rection in the midst of this death. Like the Beati-

tudes, this message sounds foolish to the wisdom of

this world. But as Paul says, if Christ does not live,

we are all dead.

In this topsy-turvy world that appears to be coming

apart at the seams, perhaps only a gospel of the os-

tensibly absurd can break through and save us. As

Jeremiah vouches, we have trusted in human be-

ings for most of our history. In God’s eyes such

trust is a curse. We are challenged today to trust in

the Lord, to have our hope in this ridiculous Lord of

the poor, the persecuted, the meek, the hungry. On-

ly such faith brings life and allows us to grow like

the wonderful tree Jeremiah pictures.

Somos bendecidos

cuando la gente nos odia;

do.

aparentemente absurdo pueda abrirse paso y salvar-

DSA

As we look at our lives and the many ways God has blessed us, let us give back a proportionate gift to the Diocesan Sup-port Appeal as a way of saying thank you to the Lord. God will never be outdone in

generosity. If you did not turn in your completed pledge envelope during today’s Mass, you may complete a pledge enve-lope and return it to the Parish Office or go to charlottediocese.org/dsa to make a

gift online.

Mass Schedule

I would like for everyone to know, everything will remain the same as it has always been. The only change that has been made is 1:30 mass time has moved to 2:00 pm.
