The Story

The pride of a tradition that has lasted over 160 years

Rivas historical archive has collected a priceless wealth of documents, films, photographs and objects that recount an important chapter in the history of the world leisure craft industry unveiling, in a unique and inimitable way

over 160 years' of history of one of the oldest boat yards in the world.

Perfectly preserved and cataloged, through careful and painstaking work according to the highest European standards for this type

of activity, Rivas Historical Archive is divided into four main groups: images, films, documents and objects that, in turn, include

photographs, negatives, slides, black and white and colour prints, 16 and 35 mm films (some silent and some with a soundtrack),

projects, original drawings, catalogs, price lists, promotional material and posters as well as a collection of historical objects

including boat accessories and furnishing that nowadays have become true cult objects for all those who love style, design and

"industrial art".

It is the only archive of its kind in the world, a treasure in continuous growth that benefits, on the one hand, from new and

precious contributions from Rivas research and development team - aimed mainly at reconstructing historical events, restoring

materials kept inside and outside the yard and collecting the most precious testimonies of those personalities that have helped

establish Riva throughout the world and, on the other, from numerous private funds, amongst which those of Mr Rivas himself, Mr.

Barilani - the well-known Riva's architect, Mauro Micheli - designer of all Riva 33 to 115 feet boats currently in production, Andrea

Fustinoni - through his hospitality rich in emotions and memories at the Grand Hotel Miramare in Santa Margherita Ligure, and

Norberto Ferretti, Riva and the Ferretti group's chairman, that, was the first to provide the Riva archive with precious unpublished

materials.

The first images are now available on-line including, amongst other things, a complete version of the photographic exhibition of

the Riva's Historical Archive presentation, an anthology of charming stories about the sea and Riva, a series of books dedicated to

the history, style, design and charm of Riva's meetings, a collection of the drawings and sketches of the most famous Riva boats

and, a preview of a series of images of the Reasoning collection, the most complete collection of Riva boats in the world.

Polaris RANGER RZR XP™ 900

With so many premium features, the 2011 Polaris RANGER RZR XP™ 900 is not just at the head of its class, it’s in a class by itself.

88 HP 900 Twin EFI Engine: Specifically built for an extreme performance Side x Side. The Polaris ProStar™ 900 features industry-leading 88 HP, Dual OverHead Cams (DOHC), large valves for high RPM power and 180 degree crank shaft for balanced performance. This delivers fast throttle response, groundbreaking power and

revolutionary acceleration.Xtreme Performance Power to Weight: It's 29% quicker than the next closest competitor. This revolutionary acceleration is made possible by the 88 HP lightweight engine and total vehicle weight combined with big-

time power to the ground. The result is loads of torque to all four wheels and unsurpassed off-road acceleration.

Lightweight, Compact Transmission: Specifically built to optimize power of the new Polaris ProStar™ 900 engine, its high-torque capacity delivers superior performance and handling. This means more power to the ground, less driveline noise and lighter weight. The innovative lightweight design features a helical cut final

drive with optimized gear geometry to maximize efficiency.3-Link Trailing Arm Long Travel IRS: We designed the all-new 3-Link Trailing Arm IRS to handle all that

massive power and keep the ride smooth. The 3-Link design consists of two extra-long radius rods and a far forward-connecting trailing arm resulting in a strong yet lightweight system.

Never-Before-Seen Travel & Ground Clearance: The new 3-Link Trailing Arm IRS, paired with premium Fox Shocks, creates a monstrous 14" of terrain-absorbing rear travel. Match that with an astounding 13.5" of

front travel and 13" of ground clearance and no comparison is required. Hands down, RANGER RZR XP™ owns the desert, the dunes and any wide open space.

Premium Shocks with Front Dual A-Arm Suspension: Standard on all 4 corners are premium Fox Podium X 2.0 Shocks with piggy-back reservoirs - compression and preload adjustable. Pair that with Dual-A-Arm front

suspension with 13.5" of travel and it soaks up the rough stuff and delivers a smooth, precise ride every time.Low Center of Gravity: Even with 13" of ground clearance, RANGER RZR XP™ still has a class-leading low

center of gravity for the ultimate ride through rough terrain. Its patented engine-behind-the-seat design and rear weight bias deliver extreme, razor-sharp agility and performance.

Unmatched Cornering and Straight-Away Agility: The new 3-Link race inspired rear suspension maximizes traction and power in corners and straightaways. Tires lean into the corner through the suspension travel, planting more tire surface on the ground to create positive tire camber for more control. The trailing arms

also minimize wheel scrub for superior straightaway power, helping you stay true to your line.On-Demand True All-Wheel Drive: True AWD gives you the ultimate grip to put that 88 HP to work in the

corners, whoops and loose terrain. It’s the easiest to use and fastest responding on-demand system, automatically engaging all four wheels when you need more forward traction and reverting back to 2WD when

you don’t. This means less wear and tear, easier steering, and maximizes power when you need it most.

BANYANHOTELS

I personally believe the Banyan hotels are the most Romantic in the worldPlease visit their web site and see for yourself

Here below is one I have sampled

Koh Samui, Thailand Set on a pristine white beach, the 78 all-pool villa Banyan Tree Samui combines the best elements of a tropical getaway with

white beaches and sun, while being just 19 km from Samui International Airport.

Overlooking the sapphire waters of scenic Lamai Bay, the resort is nestled in a series of cascading terraces on a private hill cove in the south-eastern coast of Koh Samui.

Retreat from the bustle of the outside world and into a secluded haven where your days pass in a gentle flow of tranquillity, while being serenaded to sleep by the deep blue swells of the Gulf of Thailand and cool sea breezes. Pampering features

abound including iconic dining venues, the island's largest individual infinity pools in the villas, as well as The Rainforest, Koh Samui's only hydrotherapy wellness facility.

What people sayThe Banyan Tree Samui is the best resort I've ever stayed at.

1. Staff: incredible. They were actually interested in whether we were enjoying ourselves. 2. Restaurant: The breakfast / brunch is AMAZING. I had a special request for sauteed morning glory with egg whites which they

prepared for me each morning with a great view. 3. The Room: BEYOND LUXURY. The bathroom is crazy luxury with rain shower, free-standing bath tub and Italian marble. We didn't

want to leave the room it was so beautiful. 4. Spa, the best massage I've had in my life and the experience was incredible - so relaxing.

If you want a romantic, unforgettable holiday, Banyan Tree Koh Samui is the way to go.

Page 15: FEB Opimus edition

We had a fantastic holiday and firmly believe that the Banyan Tree is the best property in Koh Samui, by far, and establishes a new

benchmark of luxury, service and hospitality.

Cool Bars around the World Mexico

Situated in the heart of Puebla, Mexico, Hotel La Purificadora is a swanky upscale hotel built from the wreckage of a 19th century water-bottling factory. Although the exposed brickwork and industrial columns of the original plant’s exterior have been preserved, the interior of the hotel is full of modern designs like purple

cubist sofas, rough granite walls, and glass-floored balconies.

One of the hotel’s most impressive features is its roof top bar which runs parallel to a long glass-walled swimming pool. By day Hotel La Purificadora’s bar is perfect for lounging in the sun, voyeu istically watching

swimmers pass by. But by night the vibe is totally different.

USAGhostbar’s outdoor-indoor design and vantage point slightly off the main drag make it one of the best

places in the city to see breathtaking views of The Strip. The main bar and dance floor are inside, but the indoor rooms open up to an outdoor deck with clear panels as railing. Since there are no visible barriers between party-goers and the 55 story drop below, the deck feels like it is floating above the strip, giving

party-goers 180 degrees of unobstructed views.

New YorkCelebrity Hangouts

RDV New York, NY 10013Though abbreviated for ‘rendezvous,’ this under-the-radar, under Bagatelle hotspot comes up all but short on celebrity. With its hip, chic mix of classical Victorian and Modern Art, it comes at no surprise that this nightclub attracts a similar cache. Hosting various industry events, most recently for 2009’s New York City fashion week, this venue is typically rife with model types. And where there are model types, there are usually a few working models in the mix: Le Call, for one. And where there are models, there are inevitably C-listers that desperately want to be seen with them: David Schwimmer and Josh Lucas. (Sorry, Dr. Ross Gellar. You know we will always love you and your dinosaur toys.) Fashion week or not, this lavish, subterranean dwelling attracts great names.

Rose bar 2 Lexington AvenueNew York, NY 10010When it comes to this posh New York City lounge, the question to ask is: What celebrity hasn’t been to Rose Bar at the Gramercy Park Hotel …at least 3 or 4 times? The answer: not the Olsen twins, Chace Crawford or David Beckham. Hell, Cruz, Romeo and Brooklyn Beckham have most likely had a late night at Rose Bar. Point is; Rose Bar is the place of places in New York City. Ask anyone; the intriguing drink menu is as sweet as its floral repute implies. Word on the street is that Calvin Klein model Jamie Burke has been known to show up for a round of Pool or two. Lessons anyone?

Page 20: FEB Opimus edition

Chloe 81 81 Ludlow StreetNew York, NY 10002Pegged, by many, as the Lower East Side’s counter to the West Village’s Beatrice Inn, Chloe 81 is semi-secretly situated beneath the restaurant, Canasis. Chloe 81's walls covered with cream-white tiling, glowing as if shellacked with a splash of Dom Perignon, provide a richly serene juxtaposition to the blood-red leather couches where Lindsey Lohan is said to camp night after night. The beer is reasonably priced for the select status that Chloe 81 claims. However, it is hardly the reason for Lohan’s frequent appearances. If not for the scene or the cheap beer, go to catch the bar-closing fight that will inevitably keep the tabloids speculating of another SamRo/Lohan split.

Gold bar 389 Broome StreetNew York, NY 10013Even if you ain’t one, you will feel like one, once allowed past the heavily guarded gates of this glitzy and entirely exclusive West Village bungalow. The interior’s plush, velvety blues and golden hues are sure to delight your senses. Spotted here on any given night are New York City’s industry types galore… ala the Hills’ Olivia Palermo or Lia Sophia’s Dani Stahl. If these ladies aren’t high enough on your celeb list, try your luck at getting in when Diddy hosts one of his out-of-this-world soirees at Goldbar.

Page 21: FEB Opimus edition

THE BOX Run by the progeny of Oscar Hammerstein I, co-writer of South Pacific and The Sound of Music, (…admit it, as a youngster, you secretly wished to be one of musically talented Von Trapp children, no? Just me?) this Lower East Side dine-in theater/speakeasy attracts the serious craft-types. With Rachel Weisz, Julia Stiles and Jude Law as some of the venue’s board members, it is hard to imagine a lesser known crowd in attendance. If it’s not the famous actors that chill at this New York City den, then it’s definitely the actors who think they are famous; which could be almost as entertaining.

THE STANTON 99 Stanton StreetNew York, NY 10002

There is no place in New York City that does celebrity quite like The Stanton Social. This Lower East Side destination is known for its delectable tapas and imaginative, alcoholic inventions, as well as the notable names it attracts. (I.e. Jessica Alba and Cash Warren) Opened in 2005, it is still almost impossible to get a reservation at this tri-level, late-night scene. The space, with innumerable, closely-situated tables to accommodate around 200 guests, may find you sitting on top of a celebrity, rather than near one. (Pending celebrity appearance on any given night, arguably, a win-win situation.)

SINGAPORESPECIAL

A Journey into Singapore’s PastWhile the earliest known historical records of Singapore are shrouded in the mists of time, a third century Chinese account describes it as "Pu-luo-chung", or the "island at the end of a peninsula". Later, the city was known as Temasek ("Sea Town"), when the first settlements were established from AD 1298-1299.During the 14th century, this small but strategically located island earned a new name. According to the legend, Sang Nila Utama, a Prince from Palembang (the capital of Srivijaya), was out on a hunting trip when he caught sight of an animal he had never seen before. Taking it to be a good sign, he founded a city where the animal had been spotted, naming it “The Lion City” or Singapura, from the Sanskrit words “simha” (lion) and “pura” (city). At this time, the city was then ruled by the five kings of ancient Singapura. Located at the tip of the Malay Peninsula, the natural meeting point of sea routes, the city served as a flourishing trading post for a wide variety of sea crafts, from Chinese junks, Indian vessels, Arab dhows and Portuguese battleships to Buginese schooners. The next important period in the history of Singapore was during the 18th century, when modern Singapore was founded. At this time, Singapore was already an up and coming trading post along the Malacca Straits, and Britain realized the need for a port of call in the region. British traders needed a strategic venue to refresh and protect the merchant fleet of the growing empire, as well as forestall any advance made by the Dutch in the region. The then Lieutenant-Governor of Bencoolen (now Bengkulu) in Sumatra, Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles landed in Singapore on 29 January 1819, after a survey of the neighboring islands. Recognizing the immense potential of the swamp covered island, he helped negotiate a treaty with the local rulers, establishing Singapore as a trading station. Soon, the island’s policy of free trade attracted merchants from all over Asia and from as far away as the US and the Middle East.In 1832, Singapore became the center of government for the Straits Settlements of Penang, Malacca and Singapore. With the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 and the advent of the telegraph and steamship, Singapore's importance as a center of the expanding trade between the East and West increased tremendously. By 1860, the thriving country had a population that had grown from a mere 150 in 1819 to 80,792, comprising mainly Chinese, Indians and Malays.

Page 23: FEB Opimus edition

But the peace and prosperity of the country suffered a major blow during World War II, when it was attacked by the Japanese aircraft on 8 December 1941. Once regarded as an impregnable fortress, Singapore fell under the Japanese invasion on 15 February 1942. It remained occupied by the Japanese for the next three and half years, a time marked by great oppression and an immense loss of lives.

When the Japanese surrendered in 1945, the island was handed over to the British Military Administration, which remained in power until the dissolve of the Straits Settlement comprising Penang, Melaka and Singapore. In March 1946, Singapore became a Crown Colony. In 1959, the growth of nationalism led to self-government, and the country’s first general election. The People’s Action Party (PAP) won a majority of 43 seats and Lee Kuan Yew became the first prime minister of Singapore. In 1961, Singapore joined Malaya and merged with the Federation of Malaya, Sarawak and North Borneo to form Malaysia in 1963. However, the merger proved unsuccessful, and less than two years later on 9 August 1965, Singapore left Malaysia to become an independent and sovereign democratic nation. On 22 December that year, Singapore finally became an independent republic.

Page 24: FEB Opimus edition

Today, you can experience Singapore’s rich historical heritage by visiting many of the national monuments, museums and memorials located around the city. On your trip here, remember to take a walk along one of the many heritage trails or visit the well-known landmarks for a complete Singapore journey.

Many people marvel at the beauty of Singapore and her progressiveness. Most impressive to note is that she was formerly just a humble fishing village, inhabited by an indigenous settlement.Fast forward to today. Singapore is a bustling cosmopolitan city populated with high-rise buildings and landscape gardens. Brimming with a harmonious blend of culture, cuisine, arts and architecture, Singapore is a dynamic city that’s rich in contrast and colour. In fact, you can even say that Singapore embodies the finest of both East and West.Located in Southeast Asia, Singapore has a land area of about 710 square kilometers, making her one of the smallest countries in the world and the smallest in the region – hence the moniker “The Little Red Dot”. Although small in size, Singapore commands an enormous presence in the world today with its free trade economy and highly efficient workforce. Also, her strategic location in the region has enabled her to become a central sea port along major shipping routes.Other than having a sound business infrastructure and favorable economic climate, another factor for Singapore’s rapid growth is due to a stable and competent ruling government. Singapore is a parliamentary republic with a political system that’s centered on democracy. The current ruling party in government is The People’s Action Party (PAP), which has dominated the political process since self-government in 1959.At present, Singapore’s population stands at about five million people, with English as the main language of instruction, and a mother tongue for each major ethnicity. One of the distinctly Singaporean things you’ll notice on our island is a ubiquitous collage of cultures. Coming together as a society and living in harmony, there are four major races – namely the Chinese (majority), Malay, Indian and Eurasian. Each community offers a different perspective of life in Singapore in terms of culture, religion, food and language.

Page 25: FEB Opimus edition

Being a multi-racial society, Singapore is as diverse as it is cohesive. With so much to see and do, this is perhaps best experienced through your encounters with the locals. And if you’re feeling nostalgic and looking to discover old world charm, you can explore and experience the island’s key historical landmarks or memorials. You can also embark on a heritage trail and enjoy the sights and sounds at various cultural precincts, notably Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam.

If you prefer the bright city lights and being amidst the hustle and bustle, then you’ll be delighted to know that there are numerous shopping malls, museums, and dining and entertainment hotspots to choose from. Get into the thick of the shopping action at the iconic Orchard Road stretch, or party the night away at the Clarke Quay or Boat Quay areas, both of which offer a myriad selection of nightlife activities.

The other thing that will strike you most about Singapore is its multifarious offering of food – day or night, there will always be something to whet your appetite. With a range of dining options from Peranakan to Chinese, Indian to Malay, fusion and more, you’ll be spoilt for choice.Beyond the history, culture, people, shopping and food, there are many more facets to Singapore’s thriving cityscape for you to discover. And these can only be experienced as you immerse yourself in the exploration of this once fishing village turned cosmopolitan city.

With scenic views to kill for and a decadent bar line-up, a visit to New Asia is an indulgent time in the sky. Its position in one of the tallest buildings in Singapore means the view is unparalleled, but that’s to be expected when you’re 71 floors off the ground. However, the trip is also well worth it, with a great selection of premium drinks and exclusive champagnes to get you in the mood.

The DJ keeps the ambience on track by dishing out everything from funk, house, electro and Motown tunes. Catch the sunset while relaxing in one of New Asia’s lounges and have an experience that won’t soon be forgotten.

Revel with the stars

Pangaea, the world renowned entertainment venue, will make its Asian debut in one of Marina Bay Sand’s striking glass and steel Crystal Pavilions. Floating above Marina Bay, Pangaea is a sophisticated night club that is accessible through an underwater tunnel. It also features the Ultra-Lounge which can hold up to 500 party revelers a night.

Singapore’s signature club

If you only have time for one club in Singapore, then it simply has to be Zouk. Probably Singapore’s only nightspot of international repute, Zouk remains both an institution and a rite of passage for young people in the city-state.

It has spawned several other clubs in neighboring countries like Malaysia, and even has its own dance festival – Sentosa’s ZoukOut. Zouk is made up of three clubs and a wine bar, with the main room showcasing techno and house music. Velvet Underground is more relaxed and exclusive, while Phuture is experimental and racier than the rest, just as its name suggests.

Zouk’s global reputation means it’s home to all manner of leading world DJs, from Carl Cox and Paul Oakenfold to the Chemical Brothers and Primal Scream. Zouk also holds its famous Mambo Jambo retro nights on Wednesdays, another reason why a night at Zouk is one to savour.
