Council Meeting

The Trinity Council met on January 12. December ended with a checking balance of $-68.06. Current line of credit (borrowed from the General Savings account) is $15,225. Pastor Paul led discussion on “Significant Relational Groupings” from Twelve Keys to an Effective Church by Kennon Callahan. Discussed the restructuring of committees in conjunction with the reduction in the number of members attending Council meetings. Also talked about moving forward with one mission priority (Helping the Hungry). Did some brainstorming on how to reduce the Line of Credit. Kim emphasized the 2nd Annual Mission Meal (semi-formal dinner) on February 28th. Looking for two adults as Confirmation Guides/mentors. Complete copy of minutes is available on

the display rack outside the office.

Morning

Reflections

Begun in

1984

Information found in the February, 1984, issue of the Trinity Trumpet: A steering committee is being formed to help guide and direct the radio ministry which we will begin on KBEW in a few weeks. The added ministry was proposed and approved with the 1984 budget at the annual meeting held on January 26. It will be the committee’s responsibility to establish goals and content directions. Basically, the air time will be 5 minutes each day from Monday through Saturday. The proposed time is 8:55-9:00 a.m. each day, a time previously sponsored by Faith Lutheran Church until Pastor Vesta moved. Gifts are welcome at any time to cover the costs which are $5.00 per day or $25.00 per week. Sponsorships of this weekly radio ministry declined over the years. In January, 2013, Shell Foodmart (Robert Weerts) agreed to sponsor Morning Reflections. In April, 2015, Trinity discontinued Morning Reflections. Pastor Russ Jacobson, Hope United Methodist Church of Blue Earth, now airs a program entitled “Living Hope” on KBEW radio.

DOES HISTORY REPEAT? In researching the year 1984, I learned that there was a proposed Constitutional change, the Lenten theme was on ‘Prayer’, a change was made in Release Time scheduling, Pastor Keith Lentz announced his resignation, a Letter of Call was issued to Stephen Bohling, and a pictorial directory was planned.

Last month I wrote an extensive article about Marcus’ visit to Minnesota. It was definitely a highlight for the year. Thank you to everyone for your kind words about him speaking. He was so grateful to be welcomed by the Trinity family. This month I wanted to do something a little bit different with my article. I wanted to share something I came across about praying for children. Scripture tells us that we are to “armor up” for battle, so that when the day of evil comes, we are prepared. As Christians we can face attacks on a daily basis, and being prepared for the attack helps us to work through it. I was at a youth conference once and one of the speakers said…..”If we don’t teach children to follow Jesus, the world will teach them

not to.” We need to help them to separate the truth from the lies and to help them to know whose voice they should listen to. We don’t really know all the challenges, heartache, and burdens they face in a day. They carry a heavy load somedays, but maybe it would help them to know.. that you have prayed for them head to toe.

• PRAY FOR THEIR MIND: Pray that your children would earnestly seek wisdom and understanding; that

they would value knowledge and discernment; and that their thoughts would stay centered on the

truth of God’s word. ( Proverbs 2:1-6, Proverbs 3:21, James 1:5, Psalm 110:97)

• PRAY FOR THEIR EYES: Ask God to guard your children’s eyes and protect their innocence. Pray that

they would focus their attention on doing what is right. ( Romans 16:19, Proverbs 4:25)

• PRAY FOR THEIR EARS: Pray that your children would be quick to hear and that they would incline

their ears to listen to instruction. (James 1:19, Isaiah 55:3, Proverbs 8:32-34)

• PRAY FOR THEIR MOUTHS: Ask God to keep their tongues from evil and their lips from speaking lies.

Pray that they all their words would be pleasing to Him and others. (Psalm 34: 13; 19:14)

• PRAY FOR THEIR HEART: Ask God to give your children a happy cheerful heart. Pray that they’d come

to faith early and would trust easily and completely in Him. (Proverbs 15:13; Psalm 28:7)

• PRAY FOR THEIR HANDS: Pray that they would be diligent to their word and their hands would not be

idle, but that God would bless, confirm, and establish the work of their hands. ( Eccles. 9:10,

Eccles: 11:6, Proverbs 10: 4-5)

• PRAY FOR THEIR LEGS: Pray that your children would not walk in step with the wicked nor stand in the

way of sinners, but that they’d find wise and godly companions along life’s journey. (Psalm 1:1)

• PRAY FOR THEIR FEET: Ask God to direct their steps, to help them stand fast, and to protect them from

stumbling. (Psalm 17:5, Psalm 27:23-24, Psalm 121:3, Psalm 119:133)
