School of Education FE Established in 1972 to meet the needs of the education courses of other undergraduate programs at Unicamp, the School of Education - FE expanded its operations in the training of Education professionals with the establishment of the undergraduate program in Education (1974) and the implementation of the master’s (1975) and doctorate (1980) programs in Education. At the graduate level, the School is responsible for the Education program and the program of Integrated Education in Chemistry and Physics (in conjunction with 2 other units at Unicamp) and also provides courses to other teaching programs at the University. Considered one of the most important Education schools in Latin America, its graduate programs play a crucial role in the training of higher education personnel in Brazil. With the expansion of graduate education, many of the master’s- and doctorate-level alumni trained by FE are responsible for the implementation of new programs in various regions of the country. Since 2011, FE has also trained educators in the Multiunit Graduate Program in Science and Mathematics Education (Programa de Pós-Graduação Multiunidades em Ensino de Ciências e Matemática - Pecim) in cooperation with the Institute of Physics “Gleb Wataghin”, the Institute of Chemistry and the Institute of Geosciences at Unicamp. Faculty members are organized into research groups that address many topics in the field of education. Graduate and undergraduate students, as well as researchers in a web of national and international relationships participate in investigative projects conducted by the different research groups. Institutions in several Brasilian states and foreign countries such as Argentina, Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, the USA and Uruguay integrate this network. The numerous national and international cooperation agreements have also allowed the professors and graduate students of the unit to participate in exchange programs between different institutions. FE does more than educate professionals for teaching and research. It effectively contributes to the formulation of the national perspective on Education by proposing policies and programs and through the participation of its faculty members in administrative and deliberative bodies at the regional and national levels. In the area of extension, FE has a tradition of forming partnerships with public agencies, serving them through a series of actions, such as the promotion of training programs for teachers and public school administrators throughout the country, and influencing the development of the Brazilian educational system. The School also has a sophisticated distance learning infrastructure that is considered a model in the application of education-related telecommunications resources and allows real-time videoconferencing for teaching and research activities and events to different remote locations and to other countries. The Dr. Joel Martins Library of FE has a specialized collection of 47,000 volumes that includes books, dissertations and journals. These assets include the Maurício Tragtenberg Private Collection, which consists of rare books, manuscripts and personal objects that belonged to Tragtenberg, an intellectual, totaling 10,000 volumes. The Education Heritage Center (Centro de Memória da Educação) of FE also houses the Malba Tahan Private Collection (the pseudonym of professor Júlio César de Mello e Souza), composed of the "Travel Diaries", "Personal Archives" and 120 of his works, including 35 on Mathematics Education. School of Education FEEstablished in 1972 to meet the needs of the education courses of other undergraduate programs at Unicamp, the School of Education - FE expanded its operations in the training of Education professionals with the establishment of the undergraduate program in Education (1974) and the implementation of the master’s (1975) and doctorate (1980) programs in Education.
