HEVAC Installation Frame detail

The installation frame is factory fitted around the Fire Damper to allowexpansion without either distorting or exerting severe stresses within thesurrounding structure within which the assembly is installed. The frame is formed with a “Z” section using galvanised mild steel 1.6mm(16swg) to BS EN 10142 1991. Coating Class FE P02b Z275 NA.Corner brackets manufactured from 1.5mm galvanised mild steel are fixed tothe “Z” section by four 5mm (3/16”) diameter aluminium rivets.A number of fixing tie tabs are positioned equally along each side of theframe, (as indicated below) for positive fixing into the surrounding builder’swork to maintain structural integrity.

Installation

HEVAC/HVCA FramesThe HEVAC/HVCA approved factory fitted InstallationFrame is designed to allow expansion of the damperunder fire conditions, without affecting its integrity or theconstruction it is installed within.

One Piece Corner BracketThe one piece pressed corner bracket is rivetted (usingaluminium rivets) to the ‘‘Z’’ Section which makes theframe. This bracket allows the frame to expand underfire conditions without affecting the integrity of theconstruction it is installed within.

Fixing Tie TabsFor securing the assembly into the builders workstructure as specified by the specifying/authorisingauthority.

Expansion CornersThese pressed corners are fitted into each corner topermit expansion of the fire damper within theconstruction of the frame.

The frame should be installed centrally within thethickness of the surrounding wall or floor. Or, in the caseof thick walls or floors, the centre line of the frame shouldbe at least 50mm away from the nearest face.Where more than one duct penetrates a wall or floor, adjacent fire damper assemblies should be separated bybuilder’s work of a minimum thickness of 225mm. Duringinstallation, all fixing tabs should be bent out and builtinto the surrounding structure so as to ensure ‘‘positivefixing into the surrounding builder’s work’’.The illustrated detail on this page is BSB’s interpretationof the HEVAC/HVCA Installation Frame specification. Foradditional details, contact our sales office.

Special Note:All fire damper installations should be carried out to thesatisfaction of the appropriate district surveyor, fire officerand/or specifying authority as other approved methods ofinstallation may well be used.

Installation Codes of Practice

FD Series Fire Dampers are designed for application innormal dry filtered air systems. If exposed to fresh airintakes and/or inclement conditions the damper shouldbe subject to a planned inspection programme.

Installations involving corrosive and/or aggressive hostileenvironmental conditions (e.g. swimming pools) mayinvalidate our warranty and should be referred to ourSales Office.

Testing and Resetting

BSB Curtain Fire Dampers will need to be testedand reset through an access panel sited in theadjacent ductwork. It is important to note that thedamper should be fitted with the marked “AccessSide” downstream, i.e. on the opposite side to thatof the incoming air-flow.

The damper blades are spring assisted and willclose instantly once the fusible link has beenremoved. We do not recommend that our firedampers be closed while the fan is still operatingas this will stress the ductwork, fan and damper.

Where there is a rise in temperature and during afire situation, the fusible link will part in the centre, releasing the blade pack via the release bracket

Testing and Resetting

situated centrally in the width of the case. Whendrop testing during routine maintenance, thisaction should be replicated to avoid misfiring. Theblade pack must never be supported to one sideonly when releasing or resetting the blade pack.

Comprehensive testing and resetting information isavailable via our Sales Office.

When Fire Dampers are required to beinstalled in apertures with dimensions greaterthan the maximum single unit size, multipleassemblies can be supplied.

HorizontalAssemblies

Multiple Assemblies

Dampers are either welded together as amultiple construction or alternatively suppliedloose with 1.5mm galvanised steel ‘‘U’’shaped joining channels formed 60mm x 40mm.

These would normally be supplied undrilledfor on-site installation by others.

When multiple units are ordered with HEVAC/HVCA approvedinstallation frames, these would be supplied fully assembledwith the installation frame fitted

VerticalAssemblies

Special Note:Before installation, proposed multiple arrangements should beagreed with the appropriate district surveyor, fire officerand/or specifying authority.
