Fiber is a key fac-tor in a healthy diet and most Americans do not get enough. Fiber has many benefits, but yes, it can cause gas. The first thing to be sure of when adding more fiber in your diet is that you do it gradually. If you add fiber slowly to your diet, your body is able to adjust to the change better. Other things you can do to reduce gas are: eating smaller meals and slowing down while eating (anything to reduce the amount of air you are swallowing), drinking plenty of water, reduce the amount of other gas-causing foods (such as carbonated bever-ages) and reducing the chewing of gum.
