Public School
Educa on Week 2017 This week marks Educa on Week in Public Schools across NSW. This years theme is ‘I Learn We Learn’, reflec ng the fact that everyone is a learner in our schools. From students, to staff and to parents—we can always learn.
Public Educa on has existed in NSW since 1848, with Maroubra Bay opening in 1923. In that me many things have come and gone, a shi to smaller classes, increased focus on teacher quality, the rise of technology in classrooms just to name a few.
We have high expecta ons of all our students and, as partners in a students journey, we look forward to many great years ahead.
This morning we had open classrooms from 9am un l 11am and many parents were able to come in and learn with our staff and students. Classes are involved in a variety of ac vi es from Literacy and Numeracy, to Garden and Art programs and Science and Geography lessons. It was a great morning, thanks to the staff for their great lessons and to the many
parents that were able to a end.
Staff Changes Miss Mar na Stojceska joins us at Maroubra Bay this term. Miss Stojceska will take
Years 3‐6 Science classes on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Mrs Lauren Aliozio joins us and will work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week. Mrs Aliozio will take K‐2 Science classes.
Support for students has greatly increased this term. We welcome Miss Belinda (Monday / Tuesday) to work with our aboriginal students, as well as Miss Brenda (Monday to Thursday) and Miss Zoe (Wednesday to Friday) who will work with classes suppor ng students with addi onal needs. Miss Emma and Mrs McAleer will con nue to also support students as per previous terms. A great team of support staff! We will have photos for next newsle er so you know who they all are.
Enjoy your week.

PSSA SPORT All soccer games take place at Coral Sea Park. All netball fixtures take place at Heffron Park.
28th July 2017
4th August 2017 (Upcoming Fixture)
11th August 2017 (Upcoming Fixture) Both our soccer teams have con nued to impress so far this term with strong performances against high quality opposi on. Last week, we took on two very strong South Coogee teams at Coral Sea Park. The juniors went down 1‐0 in a very close en‐counter with a lucky goal from a corner being the only difference between the two teams. The senior game finished in 1‐1 draw. In a pulsa ng game that went from end to end, it took a last minute equaliser from South Coogee’s most dangerous player to ensure the points were shared. It was a mixed round for our netball teams with the juniors win‐ning a very close game against South Coogee and the seniors

Parking on Duncan St Following a number of parents being fined recently in Duncan St, I have been speaking to Randwick Council about the possibility of a Kiss and Go system at our school. There are a number of issues;
Length of car line available
Moving the bus bay
The current system of pick up for Kinder / Year 1
The possible impact on the community atmosphere of par‐ents mee ng a er school
I will report any news a er the mee ng next week. Thanks. Mr Ackerman
SRC Ice Cream Success Thanks to everyone’s generosity, students raised over $270 towards games in the new Library. New games and puzzles have already been purchased and will soon be available for students to use. A great ini a ve by our Student Representa ve Council (SRC). They also have a pyjama mu i day coming up on Thursday 17th of August.

What people are saying…
What a relief to come across a program that preserves
the dignity of the child, maintains the self control of
both the parent and the child and is actually easy to
remember when memory is the first thing to go!
I realized quickly that the 1‐2‐3 Magic can be a
magnificent preventative measure that any parent can
use to avoid raising a child, who later down the line,
needs excessive discipline or grows out of control
Who is running it?
The presenters for this course are Leonie Menzies and
Marilyn Sheens who are licensed as a 1‐2‐3 Magic® &
Emotion Coaching practitioners.
