MARCH Volume 1, Issue 1 FASNY has been at the forefront of the school lunch program “revolution” since 1994 when the parents hired La Bonne Cuisine Catering to provide healthy hot lunches to their children. The school has been offering healthy and balanced meals long before the subject became a debate in the media. Unlike other schools, the FASNY lunch service is not mandatory. Yet numerous families sign-up and, most importantly, the children eat, enjoy their food, and develop good eating habits in so doing. We are hoping that this new newsletter will meet your changing needs. FASNY: a leader in school lunches SOUPS A GO-GO! We have been serving soups in Mamaroneck for many years but were reluctant to do so with the younger students from fear of spills that would end- up burning the students. We have resolved this issue by pouring the soups into cups a few minutes before the service. For the past several weeks, the little ones have made the soups a big success at the Scarsdale Campus. We are happy to report that we have also introduced the soup to the Larchmont Campus with as much success on February 5 th . Nous servons des soupes à Mamaroneck depuis des années, mais par crainte de brûlures nous ne servions pas les plus jeunes étudiants. Nous avons résolu ce problème en versant les soupes dans des gobelets quelques minutes avant le service. Depuis plusieurs semaines les tout petits de Scarsdale ont fait des soupes un grand succès. Nous sommes heureux d’annoncer que ce succès nous a suivis à Larchmont lors du premier service de soupe le 5 février. FASNY a été au-devant de la « révolution » des cantines quand en 1994 des parents nous ont embauché pour fournir des repas chauds à leurs enfants. L’école offrait des repas saints et équilibrés longtemps avant la médiatisation du sujet. Le service de cantine de FASNY n’est pas obligatoire contrairement à d’autres établissements. Néanmoins les familles s’y inscrivent, et surtout les enfants mangent, apprécient, et développent de bonnes habitudes alimentaires. Avec cette nouvelle « newsletter » nous espérons mieux répondre à vos besoins. Recipe for Success: Sweet Potato and Carrot Soup Quantities for a pot of Soup 1/2 minced onion 4 sweet potatoes, diced 6-8 carrots, diced (the goal is to have equal parts carrots and sweet potatoes) 1 teaspoon Powdered Ginger 2 cloves of garlic, minced 2 teaspoons of olive oil 1/4 teaspoon Tarragon Salt and Pepper Sauté onions in Olive Oil until slightly golden, Add Sweet Potatoes and Carrots, Add Water until Carrots and Sweet Potatoes are submerged, Add Ginger, Add Salt and Pepper to your own taste, Bring to a boil and mix once Carrots and Potatoes are cooked, Add Tarragon.
