M y focus this past month has been on the faculty at Berkeley College. I’ve had the pleasure of observing many of our fashion classes across most of our campuses. It’s a reminder of the hard work and dedication that they have for Berkeley students. Learning from these industry professionals means that students learn practical skills in addition to what they read in a text book. Ultimately, each professor’s mission is to provide students with the best education they can, and prepare them for a variety of careers in the fashion industry, whether it be merchandising, buying, marketing or management. I salute each of our full-time and adjunct faculty for being a meaningful part of the learning process. My focus this past month has been on the faculty at Berkeley College. I’ve had the pleasure of observing many of our fashion classes across most of our campuses. It’s a reminder of the hard work and dedication that they have for Berkeley students. Learning from these industry professionals means

that students learn practical skills in addition to what they read in a text book. Ultimately, each professor’s mission is to provide students with the best education they can, and prepare them for a variety of careers in the fashion industry, whether it be merchandising, buying, marketing or management. I salute each of our full-time and adjunct faculty for being a meaningful part of the learning process.

William Filerino: “Many students and faculty participated this spring in the Lucky magazine forum on May 2nd. The panel consisted of all young, former fashion students who are trying to make it in the fashion business, in-cluding Yara Flinn, Misha Nonoo, Kaelen Haworth and Katie Ermilio. Check out their Facebook and Instagram pages for more information on them and their lines.”

Clefford DeLancer “Visiting the MET was a very interesting and wonderful experience. The knowledge found within each of Charles James masterpieces is simply breathtaking. It was an experience that I would recom-mend to every fashion follower. The detail found in every ball gown was impeccable. My favorite part of the en-tire museum was the fact that the transparency of his hard work and dedication could be seen through digital technology. I was truly impressed by the fact that each of his designs was built precisely and very artistic, as an architect would draw the blueprint to a New York building high rise.”

Alyssa Adomaitis: “Students had the opportunity to visit the Charles James ex-hibit at the MET in May. Their response says it all!”

Lauren Trimarco: “My favorite ball gown was the a-line clover dress with a lace overlay on the skirt, and a fitted sweet-heart bodice. I believe that even though his ball gowns were designed and worn so long ago, that they could still be worn today. Charles James was a truly talented designer and he created so many time-less and beautiful ball gowns.”

Myra Butensky: “On Thursday, May 29, our SAB 427 class visited the Brooks Brothers Tie Factory in Sunnyside , New York, where we observed all stages of production, inspection and packag-ing of men’s ties. While we enjoyed seeing a garment assembled from beginning to end, we especially loved the tie archive room where we saw what appeared to be an endless assortment of ties made and sold over the years. This was a great trip!”

Diane Maglio: “My student, Ileana Figueroa, participated in The College Group at the Met, a formal Gala for students in conjunction with the Charles James exhibition. She was glowing from the experience.”

Diane Maglio: “The SAB Fashion Forecasting students from Mode Art, Paris; AMD Germany; and EBC Hamburg went to the exhibition “Italian Furturists: Reconstructing the Uni-verse,” at the Guggenheim Museum. The exhibition covered the complexity of work with paintings, garments, furniture, and ceramics. We got a bonus with beautiful weather. Stu-dents were asked to give applications for this aesthetic in the 21st century. They submitted creative work from textile design to jewelry.”

My name is Jill Kolodzieski and I’m a third year transfer student at Berke-ley College. I am striving to obtain a degree In Fashion Marketing and Management. Overall, I have been satisfied with the quality of education within the Fashion program and have rediscovered a passion for the business aspect of the fashion industry.

Before transferring to Berkeley College, I lacked confidence and self-motivation. I didn’t believe I was college material. Through quality lectures, involved assignments and creative projects, Berkeley College has re-instilled the determination and enthusiasm necessary to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree.
