Day 1 Introduction to Unit/ Cows Introduction of unit plan with PowerPoint presentation Students will be introduced to farm animal of the day by watching a short film created on Windows Movie Maker by teacher. A 3 minute movie about cows. The Milk Makers by Gail Gibbons. Students will watch Reading Rainbow: The Milk Makers episode online.Reading Rainbow: The Milk Makers episode online. Journal Theme: students will color image of Cow/calf, and finish the sentence, My favorite thing about a cow is ______. Class will play Farm Animal Structure Interactive PowerPoint game on smartboard, constructed on Microsoft PowerPoint by teacher. Class will begin completing KWL chart, constructed on Microsoft Word, and projected on smartboard. Chart will be completed on Friday.KWL chart Day 2 - Chickens Students will be introduced to farm animal of the day by watching a short film created on Windows Movie Maker by teacher. A 3 minute movie about chickens. Journal Theme: Students will color image of Chicken/ chick, and finish the sentence, What I know about chickens is_____. Students will play Farm Phonics Activity online in computer lab.Farm Phonics Activity Students will construct Farm Animal Diagram using the Kidspiration Software in computer lab. They will identify type of animal, offspring, and how they help us in our daily lives, using images and naming words. Diagram will be graded with check list.Farm Animal Diagram check list Day 2- chickens cond Sing Farmer and the Dell song using online video. Students will act out song, teacher picks the farmer, and the students will pick the following character parts.online video Read The Little Red Hen by Alan Garner and Norman Messenger, to the class using the Elmo. Students will identify: parts of the book, title, the author, illustrator, main character, plot, and outcome. As a class, students will complete the Three Little Pigs Webquest using SmartboardThree Little Pigs Webquest for projection. Worksheet will be printed offWorksheet and completed. Day 3 Horses/ Farmers Students will be introduced to farm animal of the day and farmers by watching a short film created on Windows Movie Maker by teacher. A 3 minute movie about horses and a 3 minute movie on farmers/ farms. Journal Theme: Students will color images of horse/colt, and finish the sentence, If I had a horse I would _____. Paired with 3 rd grade reading buddies, students will complete Pig Webquest in computer lab. Pig Webquest Sing Old MacDonald Had a Farm using online video.online video Day 3 Horses/ Farmers cond Read Old MacDonald (Bunny Reads Back) by Rosemary Wells, on Elmo. Students will identify: parts of the book, title, the author, illustrator, main character, plot, and outcome. Math: Students will group and count by ones, fives, and tens using farm animal manipulatives. Day 4 Sheep/ Goats Students will be introduced to farm animal of the day by watching a short film created on Windows Movie Maker by teacher. A 6 minute movie about sheep/ goats. Journal Theme: Students will color image of a sheep/ lamb and goat/ kid, and finish the sentence, Sheep and goats are fun because _____. In computer lab, students will construct classroom farm mural with images they find on Clip Art Software. Each student will find image, put into Microsoft Word, type the name of image, and print it out. Students will then cut out images, and arrange them on farm mural. Math: Estimation: students will look at three identical cans with different amounts of corn kernels in it, and try to guess correct amount in the can. The same activity will be completed using three more cans with different outside appearances. They will then tell if it is easier to estimate a number if the container is the same or different? Why? Day 5 Review/Test/ Conclusion Journal Theme: Students will color image of barn and farmer (cover of book), and finish the sentence, The animals in my barn are a _____, _____, _____, _____, and _____. Review of the weeks content Farm animal test Students will construct a book about farm animals using the journal themes (picture and sentence) papers and farm animal picture diagram they made earlier in the week. Class will create graph of students favorite farm animal, using Smartboard and coordinating Smartboard Software.
