A MESSAGE FROM THE STEWARDSHIP BOARD
Every year farmers get to see a great miracle of God in the growth of their crops. The farmers may plant the seed, but God does the rest. The same is true for us as God's witness-es in the world. We are called upon to share the Word of God and to scatter the seed. We can leave the miracle of growth to the Holy Spirit, who gives us the promise that His
Word will not return to Him empty, but will accomplish the purpose for which it was sent.

How to Run and Not get Tired
“but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like
eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31 NRSV)
In my opinion, one of the better scenes in the movie “Forest Gump” is when the star, Tom Hanks, (Forest
Gump) was being chased by a group of thugs in an automobile. Forest is walking home from school, with his
classmate, a difficult task seeing he is wearing leg braces, when these ruffians come upon him. Forest and his
friend see them, and he takes off trying to run, but being encumbered by the leg braces. As the car bears
down on Forest, his friend yells out, “Run Forest Run!”
Off he goes gathering speed, and low and behold a miracle. The leg braces slowly begin to come off, and sud-
denly, Forest is running with a new burst of energy! Forest’s legs now unemcumbered, lets him easily maneu-
ver, gaining speed he quickly gets away. How often are your lives like Forest Gump? You get weighed down
with all sorts of problems, with sin. You forget who is on your side. You try so hard to solve all your problems!
You try to carry the weight of your losses. You feel you don’t know where to turn when you fall into Satan’s
traps. Soon your spiritual life is in tatters. Your prayer life suffers. James in chapter 4 writes:
1“Those conflicts and disputes among you, where do they come from? Do they not come from your
cravings that are at war within you? 2 You want something and do not have it; so you commit murder. And
you covet something and cannot obtain it; so you engage in disputes and conflicts. You do not have, because
you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, inn order to spend what you get on
your pleasures. 4 Adulterers! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore
whoever wishes to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”
Soon, so very soon, you’re like Forest Gump, trying to get through life, and having one heck of a time trying
to figure it all out!
The writer of Hebrews comes to your rescue, Run, he says, run …. Run! “Therefore, since we are surrounded
by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us
run with perseverance the race that is set before us,” (Hebrews 12:1)
Like Forest’s school chum, who yells, “Run Forest! Run!”; you too have a friend saying, run! But run to whom,
where? You Run to God, to His Word, and to His Sacraments. It is in His Word which calls you to repent and
ask Him for forgiveness; of which He bestows upon you freely! You run to His Altar and feed upon His life giv-
ing body and drink from His forgiving Blood.
You look upon the Baptismal Fount and like the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther says, “I am Baptized” knowing the
flood which flows from that fount, you were cleansed! Finally, from the lips of God’s under shepherds, a sin-
ner too proclaim, “In the stead and by the command of My Lord Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins. In the
Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holly Spirit. Amen!
Yes, “Run Forest! Run!” Hear the Word of the Lord, “but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their
strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not
faint.,” (Isaiah 40:31 NRSV)
In Jesus’ most Holy name do we all pray. Amen.

Next Women Bible Study
"Altogether Beautiful"
Women of all ages, married and single, are invited to join author Heidi Goehmann on an eight-week journey through the Song of Songs, to draw near to God and His Word and discover just how much the God of the universe considers His daugh-ters beautiful. We’ll watch a video each week and learn that God declares us beautiful—but more importantly He de-clares us holy and strong and worthy in Christ. This study can be done on your own or in our group study which will begin on Wed Oct. 3 at 9:00am. There is at least one person interested in an evening group Bible Study; so let me know if you should like to be included in this possible addi-tional group time.
Books are being ordered on August 28. If you have told Jeanie that you want a book, please be sure your name is on the list on the bulletin board.
LUTHERAN WOMEN IN MISSION
The LWML OHIO DISTRICT CONVENTION was held June 22-24, 2018. Debbie Wesche, Napoleon Zone President, carried the banner that was created by Ann Kahrs and LaDonna Witte in the Convention Pro-cessional. Donna Frank, Debbie Wesche, Dorothy Pollock and Ardyth Gearig attend-ed the Convention. Delegates voted to fund eight Mission Grants totaling $85,000.00. This pledged amount will be collected over the next two years. You can help the LWML, Ohio District reach this goal by giving your "Mites" toward these Mission Grants. If you would like to be in-volved with "Lutheran Women In Mis-sion", contact any of the women pictured above, Jeanie or Eunice, for more infor-mation.
MISSION OUTREACH
Our Mission Outreach for September is Genacross Lutheran Services, Napoleon. The staff and volunteers recognize the needs of God's people; especially the el-derly. In their commitment to the teaching of Christ, they feel called to enhance the physical and spiritual well-being of those they serve. Prayerfully consider contrib-uting to this worthy mission project. Enve-lopes are on the table in the Narthex.
