The many has been spent based on the budget plan and activities conducted during the quarter, payment of salaries, production of the radion programs, broadcasting fee for the last quarter , expenditure of workshop and focus group meeting and operation cost.

ü Radio Drama: under the project total 48 Drama recorded The different aspects of the family violence are featured in Drama, and raised social awareness on the number of issues related to the family violence: right of widows, rights of heritage, mutual rights of spouse based on Islamic principles, forced marriage, the benefits of mutual respect between the members of family for wellbeing a family, the conditions of marriage for

girls and boys, marriage portion and walwar, right for choosing the partner, right for education, early engagement of children, early marriage, giving daughter to settle debt, honor killing , relation and respect between the family members, recognition of faith and contribution of each members of the family towards well bing of the family (Male and Female) etc.
ü Radio Interviews: Under the project total 48 interveiw interviews with the
victim have been conducted with the total of 48 interviews from the start of project to date. The interviews with victims were also followed by the interviews with other experts: academic scholars, Islamic scholars, women activists, the cases of the family violence is one of the important part of the program, it contribute in deep understanding of the families on the consequences of the family violence .
ü Roundtable Discussions: Under the project total 48 Penal discussions have been recorded with total 48 round tables from the start of project to date. The following experts took part in the panel discussions: Safia Sediqi, (Ex MP , women rights activist), Ezatullah Akbari (Islamic scholar), Mawlay Tawhidi (Islamic scholar) Sharifa Zermati (former MP and women rights activist), Mawlay Rehan (Islamic scholar), These top religious scholars at the country level and women rights activists provided in deep discussion on the family violence form the sharia and Islamic prospective to be more acceptable to listeners and families
Programs broadcasting 1 July – 30 September ü Radio Drama: the total of 48dramas (24 Pashto and 24 Dari) had been
broadcasted during the reporting period (see the Attachment B for more details)
ü Radio Interview: the total of 48 radio interviews (24 Pashto, 24Dari) had been broadcasted during the reporting period (see the detailed broadcasting schedule for more details)
ü Roundtable Discussion: the total of 48 roundtable discussions (24 Pashto, 24 Dari) had been broadcasted during the reporting period (see the detailed broadcasting schedule for more details)
ü The programs (dramas, interviews, and panel discussions were aired according to the Project timeline in the specified times (drama: Mondays, 7.45AM, 2.05PM, interviews: Tuesdays 8.05 AM, 4.05 PM, panel discussions: Wednesdays 8.05AM, 4.05PM
Media Workshops Organizing ü 5 Round of 3 days media advocacy workshop has been organized in in
Parwan and Logar, Takhar, Parwan, Ningarhar, Kabul Province . with total 85 Participants from Local media organizations, civil society, provincial council, university and the provincial department of women affairs participated in the workshop.
ü The topics of the workshop were consisting of: 1. Building theoretical knowledge of the participants, through provision
of information in regards to the family violence, factors and root

causes and ways of tackling the family violence. Relevant information on Afghanistan, constitution, related lows, international instruments and Islamic values.
2. Skill on how to collection and analyse information to prepare media report, design media program on family violence, media advocacy for policy change, mainstreaming the family violence in the media reports and ways of collaboration between civil society and local media organizations and journalists.
3. Planning for the follow up action after the workshop by the participants, where they are divided on 4 groups, each group has identified potential issues related to the family violence, developed their plan for the follow up action.
Key Result of the Workshop: ü Enhanced knowledge and skills of the 85 participants on how to work on
tackling the family violence, preparation of reports, effective media programs and also advocacy and lobbying.
ü Improved linkages among the civil society activists and media professional for future collaboration on the issues of family violence other civic activities.
ü Developed Training follow up plans , where the participants have committed and planned activities to be implemented in follow up to the workshop and will report the result of their actions.
ü Based on the final evaluation of the workshops the participants have expressed their satisfaction both in terms of content and also methodology of the training, including its applicability on their daily work.
Stakeholder’s relation, PR and promotional activities:
ü For increasing the outreach of the program, cantact has been made with
provincial departments of women affairs in in all 34 provinces Kabul, to follow up on their engagement and also their participation in the training organized by BRD in the regions where workshops were held.
ü Weekly and biweekly meetings were initiated with the radio broadcasting
partners (Salam Watandar) for compiling the feedback received through the listeners from the radio stations. And also to get their feedback in regards to the quality of the programs in order to integrate feedback to be integrated in the program production to ensure the quality of the programs aligned with the context and culture and full file the expectations of the listeners.
ü Continues outreach and communication and visibility of the programs and
dissemination of Programs broadcasting information in to reach to wider listener has been commenced through ; distribution of information leaflet

(poster) during the workshops , focus group meetings . the information is also disseminated through our local radio partners in the provinces as well as by the provincial departments of women affairs in the province.
ü Coordination meeting area also conducted with the ministry of women affairs, provincial departments of women affairs, civil society networks for coordination of the program activities; radio broadcasting, coordination of training workshops and focus group meetings, selection of participants for the workshops and focus groups meetings.
Monitoring and Evaluation activities: ü During the implementation of the project BRD provided regular
monitoring of the programs broadcasting based on the broadcasting schedule by BRD journalist through 98.9 FM of Salam Watandar network in the office on daily basis.
ü BRD also initiative the cooperation plan agreed with the Ministry of Women Affairs, for monitoring the programs aired by the local radio stations by the provincial department of women affairs. The provincial departments of women affairs were consistently encouraged and engaged in monitoring of the program broadcasting. BRD provided regular with the department of provincial women affair through phone to receive their feedback in regards to the broadcasting and feedback of the listeners and also relevancy and interest of the program in the province.
ü BRD project officer performed weekly monitoring of the program in Salam Watandar Studio. Evaluation:
ü Under the project 12 rounds one-day focus group meetings have been conducted in Kabul, Ningarhar, Kunar, Kapisa, Parwan, Panjsher, Takhar, Logar, Wardak Province. the meetings participated by the representative of civil societies, listeners, religious scholars, teachers, media organizations, youths, and members of other professional societies such as women groups, universities, legal associations. The purpose of the meetings to evaluation the quality of the radio produced under the project, the major issues in regards to the family violence in the provinces which to be included in the program and also relevancy of the program with local costume and culture and potential impact of the programs . Their inputs are received through designed questionnaires. Inputs from the focus group was played key role in ensuring quality of the program, relevance with the existing issues of family violence encouraged and increased the listeners in regards to the program which is one of the key success increased potential impact on family violence.
ü The provided feedback from the listeners through direct phone calls to our
media monitor and our panelist are the key indicators of the success of the program, according to their feedback, the programs are listened with great interests in the rural areas, and one of the key factor of the interest is integrating the religious aspect of the issue related to the family violence in

all component of the program and also ensuring balance in focus on both male and female in respect to the family violence.
10. Please give examples of how the goals of the program were met. ü Goal 1: Increased social awareness of the prevalence and consequences of
family violence and the particular forms it can take in different communities
This goal has been addressed through all the 3 programs produced and aired through this project: radio dramas, interviews with victims and roundtable discussions. The radio dramas in Dari and Pashto addressed the problems of causes and consequences of family violence, as well as particular forms it can take in the communities and ways how address i. its also educated the equal role of man and women to tackle family violence. This issue has been discussed by the participants of the panel discussions, mainly Ms Sharifa Zurmaty (women activist and former MP), Safeia Sediqi former MP and Civil Society Activities , Mr Mawlay Rehan (Islamic Scholar) and Mr Mawlay Zaki (Islamic scholar), who indicated various types of family violence (physical, mental etc) as well as their consequences for the family, society etc. The interviews gave the listeners opportunity to hear about real consequences that family violence had on the lives of its victims and hear the expert’s opinion in addressing the problem from legal , social , cultural prospective . which provided families and individual with more options , resolving conflict and violence in their families. Which was the key element for reduction of the violence at the family level.
ü Goal 2: The provision of a platform for raising and discussing this issue in a locally relevant and culturally thoughtful and engaging manner contributing to a climate where the family violence can be more effectively addressed
All the BRD staff and their stakeholders are committed to raising the issue of family violence in locally relevant and culturally appropriate ways. More specifically, this issue has beed addressed through the series of actions: 1. The programs are recorded in two main languages of Afghanistan, Pashto and Dari and are broadcasted alternately each week in a given language. 2. The drama scripts are written by Afghan specialist who considered cultural appropriateness as a high priority. 3. During Focus group meetings in BRD staff had chances to discuss the programs and their relevance and quality with the radio listeners and the members of Civil Society. The listeners indicated that the programs are very relevant and culturally appropriate, at the same time giving BRD constructive feedback on what could be improved.
ü Goal 3: The inclusion of key members of local communities and governance in activities that provide a basis for discussion that can lead to constructive policy initiatives;
1. The participants of panel discussions are well known and respected experts who are considered by the society as an authority (Mawlay Hassan Haq Yar, Aztullah Akbry , Safia Sidqiqi , and Sharifa Zurmaty, Maulavi Raihan). This provides strong contribution to effectiveness of climate in which the family violence is addressed.
2. The majority of the of the participants of the events conducted were also a key members of the local communities, Civil Societies and religious scholars who provided constructive feedback and recommendations that can lead to policy initiatives.

ü Goal 4. Balanced inclusion of women and men as representatives of Civil Society and local government in the discussion that will lead to mutual agreement on the more underlying issues of violence: their drivers and factors contributing to it and how they can be mitigated.
Actions: 1. The panel discussions were gender balanced, as in each discussion one female and one male were participating 2. Focus group participation was also balanced with female members of Civil Society being present as well as male members.
3. Gender consideration in the workshop has been also considered, where both male and female journalists and CSOs members have provided opportunities to participate in the workshops.
Where special attention has been paid to keep the program focus equally both mew and women, in the drama seniors, panel discussion, the topics including in the dram script or panel discussion were mostly encouraging the mutual respect between the family members, recognition of the each individual family members within the whole family both male and female.
ü Goal 5. The building of skills among local journalism professionals that allows them to more effectively present the issue of family violence and enhances their capacity to engage in successful public service and advocacy
1. 5 round 3 days Media workshops have been organized, with total 85 Participants, from the Media Organizations, Members of Civil Society Organizations attended the workshop. Building theoretical knowledge of participants by introducing them to the family violence, types and its factors and how it can be tackled? Afghanistan constitution, Law on eradicating violence against women, international instruments and Islamic values. Skills on how to collect information to prepare report, media programs and reporting, design and conduct advocacy campaign, including realist advocacy strategies and process. Key result of the workshop were: a) Enhanced knowledge and skills of the 18 participants on how to work together for tackling the family violence, through preparation of reports, effective media programs and also advocacy and lobbying. Improved linkages among the civil society activists and media professional for future collaboration on the issues of family violence and also other civic activities. b) Development of training follow up plan, where the participants have committed and planed activities to be implemented follow up to the training, BRD will regulary communicate with the participants for their continues engagement in the awareness and advocacy for tackling family violence in the future . 2. The project increases greatly capacities of BRD staff, particularly those involved in the direct media activities (script writer, program editor, journalists), who are enhancing their professional practice and are able to address more effectively the issues related with family violence, such as convincing the shelter managers to conduct interviews in their premises, conduct the interviews with victims, provide the quality program editing etc.

11. Were any problems encountered? How were they were solved? ü During the reporting period, there were no major problems in the
implementation to be reported. All the activities are implemented smoothly.
12. Does the organization have plans for future activities? ü All the activities under the current project have been completed, based on
the agreed project timeline.
13. Recommendations
ü According to the feedback of participants of the focus group meetings, listeners and participants in the workshop , the project activities can play vital role in educating and awareness raising of the families , which will have real impact on reducing the violence at the family level , and recommended the project to be continued in the future , as well. Therefore we recommend that the project to funded for another year.
