• Expectations and Standards• How to Be Most Effective on Stage
Expectations and Standards• You are an Ambassador
• Dress—business attire only

Family Reunion: Presenters, Facilitators, and Panelists3
Expectations and Standards• Do not send anyone in your place—contact KWU if you
have a last minute emergency.
• Respect time—do not go over your allotted session.
• Arrive 20 minutes before your session, stay for a few minutes after to answer any follow up questions.
• Remind your audience to complete an evaluation. We’ve gone online this year—it is easy and fun to use!

How to Be Most Effective—All Roles• Know your content inside and out
• Don’t wing it—Practice! And practice timing
• Don’t talk about what you ‘plan to do,’ the audience is there to learn from your experience
• Focus on the practical—give ideas people can walk away with and implement
• Don’t exaggerate or lie
Family Reunion: Presenters, Facilitators, and Panelists5
How to Be Most Effective—All Roles• Use the microphones at all times—including
audience questions (for audio recording purposes).
• Allow time for questions and always repeat the question if an audience member asks a question with no microphone.
• Make it fun! Be inspirational! Make it practical!
• Show appreciation by thanking your audience for their time and attention. Be gracious!
Family Reunion: Presenters, Facilitators, and Panelists6
How to Be Most Effective—Facilitators
• Schedule a call ahead of time with your panelists.
• Review the questions from KWU.
• Identify who will answer what, and have panelists share their answers.
• Consult with the panelists and make any necessary edits to ensure the answers are concise, to the point and practical.
• Practice together.
Family Reunion: Presenters, Facilitators, and Panelists7
How to Be Most Effective—Facilitators
• Know your role – facilitators are chosen for their leadership and knowledge of a topic so they can ask great follow-up questions and hit important points. Be prepared to contribute 3 to 5 points if your panelists do not make them.
• Act as a moderator—keep panelists on topic, move the discussion along, avoid any one person dominating
Family Reunion: Presenters, Facilitators, and Panelists8
How to Be Most Effective—Facilitators
• Don’t let superficial answers lie. Know when to dig deep to uncover the real meat of the topic so your attendees get the maximum impact from the session.
• Don’t allow for debate. Facilitate sharing of viewpoints versus convincing others what’s right or wrong.
Family Reunion: Presenters, Facilitators, and Panelists9
How to Be Most Effective—Panelists• Think of your facilitator as the conductor, and you
as the orchestra—follow their signals and cues.
• Be generous to one another to allow for equal speaking time.
• Speak from the heart. A panel is effective because it provides different points of view. Share what you did, the impact it had, what you did right, and what you would do differently next time.
