Procedures:1) Review numbers and counting with the children. 2) Talk to the children about their phone numbers and what their families use their telephones for. 3) Pass out the telephone handout and write the children’s phone number on it (area code included). 4) Next have the children dip one finger in the finger paint and dial their phone number on the telephone as they say the numbers they are touching out loud. They may need a little help with this, if there are multiples of the same number, have them put that many prints on that one number. Just make sure all of the prints are all visible on that number so they know how many times they have to push it while dialing their telephone number. 5) Hang the telephones up to dry and pass out the number tracing page. Let the children trace all the numbers on that page for practice.

Guided Questions: How many telephones does your family have at home? What does your family use the telephone for? Are you allowed to play with a real telephone? What kind of telephone does your family use?

Follow-up Activity:

Let the children use the play phones to practice dialing their phone numbers. Let them pretend to dial other numbers too for example, a restaurant to order takeout food or the Doctor’s office to schedule an appointment.
