PRODUCTION NOTESTailor Preschool Worship to your kids and leaders:

• For an easy prep: Enlist a Worship Leader to show the music videos and lead the songs. Prepare the Connection Point Game and Bible Verse activity, and show the videos for the Bible Story and Connection Point Missions.

• Have an additional leader? Enlist that person to lead the Connection Point Game, Bible Verse activity, and missions. Then prepare and tell the Bible story for an interactive experience with your kids.

• Do you have musicians who would like to lead worship songs? Check out the lead sheets on the DVD-ROM or substitute your songs.

• Need easy ideas for decorating your stage area? See “Decorating Tips” in the How-To section on the DVD-ROM.

Bible Studies For Life: Preschool Worship enables kids toexperience an interactive large-group worship in a kid-friendly setting! The curriculum can be customized to fit the needs of your kids, leaders, and worship environment. Included are Bible stories, worship songs, videos, games, Bible verse activities, and more. There also are ideas for small group activities if you have a drop-off time before the session begins or a pick-up time as parents arrive at the end of the session. In the chart below is a breakdown of a suggested schedule. Adapt it to fit your time and space.

UNIT 1. THE AMAZING POWER OF JESUS

DECORATING TIPSBuild a thematic backdrop to create a fun and exciting worship experience for your kids.

Use three 4-foot-by-8-foot-by-2-inch insulation boards to create a simple sky backdrop. Paint each board with blue water-based paint.

Create pinwheels by using colorful vinyl placmats. To add interest, vary the colors and patterns. Cut the placemat into a square. Once it is square, cut from each corner towards the center stopping just before the center. Do not cut through the center. Fold each corner in towards the center. Fold them one at a time and stack them on top of each other in the center. Using a upholstery tack or small nail with a large head, firmly attach pinwheel to a 1-inch dowel rod. Leaving room between the nail and dowel rod allows the pinwheel to spin. To create a base for dowel rods to stand by drilling 1-inch holes in a 2-foot-by-4-inch board.

Cut clouds out of cardboard or half-inch insulation boards. Paint white with water-based paint. Attach to backdrop with T-pins or hook and loop strips.

Using a jigsaw, cut 2-inch insulation board to form trees and rolling hills. Paint green with a water-base paint.

SIMPLE IDEAS TO ENHANCE YOUR LEARNING SPACE• Purchase small pinwheels from your local discount store. Turn a large foam cup upside down and push

a pinwheel’s handle through the bottom of the cup. Line your stage area with the pinwheels.

• Create large pinwheels from poster board. (See instructions above. Use a paper brad to secure the corners instead of upholstery tacks.) Tape pinwheels to the wall.

• Cut poster board into large cloud shapes. Glue batting or cotton balls to cover both sides of the shape. Use fishing line to hang the clouds from the ceiling.

➡➡ People: Bible Study Leader

BIBLE STUDY LEADERI am so glad you are here today! I love to come to church and learn Bible stories about Jesus!

Today’s Bible story is exciting! It is about Jesus and His twelve disciples. The disciples were Jesus’

friends and helpers. Let’s count to the number twelve. (Lead kids to count.)

Jesus had twelve disciples. Very good counting! One of Jesus’ disciples was named Peter. Later, we will hear how Jesus helped Peter and kept him safe.

Our Bible verse might give you a clue about how Jesus kept Peter safe. Listen as I say the verse, and then we will say it together.

(Show Bible Verse slide—select preferred version.)

(Say the Bible verse and lead kids to repeat it after you.)

BIBLE VERSE (SELECT PREFERRED VERSION): • The people on the boat worshiped Jesus, God’s Son. Matthew 14:33 (Paraphrase)

• Then those in the boat worshiped him and said, “Truly you are the Son of God.” Matthew 14:33 (CSB)

• Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God. Matthew 14:33 (KJV)

• Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.” Matthew 14:33 (NKJV)

Jesus is powerful! Jesus can do things that no one else can do because He is God’s Son.

(Show Life Point Slide.)

Jesus can do things that I cannot do. Let’s say that together: “Jesus can do things that I cannot do.”

Let’s pray and thank God for Jesus. After we pray, let’s check in with Miss Lindy at the library.

God, thank You for Jesus. Thank You that Jesus is special, and He can do things that we cannot do. Thank You that we can learn about the things Jesus did. We love You. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

CONNECTION POINT GAME➡➡ Estimated time: 10 minutes

➡➡ Tech: Connection Point Game slide

➡➡ People: Connection Point Leader, 8 kids, 2 adult volunteers

➡➡ Props: 2 large, clear bowls; water; table; dishpan; 16 random objects (such as a plastic spoon, toy boat, pencil, cup, and so on)

GAME INSTRUCTIONS: • Fill both bowls with water. Place the bowls on a table.

• Place all the objects in a dishpan.

• Invite 4 boys and 4 girls to play. Form a boys’ team and a girls’ team.

• Guide each team to form a line behind a bowl.

• Hold up the dishpan so kids cannot see inside.

• Tell the first player on each team to reach into the dishpan and take out an object.

• Challenge each player to guess if the object he selected will sink or float.

• Guide each player to put his object in the water.

• Tell each player to remove the object from the water. If he guessed correctly, he may put the object on the table next to his team’s bowl. If a player guesses incorrectly, remove the item from play.

• Send the player to the back of his team’s line after he tests his object.

• Continue the game until each player takes 2 turns.

• Count the number of objects each team guessed correctly.

• Declare the team with the most correct guesses as the winner.

• Leader note: Assign an adult volunteer to coach each team. Adults should help players place the objects in the water and retrieve them.

CONNECTION POINT LEADER(Show Connection Point Game slide.)

Do you like to play in water? Some things float on top of the water, and other things sink. Let’s play a game to see what floats and what sinks! I needs four boys and four girls to play. (Choose eight kids to play. Form two teams. Guide each team to form a line behind a bowl.)

I have lots of objects in this dishpan. I will hold the pan up high so you can’t see inside. The first player on each team will reach in and pull out one item.

The players will guess if their objects will sink or float. Then they will put their objects into the bowls of water to watch what happens! If they guessed correctly, their teams get a point!

Does everyone understand how to play? (Answer any questions and play the game. Guide kids to help you count the number of objects next to each team’s bowl. Cheer for the winning team.)

Let’s sing another song. After we sing, we will hear a Bible story about a time when Jesus’ disciples were in a boat on the sea.

WORSHIP LEADERDo you remember how many disciples Jesus had? (Allow kids to respond.) Jesus had twelve disciples. Some of the disciples were fishermen. They rode in boats a lot!

WorshipLet’s pretend to ride in a boat. (Guide kids to respond to each of the following instructions.)

•Shout: “All aboard!” It’s time to go on a boat ride.

•Everyone, get inside the boat. (Pretend to step over into the boat.)

•Here we go! (Gently bend knees to bounce up and down along with the waves.)

That’s fun! Let’s stay in our boats as we sing!

(Show the music video.)

(Lead kids to sit as song ends.)

BIBLE STORY➡➡ Estimated time: 10 minutes

➡➡ Tech: Christ Focus, and Bible Story Time slides; Bible Story video (optional)

➡➡ People: Bible Story Leader

➡➡ Props: Bible; rubber duck; medium sized rock; large, clear bowl of water

Option 1: Show the Bible Story Time video and conclude with a short prayer.

God, thank You that Jesus can do things we cannot do. Please help us to remember what Peter and the other disciples learned—that Jesus is Your Son. We love You. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Option 2: Tell the following Bible story.

BIBLE STUDY LEADER(Show Bible Story slide.)

I think it’s fun to see what things float on top of the water, and what things sink to the bottom. Do you think the rubber duck will sink or float? (pause) Let’s find out! (Carefully place the duck in the water.) Wow! It floats! Let’s try the rock. It isn’t very big, do you think it will float, too? Let’s try! (Place the rock in the water and watch it sink.) No, the rock didn’t float. The rock sank to the bottom. That was fun!

Our water fun makes me think about a Bible story. Jesus had been teaching people all day. At the end of the day Jesus told His disciples to get in a boat

and sail to the other side of the sea. Jesus stayed behind. He sent the crowds home and went up on a mountain to pray.

After a long time the disciples’ boat was far from the land. The waves hit hard against the boat, and the wind was very strong.

Early in the morning, while it was still dark, the disciples saw something out on the water. A person was coming toward them, walking on top of the water! The disciples were afraid.

(Open Bible and read Matthew 14:27.) Immediately Jesus spoke to them. “Have courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

Peter called out to Jesus and said, “Jesus, if it is You, let me walk on the water to You.” Jesus told Peter to come to Him! Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus! As Peter walked, he felt the strong wind and became afraid. Peter began to sink! He shouted for Jesus to help him!

(Open Bible and read Matthew 14:31a.) Immediately Jesus reached out his hand, and caught hold of Peter.

Jesus held onto Peter so he would not sink. When Jesus and Peter got into the boat, something else amazing happened. The wind stopped blowing! The disciples were amazed! They worshiped Jesus and said, “You are the Son of God.”

(Show Christ Focus slide.)

Jesus is God’s Son. Jesus can do things that you and I cannot do. Jesus did miracles! Jesus walked on water, stopped a storm, made sick people well, and did many other miracles. Jesus could do those things because He is God’s Son.

That was an exciting Bible story! (Refer to the bowl of water.) Jesus didn’t sink to the bottom of the sea like the rock. Jesus walked on top of the water! Wow! Let’s pray and thank God for Jesus!

God, thank You that Jesus can do things we cannot do. Please help us to remember what Peter and the other disciples learned—that Jesus is Your Son. We love You. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

BIBLE STUDY LEADER(Show Real Life Connections slide.)

Today we learned that Jesus walked on water! Can you walk on water? (Allow kids to respond.) No, we can’t walk on water. Only Jesus can do that!

(Put the letters in order and tape them on a focal wall.) Do you remember what word these letters spell? (Allow for responses.) That’s right! These letters spell the word Jesus.

I will name an action. If it is something that only Jesus can do, point to Jesus’ name. If it is something that both you and Jesus can do, use one hand to point to Jesus’ name and the other hand to point to yourself. (Name the following actions. Correct children as needed.)

•Walk on water (Jesus)

•Splash in water (both)

•Make a blind man see (Jesus)

•Make a card for someone who is sick (both)

•Pray (both)

•Tell the weather what to do (Jesus)

•Help a friend who is hurt (both)

Jesus had been teaching the people. He helped them have food.

Jesus told His disciples to get in a boat and sail across the Sea of Galilee. Jesus went up on the mountain to pray.

The disciples worked hard to sail the boat. The wind blew against them and they had difficulty sailing against the waves.

Early in the morning, while it was still dark, the disciples saw something coming toward them. It was someone coming on top of the water! They were afraid.

“Do not be afraid,” Jesus said. “It is I.” Jesus was walking on top of the water!

Peter said, “If it is You, Jesus, let me walk to You on the water.”Jesus said, “Come!”Peter climbed out of the boat. He started walking on the water

toward Jesus. As Peter walked, he felt the strong wind and he was afraid. He began to sink in the water. “Jesus, save me!” Peter called.

Jesus reached out His hand and grabbed Peter. Peter and Jesus got into the boat. The wind stopped blowing.

The men worshiped Jesus. “You are really the Son of God,” they said.
