Faith Focus Term 3 Week 5 2021 James Heyne Good Thoughts Imagine if for one week, or even just one day, all our children heard and saw were positive and healthy messages. If they heard and saw only encouragement, affirmation, positive information, smiles, brightness and good news stories, would their outlook and demeanour be different? Would it be harder or easier for them to feel optimistic and positive? Would they be more inclined to kindness because they have been part of a positive environment? I think so and I don’t think we as adults are any different. We know though, that we can’t shelter our children, or ourselves of the realities of disappointment and problems that are part of our world. If we took the time to reflect on our moods during the day, I wonder how influenced they would have been by what we had seen and heard around us? If we have positive experiences I’m confident we feel more positive. God knows the world will always present us with hard times, but he encourages and guides us in how we can choose to be a positive influence in the world. In Proverbs we read ‘Pleasant words are like honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body’ . In Philippians we read ‘fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honourable.’ And he warns us of the opposite in Psalms Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace and pursue it’. We’re not puppets and we can choose what we fill our minds with and how we speak. A great starting point is to remember God’s words to us. He is always reminding us that His love, His grace, His forgiveness and His promise are always with us. Amongst all that happens each day, we can rest knowing we are always loved by God and nothing and no one can take that from us. That’s a foundation for each and every day. For I am convinced that neither death nor life ….. nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God. Romans 8:38

Good ThoughtsImagine if for one week, or even just one day, all our children heard and saw were positive and healthy messages.

In Proverbs we read ‘Pleasant words are like honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body’. In Philippians we read ‘fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honourable.’ And he warns us of the opposite in Psalms ‘Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit.

Romans 8:38

Principal PonderingsA Little SunshineIt is amazing what a difference the shift to more sunshine than rainy days creates. I’ve seen more smiles and energy the more the sun has shone. The weather can be a big influence on our moods.

While we don’t control the weather (I can’t even predict it 30 minutes before lunchtime most days) we can work to control our influence on others. We talk to and teach our students to share kind words and kind actions with others. This is more than just a cute phrase, it’s a goal we strive for, to have St Mark’s be a warm, welcoming and supportive community. Intentional kind words and kind actions help us look beyond our own interests and seek to be a positive influence on others. It brightens the day of others and more often than not, ours as well.

Staffing NewsMiss Liebelt will be taking some well-earned leave during Term 4. Mrs Lauren Scott will be joining our staff team, teaching 3L for the term.

I am taking leave for the last four weeks of this term. Ms Saracini will be acting Principal during my leave. Ms Barolo and Mrs Steven will continue to teach their classes during this time, but will provide leadership support with Ms Saracini. Mrs Steven (who usually works Monday to Wednesday) will work additional days, while Ms Barolo will have a different focus on her three non-classroom days each week.

We have also welcomed Mrs Fiona Harley to our staff as our part time Compliance Officer. She has an important role ensuring our systems and processes support us in providing the opportunities we want for our community, in a safe and supportive way.

Regretfully, Mrs Manning who recently began in our part time receptionist role, has advised that she is not able to continue in the role. The position is being readvertised and can be found at https://www.seek.com.au/job/53462489.

HatsWith more sunshine comes our reminder that hats are required from the 1st of September.

2022 EnrolmentsIt is now the time of the year when we are shaping plans for 2022. This includes beginning to plan structures and the school budget for 2022. It is a complex process and our enrolments are central to planning.

If your circumstances are changing and you may not be part of St Mark’s in 2022, I ask that you please contact me to advise of your possible change. We understand that sometimes relocating depends on other factors

but early notice to us of potential changes is useful for our planning.

If you know your child will not be returning to St Mark’s in 2022, please advise me in writing.

Drop Off and Pick Up ArrangementsThis week, you should have received an email confirming our drive through pick up procedures. Please note that children have also brought home a family name sheet to assist with this process, if you require additional sheets, please contact the front office.

We ask for your cooperation in the following areas:• Please do not arrive in the drive through waiting area before 3:15pm, early arrival and queuing is leading to congestion well before students are dismissed and able to be picked up;• Families with surnames beginning with A to K please arrive from 3:15pm;• Families with surnames beginning with L to Z please delay your arrival until 3:25pm (If you need to pick your child up before 3:25pm for other commitments, we understand you will need to arrive from 3:15pm);• Please display your family name sheet when in the queue; and• If you have extended family or friends assisting with drop off and pick up please make them aware of these arrangements.

LLL BankingJust a reminder for all LLL account holders to send in deposits and bank books each Tuesday.

Don’t Forget!Hats are to be worn in Spring.

Wednesday, 1st September is the first day hats are required for outdoor

School LifeSRC NewsA reminder to families of students in Foundation to Year 4, that our SRC are hosting a Colourful Drawing Competition for the Junior Primary Concert ‘Hats Off!’. ‘Hats Off!’ is about a lost hat and the changing seasons - students might draw different coloured hats, animals wearing hats or just one colourful zany hat! The winning entry will be selected by the SRC and will form the cover of the 2021 concert program.

All very colourful drawings, need to be in the Front Office by Friday, August 27th. The winner will be announced during Week 7 assembly, and will receive a lolly bag prize.

A reminder of SRC Clubs for Semester 2 are…Monday – Dodgeball Club

Tuesday – Drawing, Comic & Reading ClubsWednesday – Soccer Club

Thursday – Debating & Playdough ClubFriday – Dance Club

At this week’s assembly, the SRC also announced the value of ‘Hope’ will be the focus for Term 3. Our School Captains explained that hope usually means wanting something to happen, wanting a new toy or even wanting to play a particular game with friends. Emma and Campbell then went onto share that at St Mark’s ‘hope’ means a little more than all of this…at St Mark’s ‘hope’ means that we face the future with confidence, knowing that God is looking out for us.

To encourage students to think about ‘hope’, the SRC have invited students to fill in a hopeful heart, then place it on the St Mark’s wall of hope at the student entrance.

A reminder that Chapel Offerings have been earmarked for the Smith Family. The Smith Family is a children’s charity helping disadvantaged Australian children get the most out of their education, so they can create a better future for themselves. The SRC again reminded students that every coin makes a difference!

We thank our SRC for all they do for St Mark’s!

School Life4SOW NewsIn Media Arts, students have been exploring different things artists do, to achieve a purpose. They were given the task of taking a photo to create a certain effect or to evoke an emotion in the viewer. Here is some of our photography:

Saphy and Adele: We took a photo of Saphy throwing a netball in the air. After we took the photo, we cropped Saphy out of the picture so all you can see is a ball in mid-air. We did this so that

people would look at the photo and be amazed that the ball looks like it is floating in the air.

Sam and Nate: In our picture we tried to create the effect that Sam was walking up the wall. We took the photo because we wanted the viewer to feel amazed when they looked at it and wonder how

we did it.

Mya and Grace: We were trying to create the emotion of happiness. We did this by having Mya kick her foot behind her and throw bark chips in the air like they were confetti. At the end, we added a filter to the photo to make it look even better.

Mason and Alexander: In our photo we tried to make the viewer feel wowed, excited and amazed. We did this by taking a basketball action shot.

Seesaw News - Learning JournalHave you seen your child’s Seesaw Learning

Journal yet?Following the return of the Seesaw Family guidelines reply slip, you will have received your Family Seesaw login/QR code enabling you to login to your Child’s Seesaw learning journal. Please contact the front office if you need a new form, have misplaced your Family QR code or require some assistance. Your children can’t wait to share their learning with you!

Attention Cooks! Some of you may be aware of our Care Network, run by Moz, that provides meals for families that are in need of some help.

Sometimes this is for great reasons, like a new birth in the family, sometimes for more challenging reasons like health or financial difficulties. Perhaps you have been on the receiving end of a homemade cake or a lasagna during a difficult time, and know what a blessing it can be.

We are running very low on meals in our freezer and would like to ask for anyone who is willing, to make something to restock it.

You just need to pick up a container from the front office and cook your specialty! We do ask you write the ingredients down on the sticker provided so we can match meals to our family dietary requirements.

Thank you for contributing to our community.

3LG NewsDesign and Technology isn’t just about computers, students in 3LG have gone ‘old school’ designing and making various things using French knitting and finger knitting.

Are you nifty with a sewing needle? If you are, we need you!

If you have sewing skills, please email Ms Lyall at [email protected]. Ms Lyall will have packs with all necessary pieces ready for collection on Thursday, August 26th. All finished costume pieces will need to be back at school by Thursday, September 2nd. Thank you!
