Dear Parents/ Carers,
LEARNING FROM HOME, LEARNING FROM SCHOOL
Congratulations to all the Fairvale children who have commenced learning from home. I have spent the last
few days reading all of the posts on seesaw—everyone is doing their best. Keep posting your work! It is
important to see that you are learning during the day. This plan can be a little stressful for families to adjust
to, my advice is simple—children like routine and we have planned the learning grid in such way that you
should see children engaged and ready to learn each morning. Besides learning, being active is just as
important. Allow your child to play in the backyard, go for a walk down the street, set up your own little gym
in the house—there’s lots of options
WORKING FROM HOME, WORKING FROM SCHOOL
This week our Fairvale staff commences working from home and working from school. All teachers attend school
for professional learning, supervise children at school and contact children/ families. On the other days at home,
staff may be involved in on-line courses, making resources, attending online meetings and contacting children/
families. I am really pleased to announce that the staff have worked immensely hard to make this work. We are
now supporting the directive from the government by allowing staff to work from home and in isolation. Please
note due to being at risk of infection, some staff are working from home daily—this is a directive from the
Government and the Department.
PARACHUTING AROUND THE SCHOOL WITH MR PITT
Due to the current changes, I am now parachuting around the school talking to teachers about what they have
been up to since we changed to learning and working from home and from school. This week I spoke to our Years
3 –6 EAL/D and New Arrivals teachers. EAL/D stands for English as an Additional Language and/or Dialect. The
teachers work very closely with the children ensuring they are given ample opportunities to learn to speak, write
and read in English. Check out my report in this edition of the newsletter.

Mrs Fedele
I have been doing my best to make sure my IEP groups still have
access to our regular teaching and learning activities. I made phone
calls to all students to check in and see how they were doing as well
as to make sure they knew how to access our IEP work online
through Google Classroom. I enjoyed making a video of myself
reading our focus text aloud for the students and uploading this to
our Google Classroom. I look forward to viewing their wonderful
work.
Miss Giannaula
This week I have been assigning activities to SeeSaw for
the Year 4 students that I withdraw. I have uploaded
some fun maths game videos that you can play at
home with your family and a deck of cards. I look
forward to seeing you upload some photos or even
videos of you playing these games at home.
Mrs Sheppard
This week in IEP we are learning at home. Our
text of the week is titled 'A forest' . We can read
the text on paper and online and there is also a
video of the text being read. Our learning goal is
to identify the nouns in the text.
Mr Derband
On Monday Mr Derband read ‘Tiddalick the frog’.
Students were asked to select one Australian animal to
research and present the information on google slides. He
is excited to see what everyone presents!
Mr Derband and other EAL/D teachers have also been
busily preparing various activities for our new arrival
students to work on whilst they are learning from home.

1 April 2020 Term 1, Week 10
Hi Everyone!
We are all missing you at school. It is very strange not having our 650 students at school. We
have been working so hard to ensure all of our students have access to some work each day.
Some students have been completing work online using Seesaw and other students have been
completing work using pen and paper. Please keep in contact with your classroom teacher. Class
teachers have been calling families throughout the week. We are here to help as best we can.
Last week Miss Fletcher and I visited a few families to deliver some much needed work. It was
great to see them. Take care. Mrs Karam

Aboriginal Dot Painting
We just loved getting our fingers all messy when
we did some Aboriginal dot painting with our
fingers! The children created sunsets, animals
and other creations showing their understanding
of the Aboriginal Culture.
Musical Chairs
As we are being very careful to follow Social
Distancing rules, the children suggested playing
musical chairs with these tough new rules!
Although we did get close at some points of the
game, we were careful to follow these rules and
also had so much fun doing so!

1 April 2020 Term 1, Week 10
On Tuesday 24th March, Fairvale Public School recognised the multiculturalism that we share within our
community by celebrating Harmony Day. Students and teachers wore orange clothes and ate delicious
oranges to acknowledge this special day and show their support for cultural diversity and inclusiveness.
Every class worked on their own unique Harmony Day activity. Some classes created special artworks and
some wrote about the importance of Harmony Day and what it means to them.
