STAFF NEWS

We farewell Mrs Borg at the end of Term 3 as she awaits the birth of her first baby. What an exciting

time for mum, dad and the family. We wish Mrs Borg all the very best. 2B will be taught by Miss

Cassady, one of our preferred temporary teachers at Fairvale PS

AROUND THE SCHOOL WITH MR PITT

K Thiele: On Monday I visited K Thiele during a writing lesson. Firstly, Mr Tran modelled a sentence

about his weekend, including pictures to help remind him about the weekend. Then the children did the

same. I was lucky to work with a small group of children who talked to me about their weekend. I also

liked their drawings—it helped us stay on track. There are many independent writers in KT. I had a great

time in KT.

4 Park: I visited 4 Park last Friday during a numeracy session. The children were independently completing a range of

activities related to measurement—angles. Groups got to work with Miss Pracy on the floor before they searched the

room for angles. This was fun as the children needed to take a pic of an angle before measuring it. Other groups played

around the world using their protractor, an angle sorting worksheet and angle challenge task cards. My favourite activity

was around the world because it assisted children to really understand the various angle sides. It took me 7 goes to go

around the world! I enjoyed my visit to 4P.

Check out some of the photos from my visit in this week’s edition of the newsletter.

GILLAWARNA FESTIVAL

Last week the annual Gillawarna Festival took place at Bankstown Sports Club. The festival

brings together schools from the Bankstown and Fairfield area. This year, our choir took

part, along with 3 dance groups. I would like to congratulate the children for their mighty

effort at both the matinee and evening shows last Wednesday. It was also great to see

many children attending the matinee as audience members. Festivals like these would not

take place if it wasn't for the dedication and energy from our teachers—Mrs Olivera, Miss

Mahendra, Mrs Nasso, Ms Berry, Mrs Benjamin and Mrs Dale. I would also like to thank the

parents/ carers for allowing your children to take part in such a festival. No doubt you were

all proud of the children just like I was. Great effort everyone!

STAGE 3 CAMP

Our Stage 3 campers have had great weather at the Great Aussie Bush Camp—Kincumber.

Ms Batar has kept me updated with various activities taking place throughout the day. I have also

been placing these updates on our school app—another great reason to download the app!

I encourage children to attend these sorts of camps as they teach independence, resilience,

getting along and being organised—something that we all need! I would also like to thank the

teachers for attending the camp this year—Mr Ly, Mrs Wulf and Ms Batar. I am certain the

children (and teachers) will be fast asleep tonight!

Attendance Matters

“When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic

prospects and chances for graduating.” – Attendance Works

A FORTNIGHT OF FUN AND LEARNING

The past two weeks have certainly been busy for the students, teachers and families at Fairvale PS. We had our Walk-a-Thon,

which saw our students walking as many laps as they could around the school and engaging in fun sporting activities such as ball

games, skipping, hooping and using the parachute. The students also enjoyed a rest stop with water and oranges to keep up their

energy levels. The students had a great time. A big thank you to Ms Wulf and Mr Ly for their coordination of this event. Thank

you also to all the families and friends who sponsored a student.

Science Day was also celebrated by the Fairvale community. The students were invited to build a model for display in the hall.

They also participated in a science show and a range of fun activities across the day. The students were involved in lots of

activities from observing chemical reaction to making slime. This shows the students that Science is fun and may even encourage

them to be scientists when they grow up! A big thank you to Miss Pracy and Miss Mahendra for their coordination of this event!

Our senior choir and 3 dance groups participated in the Gillawarna Festival last week. All the students were amazing. The choir

sang beautifully and the dance groups performed with such skill and enthusiasm. Well done to all the students and teachers

involved. A lot of time and effort from the students, teachers and parents goes into these events—Thank you!

We also celebrated SASS week, last week. This week recognises the hard work of our School Admin Manager, School Admin

Officer, School Learning Support officers, Community Liaison Officer and General Assistant. Without their hard work and

dedication our school would not run as smoothly as it does! I hope they had a lovely week. The staff celebrated with a huge

morning tea and our SAS Staff received little gifts through the week.

I would like to thank all the students, teachers and community for a fabulous term. I hope that everyone has a lovely holiday and

takes time to relax and have fun with loved ones. Stay safe and I will see you all next term.

Happy Holidays!

Miss Cameron
