This slideshow is intended for students in my classroom. It's purpose is to help students understand copyright and fair use, as well as show them how to cite their sources when creating a presentation.

2. Copyright
Copyright is the protection given to authors of original works (art, music, writing, etc).
Authors of original works have the right to:
Make copies of their work
Distribute copies of their work
Perform their work publically
Display work publically
Make derivative works (or making changes to the first work to make a new original work)

3. Fair Use
Fair Use is the right other people have to use copyrighted works under special circumstances.
Reasons to use a work under Fair Use are:
criticism (writing a review)
news reporting
Teaching
research (like what you are doing for your artifact)

4. How can I use copyrighted work to make my work more interesting?
Give credit where credit is due!

5. Hey!How did you do that?
Find an work that you think will add to the impact of your artifact.
Try using Flickr, NASA, or the Smithsonian Institution
Copy and Paste the work into your artifact.
If you cant copy and paste, you may need to save the work to your computer, then insert it into your artifact.
To cite the source you can do one of two things:
Create a small textbox under the image to put the authors name and/or website you got the work from.
Create a Works Cited page.
