Jean Augustine Chair in Education in the New Urban Environment

The Jean Augustine Chair in Education in the New Urban Environment is an endowed Chair established by the HonourableJean Augustine, the first black woman elected to the Parliament of Canada.

The Chair has been providing an intellectual centre for studies and learning activities relating to gender parity, community engagement and the practice of democracy, and cultural diversity; as well, she is making a vital contribution to the development of educationcurriculum and practice and the education of teachers and educational leaders.

Professor Nombuso Dlamini, the inaugural Jean Augustine Chair is enriching a multitude of activities at York University and in the

community through her teaching, research and academic expertise by developing and enhancing partnerships between academic institutions and community organizations .
