With today’s increasing need to reduce construction costs and shorten project schedules, Graycor Industrial Constructors provides superior fabrication and modularization solutions that support your project’s needs while allowing control of delivery sequence, schedule, cost and quality.

Our location in Portage, Indiana—just two miles from the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor—enables us to better serve industrial clients in the Midwest and areas throughout the U.S.

Situated on 9 acres, our 44,000-square-foot, mixed-use operations center houses a 12,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art fabrication shop dedicated to our clients’ fabrication and assembly needs. In addition, we have four acres set aside as lay-down, staging and equipment areas.

As a union-affiliated and ISO 9001-registered contractor, Graycor Industrial provides pipe spools, support steel and skid-mounted modular assemblies in addition to various other fabrication services required by our customers.

Housing two bays, two high-capacity overhead cranes (5 and 10 tons) and eight workstations, our Fab Shop also features the latest technology in equipment:

• 6 Lincoln SST welding machines• Tilt positioners for pipe rotation• 1000-amp sub-arc machine• Various cutting devices• Shop ventilation system with localized fume

Graycor Industrial welders are qualified by the American Welding Society and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ welding codes and standards.

To facilitate the construction of NIPSCO’s wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) project, Graycor Industrial’s team utilized its Portage facility to perform the following fabrication services:

• Modularization of 15,000 feet of piping onto three-tier utility racks before being moved to the job site

• Mobile transport of 50-ton sections of fully fabricated and insulated ductwork to the crane hook for just-in-time erection

• Installation of nearly 50,000 lineal feet of piping consisting of: − Schedule 80 carbon steel (rubber-lined, fiberglass-reinforced) − Underground high-density polyethylene − Stainless steel − Copper

• Fabrication, shipment, modularization and installation of more than 1,550 tons of flue gas ductwork

Client ArcelorMittalProject No. 1 Coke Battery Rebuild - Collector MainLocation Burns Harbor, Indiana

Graycor Industrial’s team removed four collector mains and replaced with new components using its fabrication facility. More than 12,000 lineal feet of pipe (ranging in 1/2-inch to 12-inch diameters) were used, and over 1,000 X-ray welds were conducted. The advantages of using the Fab Shop included:

• Close proximity—Graycor was the only contractor able to fabricate and transport the 90-foot-long completed modules to the client’s nearby facility

• Climate control—Because the project occurred during fall and winter months, work was performed in an indoor, controlled environment without exposure to adverse weather conditions

• Cost and schedule savings—Graycor’s team was able to detect issues with owner-supplied materials for the collector main) and offer cost-effective repairs while the items remained in the shop
