Ultimately, collaboration works best when all parties understand their roles, set clear expectations for the project, the students, and one another.

It is a learned process. The collaboration gets easier and easier the more you do it; the experiences are richer for your students. Thus, reflecting after each session is critical; allows for growth and builds communication, trust, and learning for the students.

Communication Can be formal and informal; yet should be progressive and consistent (emails, texts, brief sit down discussions)

What advice would you give to teachers who are not currently collaborating with their school librarian?

“You need to have enough time (at least 30

minutes) to sit down, lay out the materials,

talk about the project, and really figure out

the goals and outcomes of the collaboration.

Otherwise the results can be discouraging

for both the teacher and the librarian, which

can dampen enthusiasm for future efforts. “

•The Project: Digital Storytelling using Animoto

Digital Storytelling: Digital Storytelling is the practice of using computer-based tools to tell stories.

Objective: To Demonstrate understanding of plot themes through the Play, A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen

Apply for an Educator Account:-50 student sub accounts attached to your email address

-Must be a Gmail (Google mail account). I’d suggest a new Gmail acct for the Animoto setup

Confirmation Number is important: -Save it! -Create a Master password list!

Create a Log for each username and password you setup

-Use when assigning accounts to students for projects

Determine how to distribute the 50 student accounts to your students-You can assign more than one student to each account; remind students to only edit/alter their content and warn them that they may see more than one video when they log in.

• Create a Wikipage or Google Class page if you don’t have a webpage.

• Students can present their videos to the class

using an

• Internet Connection, LCD Projector, and projector screen directly from the Animoto website.

• Videos can be shared with parents and administrators via email, along with the assignment and rubric.

• Videos can also be shared via Animoto’s mobile App!
