CROSSWALK UPDATES

Page 7: F ALL MSC-IPAL Web Ex Presentation January 19, 2012

ELEMENTARY CODES

●A decision has been made to allow elementary codes to be used in the MSC-IPAL report

●School divisions may report elementary classes by general homeroom assignment codes or SCED codes, or broken down by subject area SCED codes (there are no assignment codes for specific elementary courses)

●This change has been made to help divisions adjust to the reporting requirements of MSC-IPAL

READING CODES

●English Language Arts encompasses reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing and should not be separated.

●With full implementation of the 2010 English

Standards next year and the increased rigor, it will become even more important not to separate classes into reading and language arts.

READING CODES

●Teaching literature/reading in one class and writing in another sends the message that reading is not an integral part of writing and writing is not a part of reading.

●The reading SCED codes for grades 6-8 should be used for courses for reading enrichment or remediation, not for Language Arts 6-8; those courses should use the regular SCED codes of 5134, 5135, 5136.

SOCIAL STUDIES CODES

●During past years, school divisions have used several different assignment codes for two courses:  World History and Geography to 1500 A.D. and World History and Geography: 1500 A.D. to the Present.

●To simplify the assignment codes list, a decision was made to use one assignment code only for each of the two courses.

●Those assignment codes are: 2215 for World History and Geography to 1500 A.D. 2216 for World History and Geography:  1500 A.D. to the Present

●School division personnel should use these two assignment codes when recoding world history and geography courses.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Page 12: F ALL MSC-IPAL Web Ex Presentation January 19, 2012

ADMINISTRATOR/PPSP REPORTING

How do I report administrators and pupil personnel service providers? Do they need a B Record?● Yes, any individual included in the MSC (whether it be in the D Record or the G Record) needs to have a B Record

●The B Record gives us the demographic information on the individual; the other records give us the individual’s assignment within the school

Page 13: F ALL MSC-IPAL Web Ex Presentation January 19, 2012

REGIONAL PROGRAMS

Do the regional programs have the proper template to report to us?

●Yes, the Fall MSC-IPAL regional program template has been emailed out to all Governor’s schools and is available on the MSC website if your regional centers ask

●The major change to this template is the addition of the B Record
