International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering EYGEC 2015 Durham UK Invitation to the 24 th European Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference in Durham, UK 11-12 September, 2015 University College, Durham University, Durham Invitation The British Geotechnical Association (BGA), the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) and the Organising Committee at Durham University have the pleasure to invite you to the 24 th European Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference in Durham, UK on 11-12 September 2015 (Friday & Saturday). Conference Venue The Conference will be held at Durham University, one of the oldest universities in the United Kingdom. The University is an integral part of Durham City, a treasure house of culture and heritage, and compact enough to explore easily on foot. Durham’s 12 th Century Cathedral and Castle are a World Heritage Site. You can easily travel to Durham by air, rail, road and sea. Durham is served by two international airports (Newcastle & Durham Tees Valley) and is linked to other major cities in the United Kingdom by high speed train services. The city centre is only 2 miles away from the A1 Motorway linking London to Edinburgh. Scheduled ferry services link the River Tyne at Newcastle to ports in Scandinavia, the Netherlands and Germany.

  • Participants Each European Member Society will be asked to select two representatives to attend the Conference. Ideally, they should be 35 years of age, or less, at the time of the meeting. The European Member Societies are responsible for selecting participants and conducting peer review of the papers.

    Conference Format Papers covering a wide spectrum of geotechnical engineering will be accepted. There will be two invited lectures delivered by keynote speakers covering different aspects of geotechnical engineering. Ample time will be allocated within the programme for formal and informal discussions. The official language of the conference will be English.

    Important Dates Invitation to Member Societies, call for papers: 10 February 2015 Deadline for Abstracts: 20 March 2015 Abstract acceptance, specification of paper format: 3 April 2015 Deadline for draft papers: 29 May 2015 Final programme: 19 June 2015 Deadline for final papers: 3 July 2015 Conference meeting: 11-12 September 2015

    Conference fee The conference fee will be 300 and it includes:

    Delegate pack and conference proceedings (on USB stick)

    En-suite single accommodation for three nights from 10-12 September (including breakfasts Friday to Sunday)

    Welcome reception on Thursday 10 September 2015

    Coffee breaks and lunches 11 & 12 September 2015

    Conference banquet Friday 11 September 2015

    Dinner on Saturday 12 September
