Resource Efficient Scotland

This scheme is a Scottish Government funded programme delivered by Zero Waste Scotland. It works to engage Scottish business, the public sector including local authorities and housing associations and third sector organisations on the benefits of using resources more efficiently and to help them implement resource efficiency actions within their organisation. There are three main elements to the programme: 1. Advice and support service:

(Tel: 0808 808 2268) this service provides free advice, support, training and access to funding to help organisations implement resource efficiency measures.

2. Sector Programmes: These programmes provide a strategic sector focused approach with activities tailored around specific resource-use ‘hotspots’

3. Innovation: This area of work involves the development of new resource efficient products and technologies, business models, working practices and de-centralised renewable energy infrastructure – providing solutions for the sector support and advice services.

Support for local authorities is provided through one of the sector programmes. For more information contact Warren McIntyre, Programme Area Manager - Public Sector Resource Efficient Scotland, 01786 433930 or email [email protected] Link: http://www.resourceefficientscotland.com/

Coronavirus Financial Hardship Fund

HMUK has launched the Coronavirus Financial Hardship Fund specifically to alleviate some of the immediate

financial pressures that many professional musicians may currently be facing.

HMUK recognises that the impact of the coronavirus on musicians’ lives and careers is unprecedented, and

the charity’s normal person-centred approach of health and welfare support needs to be boosted in this

exceptional period to give as many musicians as possible immediate financial relief.

HMUK encourages musicians only to apply if they are indeed suffering significant financial hardship to enable

the charity to provide help quickly to those who need it the most.

The Fund has a total budget of £5 million. Musicians can apply for a one-off payment of £500 to alleviate some

of their immediate money worries about their mounting household expenses.

The Fund is open to anyone who satisfies HMUK’s general criteria for support:

A professional working musician (performer, composer/creator or directly involved in the production of music, or in

work for which the main qualification is a high level of musical training).

Self-employed or currently unemployed.

In need of financial help.

Applications should be submitted at the applicants’ earliest opportunity.

Those who are successful will be notified by email within 10 working days of the submission of their application. The funds

will be transferred directly to applicants’ bank accounts.

HMUK is unable to take telephone calls or correspond about individual applications due to the high level of demand for its

services. Those who have any issues in filling out the application form should email [email protected]

Because of the demand anticipated, HMUK cannot at this stage commit to making more than one payment to any

individual from this temporary financial hardship fund as a result of the coronavirus.

AWARDS The Scottish Charity Awards This scheme will now take place in September - with the deadline for applying extended until the end of April A statement from organisers the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) said: “Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we realise that many organisations have had to refocus their efforts in responding to the current situation and to supporting others. With that in mind we have decided to extend the deadline for entries for this year’s awards to 5pm on 30 April 2020. “The awards ceremony that was due to take place in June has now been postponed to Friday 25 September 2020. “We’ll be keeping you up-to-date with any further changes and developments over the coming weeks.” The awards celebrate the amazing work that people within charities and community groups do every day, all over the country, to help those in need and raise awareness of important causes. In 2019, 44 finalists were shortlisted, nine won awards and an additional four received special commendations for their work. This year’s awards take place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on Friday, 25 September. There are eight Scottish Charity Award categories - Charity of the Year, Charity Champion, Cracking Campaign, Pioneering Project, Celebrating Communities, Terrific Trustee and Demonstrating Digital – which are decided by a judging panel, and a special People’s Choice Award which is decided by the public and last year received a record-breaking 34,810 votes.
