(except holidays) from 2-6:45 PM
And on each First Friday from 7:30- 8:30PM

Our Lady of Fatima Devotion
The 1st Saturday of each month will be
devoted to Our Lady of Fatima. The devotion
will include 8am Mass, Novena to Fatima / the
Rosary, Confessions after Mass and fellowship
in Carew Hall at 9am.
Our Lady came to Fatima with a message from God to eve-
ry man, woman, and child of our century. Our Lady of Fat-
ima promised that the whole world would be in peace, and
that many souls would go to Heaven if Her requests were
listened to and obeyed. Please join us in this devotion.
St Joseph’s Parish Monthly Recollection
On the First Friday of every month, at 7:30 PM, we hold our Monthly Parish Recollection. This is an hour of pray-
er, of recollection before our Lord present in the Blessed Sacrament - whose Sacred Heart is the source of immense
charity and generous love. The foundation of this prayer is God’s presence in our souls as Creator, Preserver, and
Author of Graces (“in Him we live, and move, and are” Acts 17:28). God is our Father, and our Friend and is our
sweet Guest. We must acknowledge the realization of this great truth: God is in each of us, our soul is His Temple.
This prayer of recollection includes the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction, Praying of the
Psalms, Silence, Gospel Reading and a Talk /Reflection on the following topics: The Cardinal Virtues of pru-
dence, justice, temperance and fortitude. The Theological Virtues of faith, hope and love. The gifts of the Holy
Spirit; wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord.
Every soul, hungry & thirsty for God, is invited to this holy hour every First Friday of the month to
adore, venerate & contemplate the Sacred Heart of Jesus, & to have a quiet dialogue with God.

OUR LITURGY
Habakkuk displays much hopelessness today. Yet we find that those who have faith will be rewarded. In our psalm response we are told not to harden our hearts as we hear the voice of the Lord. As we listen to the Lord, our faith is increased. Jesus said that even a small amount of faith can do so much.

From the Pastor’s Desk “If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong of a clashing cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not love, I am nothing.” “Love is patient, love is kind…Love never fails.” “So faith, hope, and love remain these three; but the greatest of these is love.” This quote from St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians (chapter 13) gives us great insight into what Jesus is telling us this week in Luke’s Gospel Reading. The Apostles ask Jesus to increase their faith, and notice the answer Jesus gives them, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed you would say to the mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea; and it will obey you.’” Pay attention now to what Jesus is saying about faith! If you have just a small amount of TRUE FAITH, you can do anything. So in a sense Jesus is saying to do the things that I do, you already have enough faith. But it must be true faith, a pure faith, and a faith that comes from the heart. The good thing about this true faith is that all of us already have it. The problem is most of us are not totally in touch with this gift of faith we have received. So like the Apostles, we ask Jesus to increase our faith because we think we do not have enough. So stop asking for more faith, rather ask Jesus to help us encountered the faith we already have been given. Also let us ask Him to help us not to allow set backs to weaken our faith as we are told today by the Prophet Habakkuk.
So how do we encounter the faith we already have? We must try to lead lives that will keep us more in touch with Christ. We can achieve this through prayer and spending quality time with Jesus. We can achieve this by joining in the celebration of the Eucharist and receiving the other Sacraments of the Church, and by reading and praying with the Scriptures, and the lives of the Saints. We must also keep our hearts open to the Holy Spirit. Doing these things can help us to get pass the challenges that life throws at us, and help us to avoid set backs or at least to quickly come back from them.
There is of course one more thing that we must do and St. Paul tells us this in his letter quoted above. We must have love! Love is what helps us to put our faith into practice, love helps us to give birth to a truer, purer faith, and love helps us to be better disciples. This is showed to us in the second part of today’s Gospel, when Jesus puts before the Apostles the example of the master and the servant. In what appears to be a harsh example for us, Jesus ends with the words, “When you have done all you have
been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we are obliged to do.’” So what does this rather harsh reply have to do with Love? Well on its own it really does not have anything to do with it, but let us consider what TRUE LOVE is all about, and how we should act out of this love. Christ uses the metaphor of the servant to remind us that we are God’s servants and that we can never repay God or approach His level. Yet, unworthy servants that we are, God still calls us to join Him in His eternal plan for our salvation. When we do our part, we must not expect great [additional] rewards; we should act purely out of love. I do what I do out of love for God, the One who loved us first. When we act out of love like this, it is easier to as stated above, to put our faith in action and to be in touch with that true faith. So let’s look out because there will be a great deal of flying mulberry tress making their way to the sea.
This Sunday is Respect Life Sunday we should all take some time out this day (and everyday) to pray for the end of abortion and the taking of all innocent human life. We must remember that the threats to life also come from euthanasia, malnutrition, inadequate health care, ethnic cleansing, war, and unfortunately a lack of caring on the part of so many people. All life is precious as all of us are made in the image and likeness of God.
As you know, November 1st is the Feast of All Saints Day and November 2nd is the Feast of All Souls. Since November 2nd, this year is a Saturday we will move our Annual Mass of Remembrance to Sunday Afternoon November 3rd, at 3PM. At that, Mass we will pray for all those who we commend to Almighty God, especially remembering all those who had their Funeral Mass or Service celebrated here at St. Joseph’s since last All Souls Day. All are invited. And to have your loved ones remember at all of the Masses on All Souls Day and for the month of November, please use the envelopes in your packets or those that can be found on the window ledges in the Church.
God bless you always

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!
MINISTRY OF CONSOLATION
This Ministry is made up of parishioners who volunteer
their time in assisting families of the recently deceased. Members of the ministry meet with families at the
rectory prior to the funeral mass. They help the families choose hymns and scriptural readings from a prepared list. Ministers also prepare a short biography of the deceased so that the priest can personalize his homily. Ministers then attend the funeral Mass, which is
scheduled Monday through Saturday mornings. No experience is necessary and training will be provided. If you are interested, please call the rectory at 631-588-8456 and the Ministry Coordinator will get back to you.

St Joseph’s Parishioners:
We need your help!
We are only $5,000 short of our goal of $105,600.
The difference has a big impact on the Parish Rebate. As of now we will be getting approximate-
ly $15,000 but if we get to the goal, we should receive $21,000! That extra money can really
help us maintain the programs and services here at St Joseph’s. As your Pastor, I am asking you
to try to help us reach the goal. The Catholic Ministries Appeal is so vital to so many programs
and it gives each one of us the opportunity to help our neighbor in so many ways. Though we
don’t get to see exactly where the money goes, we do know that every dollar is going toward
building the Kingdom of God right here on Long Island. Don’t you want to do your part? Don’t
you want to be a part of something big that will have a true and lasting impact on other peoples
lives? Who can forget the devastation caused by the hurricane around this time last year. It re-
minds us how vulnerable we are to such a life changing event. The people of St. Joseph’s have
always amazed me by their faith and generosity. I know that when asked, you always rise to the
occasion. I am confident that you will once again, help us reach our goal. Look for the special
collection envelope in your weekly envelope packet. Additional envelopes will be available for
the collection on October 27th. Thank you for all you do for our beautiful Parish. Fr. Mike
