As we age, how many of us have stood in front of the mir-ror and used our fingers to lift our face just a bit for a reminderof the way we used to look? Maybe you’ve thought to yourselfthat it would be nice to have that look permanently, but surgeryjust isn’t for you. Fortunately, there is a new product on themarket right now that lifts the face by treating age-related vol-ume loss without a surgical procedure.

Just weeks ago, the FDA approved Juvederm Voluma(Voluma for short) as the first filler to claim it can correct age-related volume loss in cheeks of adults older than 21. It has beenin use throughout Europe and Canada for several years and itsapproval in the U.S. is big news, especially considering one ofthe most appealing aspects of the filler is its ability to last up to24 months without a refill.

Dr. Steven Davis offers revolutionary procedures that will bringexciting results in 2014.

  • “It’s the hottest thing right now,” says Dr.Steven Davis of Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, which has locations in Cherry Hill, Atlantic Cityand Philadelphia. “This product eliminates theneed to inject fillers into creases and wrinkles, which can sometimes give patients a puffylook. When the product is used properly, itcreates a lifting effect on the face.”

Dr. Davis is a board-certified plastic sur-geon and a Fellow in both The American Col-lege of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeonsand the American Academy of CosmeticSurgery. He is also the chief of plastic surgeryat Kennedy Health System in Cherry Hill, Strat-ford and Washington Township, and servesas a clinical assistant professor in the de-partment of surgery at Rowan-SOM andPCOM.

Recognized as a Top Physician by SouthJersey Magazine, Dr. Davis is one of severalphysicians who were selected by Allergan, themanufacturer of Voluma, to attend educa-tional and training sessions in Canada for theproduct. “The goal was to put together agroup of professionals who would bring it tothe masses and help train fellow doctors,” saysDr. Davis.

He has had the opportunity to use Volumaand Dr. Davis says the before and after resultsare incredible. “Voluma is injected into thecheek area, and you’d be amazed at the wayit improves the look of the overall face, in-cluding the eyes, mouth, nasal labial folds andlaugh lines without injecting it directly intothose areas,” he says.

Besides the fact that the procedure is pain-less, Dr. Davis says the fact that the results areimmediate is especially noteworthy. “Whatyou see upon application is what you get,” hesays. “Some might be prone to over injectwith other treatments, but this is an imme-diate, true-to-form result with minimalswelling.” He adds the results are subtle, leav-ing a more refreshed look.

“People will be asking what you’ve beendoing because it looks so natural, and that’ssomething I always keep in mind for my pa-tients, to offer the healthiest and safest optionsout there,” Dr. Davis says.

As with Voluma, Dr. Davis stays on the cut-ting-edge of cosmetic surgery, bringing the lat-est innovations in his field not only to patientsin the Delaware Valley, but throughout theUnited States and across the globe. After ap-pearing on The Dr. Oz Show, he says manynew patients traveled to see him in Cherry Hill.“We are very comfortable treating those

from other states and even countries, andhave secured hotel accommodations for thepatient and their travel companion,” he says.

One recent trend in body contouringhelps those who want to get rid of that last lit-tle bit of fat that no amount of exercising anddieting can.

“For certain people, liposuction would bean option to remove those pockets of fataround the love handles, thighs or abs, butsome people don’t want surgery,” says Dr.Davis. “We’ve started to introduce somethingcalled CoolSculpting, which is a non-invasive,non-surgical method of contouring the body.It essentially freezes the fat cells under the skinuntil they are eliminated.”

Dr. Davis says CoolSculpting requires aprecise approach in order to achieve the ul-timate results. “Even though this is a non-sur-gical method, there are many intricacies in-volved, and we can look at it from a surgeon’sperspective and capitalize on the under-standing we have of the technology to impacta patient’s results,” he says.

Naturally shaped “gummy bear” gelbreast implants are another exciting optionrevolutionizing breast augmentation, Dr.Davis says. “As opposed to saline-filled im-plants, these are filled with a silicone gel thatfeels soft and looks incredibly natural,” hesays. Dr. Davis sees these implants,CoolSculpting and Voluma as the most in-de-mand treatments going into 2014.

His knowledge and expertise of thesetrends is one of the reasons Dr. Davis is reg-ularly consulted by local and national mediato help educate their audiences on the prosand cons of certain methods. Dr. Davis hasbeen featured on The Doctors, Dr. Oz, InsideEdition, CNN, Good Morning America, Fox29’s Ask the Expert, and various radio outlets

including The Howard Stern Show. He alsohosts a radio program on Sirius-XM—Physi-cians Roundtable—where he interviews ex-perts from various fields of medicine.

“I think the media look to me becausethey know I will give them the straightscoop,” says Dr. Davis. “I’m going to be hon-est with them, the same way I’m honest with

my patients. Ultimately I’m trying to do thebest for them, and I wouldn’t do anything Iwouldn’t recommend for my own family. When a new product comes on the market,I make sure it’s as safe as it can be beforebringing it into my practice, and I’d want thepublic to know what to be aware of.”

If cosmetic surgery is something you’vealways wanted, but weren’t sure about, Dr.Davis says he makes listening to his clients apriority. “During the initial consultation, I wantto know why they are here and what’s both-ering them,” he says. “There is likely one thingthat bothers them when they look in the mir-ror. Maybe their lips were their favorite feature, but now they aren’t as youthful or viva-cious.” An artistic eye coupled with the ex-pertise and scientific knowledge transformsDavis’ patients into the person they want tosee in the mirror.

Whether the best solution is surgery orfinding ways to avoid it, Dr. Davis says, “Thebottom line is addressing how they seethemselves, and helping them gain confidenceand feel good again.” n
