This event is designed for families with children ages 3–11 and provides ideas

for a one-hour event based on the theme Jesus Brings S’more Joy. It’s perfect

for . . .

• back-to-school or backpack blessing events.

• fall festivals.

• Halloween alternative events.

• trunk-or-treat events.

• midweek Bible clubs.

• Sunday school classes on the 5th Sunday of the month.

The event includes ideas for Bible time, snacks, crafts, and games. As you

choose activities, take into account the size of your group, the children’s ages

and interests, their background knowledge and skill levels, and the time

available to you.

May God bless you as you share the good news of Jesus—news that always

brings s’more joy to his children!

Jesus Brings S’more JoyThe joy of the LORD is your strength.

Nehemiah 8:10

PreparationFirst, decide whether you want to go all out—with a family campfi re—or if your

situation calls for an indoor-only event. If you decide to “go big,” check with local

authorities for permissions and restrictions. Secure a permit, if needed. Consider

inviting a fi re-prevention offi cer to help you choose the best location for your

bonfi re and ask this expert about safety precautions and preparations.

Next, think about creative ways to decorate your space to evoke a camp-like look

and feel. Gather tents, lanterns, camp cooking utensils, artifi cial trees, sleeping

bags, and other outdoorsy items. Use these to create several camping scenes

throughout your event area. Drape large bedsheets over a rope to form a walk-

through “tent” at the entrance to your event. String mini lights on the ceilings (or

in the trees) to evoke an evening, outdoorsy feel. Play woodland sound eff ects to

enhance the camping theme. Enter the search term “camping-themed decorations”

on the Pinterest website to fi nd a variety of additional decorating ideas.

Make your event as elaborate—or as simple—as you like. The ideas that follow

and the Jesus Brings S’more Joy items available from CTA are designed to intrigue

the children who attend, introduce the Savior to those who don’t know him, and

encourage faith in the hearts of those who already believe.

As Children Arrive Position group leaders throughout your welcome area and urge them to greet

families warmly as they arrive. Gather families into groups, six to eight children per

group. Assign one or two adult leaders to stay with each group throughout the

event. Be sure to use the name tag template found at the end of this event planner.

Plan to copy the template onto a variety of diff erent colors of paper. This will create

color-coded groups (“red group,” “yellow group,” and so on). Color-coded name

tags can help event workers quickly identify where wandering children belong.

As you wait for everyone to arrive, pique the attendees’ interest by using one or

more of the options below.

Page 4: Expanding the Impact of Your Gifts of Encouragement...Next, think about creative ways to decorate your space to evoke a camp-like look and feel. Gather tents, lanterns, camp cooking

Option 1

Pantomime camping activities. Let the children guess what you are doing. Invite

children and parents to act out the activities, too. Try these:

• Setting up the tent

• Starting a campfi re

• Roasting a marshmallow

• Hiking

• Catching fi refl ies

• Canoeing

• Picking fl owers

• Crossing a stream

• Getting into a sleeping bag

• Fishing

Option 2

Teach the following song to the families. The song’s repetition makes it easy to

sing!

(Sing to the melody of “If You’re Happy and You Know It.”)

Written by Cherie Werner

Dear Jesus, bring me s’more of your joy! (clap, clap)

Dear Jesus, bring me s’more of your joy! (clap, clap)

Dear Jesus, bring me s’more; dear Jesus, give me s’more.

Dear Jesus, bring me s’more of your joy! (clap, clap)

Dear Jesus, bring me s’more of your love! (pat leg, pat leg)

Dear Jesus, bring me s’more of your love! (pat leg, pat leg)

Dear Jesus, bring me s’more; dear Jesus, give me s’more.

Dear Jesus, bring me s’more of your love! (pat leg, pat leg)

Dear Jesus, bring me s’more of your peace! (stomp, stomp)

Dear Jesus, bring me s’more of your peace! (stomp, stomp)

Dear Jesus, bring me s’more; dear Jesus, give me s’more.

Dear Jesus, bring me s’more of your peace! (stomp, stomp)

Page 5: Expanding the Impact of Your Gifts of Encouragement...Next, think about creative ways to decorate your space to evoke a camp-like look and feel. Gather tents, lanterns, camp cooking

Option 3

Tell some camp-themed riddles like these:

• What does a bear call a camper inside a sleeping bag? (A burrito.)

• What’s the best way to start a fi re with two sticks? (Make sure one is a match.)

• What do you get when you cross a brook and a stream? (Wet feet.)

• Where can you fi nd the best information about the forest? (At a branch of the

library.)

• Why don’t elephants bring backpacks to camp? (They keep everything in their

trunks.)

• When can a frog jump higher than a tent? (Always! A tent can’t jump.)

• If you have fi ve tents in one hand and four sleeping bags in the other, what do

you have? (Big hands.)

After everyone arrives, it’s time to begin the small-group activities. Get everyone’s

attention and explain that the groups will be moving from one activity to the next.

Let them know that you will give a signal (ringing a bell, sounding a whistle, or

playing “traveling music”) every fi fteen minutes to indicate that it’s time to rotate.

Distribute a Jesus Brings S’more Joy Goodie Bag (Item #SMJ19TS12) or Drawstring

Backpack (Item #SMJ19TB) to each child. Encourage children to put their crafts and

other event mementos inside.

Bible Time Visit the Resource & Idea Center at www.CTAinc.com/Resources to download CTA’s

Jesus Brings S’more Joy Ministry Message. Ask the families to sit in a circle as you

speak. With this message, you’ll help children (and adults, too!) learn that only

Jesus can bring real and lasting joy.

Following the Ministry Message, plan to use one or more of the optional ideas

suggested here. As you do so, continue to emphasize the love Jesus has for each

one of us, and how he protects and encourages us through his powerful love.

Because of his great love for us, Jesus took all our sins to the cross. He died for

our sins and then rose again on Easter! We’re incredibly joyful when we think

of his love for us. Jesus forgives all our sins, and we will one day joyfully live

with Jesus in heaven.

Page 6: Expanding the Impact of Your Gifts of Encouragement...Next, think about creative ways to decorate your space to evoke a camp-like look and feel. Gather tents, lanterns, camp cooking

6

Option 1

Use the Jesus Brings S’more Joy Bible Verse Memory Game (Item #SMJ19MGM)

to help children memorize the Bible verse: “The joy of the LORD is your

strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). Each time a child rolls the cube, he or she prints the

corresponding word(s) on the game sheet. The fi rst player to build the verse and

say it aloud wins! Play continues until everyone has built the Bible verse and recited

it. Give all players a memory game as a prize.

Option 2

Make copies of CTA’s Jesus Brings S’more Joy activity placemat from the Resource &

Idea Center at www.CTAinc.com/Resources. Gather crayons and colored pencils for

children to use to complete the activities. Suggest students decorate the blank side

of the placemat by drawing a campfi re scene, if time permits.

Option 3

Suggest that families or student groups work together to complete a page or two

in the Jesus Brings S’more Joy Activity Book (Item #SMJ19AB).

Snack TimeIn choosing your snacks, please be conscious of children with food allergies.

Outdoor S’mores What You’ll Need

• Outdoor fi re (closely supervised by several responsible adults)

• Roasting sticks, one for each person

• Graham crackers, one sheet for each person

• Large marshmallows, one for each person

• Chocolate bars, one for every two people

• Hand-cleaning wet wipes

What You’ll Do

• Give each child a marshmallow and a roasting stick. Help young children roast their

marshmallows over the fi re, while keeping a safe distance away from the fl ames.

• When the marshmallow is roasted, show students how to layer one graham

cracker square, the toasted marshmallow, half of a chocolate candy bar, and

second cracker to make a s’more. (Have adults on hand to help the youngest

participants.)

• Off er s’mores ingredients to the adults, too.

• Use the wet wipes to help children clean their hands and faces after eating.

Page 7: Expanding the Impact of Your Gifts of Encouragement...Next, think about creative ways to decorate your space to evoke a camp-like look and feel. Gather tents, lanterns, camp cooking

7

Serve with water. Be sure to check out CTA’s customizable plastic tumbler in the

Jesus Brings S’more Joy theme (Item #260307158). Add your church’s information to

the cup and it becomes another event memento for children to take home.

Indoor S’moresWhat You’ll Need

• Large marshmallows, one for each person

• Graham crackers, one sheet for each person

• Cake-pop sticks, one for each person

• Quart-size zip-top plastic bags, one for each person

• Chocolate syrup

• Rolling pin(s)

• Paper plates

• Hand-cleaning wet wipes

What You’ll Do

• Give each child a paper plate, a zip-top bag, and a graham cracker square.

Demonstrate how to place the cracker into the bag and zip the bag closed. Then,

let students use their hands or a rolling pin to crush the graham cracker into very

fi ne pieces.

• Give every child a marshmallow and a cake-pop stick. Show children how to poke

the stick into their marshmallows.

• Help children dip the marshmallow into a bowl of chocolate syrup. Then

immediately put the chocolate-covered marshmallow into the bag of crushed

crackers and roll it around. The crackers will stick to the chocolate syrup for a

faux s’more.

• Off er the snack to the parents, too.

• Use wet wipes for easy cleanup.

Page 8: Expanding the Impact of Your Gifts of Encouragement...Next, think about creative ways to decorate your space to evoke a camp-like look and feel. Gather tents, lanterns, camp cooking

Trail Mix What You’ll Need

• Small pretzels

• Chocolate chips

• Dried fruit (raisins, dried cherries, banana chips, and so on)

• Sunfl ower seeds

• Rice squares, wheat squares, or corn squares cereal

• Quart-size zip-top plastic bags, one for each child

• Paper bowls (optional)

• Plastic spoons (optional)

What You’ll Do

• Place a spoonful of each ingredient into a zip-top bag.

• Shake to mix thoroughly.

• Give one bag to each child.

Or

1. Place each ingredient in a paper bowl. Put a plastic spoon in each bowl.

2. Encourage attendees to make a personalized trail mix. Each person can hold a

plastic bag and pour in a spoonful of each ingredient.

3. Help the children zip their bags shut. Then, shake to mix ingredients.

Dirt Cups What You’ll Need

For 10 servings

• 1 (3.9 oz.) package of instant chocolate pudding mix

• 2 cups cold milk

Page 9: Expanding the Impact of Your Gifts of Encouragement...Next, think about creative ways to decorate your space to evoke a camp-like look and feel. Gather tents, lanterns, camp cooking

9

What You’ll Do

1. Whisk together the milk and instant pudding for two minutes, until pudding is

completely dissolved.

2. Let the pudding stand a few minutes to thicken.

3. Stir in the thawed whipped topping and 1/2 cup of crushed cookies.

4. Spoon into cups.

5. Sprinkle remaining crushed cookies on top of the pudding mixture.

6. Top each treat with a few gummy worms.

7. Chill before serving.

Craft OptionsS’more PuppetWhat You’ll Need

One Jesus Brings S’more Joy Foam Activity Kit for each child (Item #SMJ19AK)

What You’ll Do

Follow the directions printed on the activity package. As the children work, remind

them that knowing Jesus can help us when we feel weak or sad, lonely or hurt.

When troubles come, Jesus reminds us, “I love you! You belong to me!” The all-

powerful Jesus loves us—each one of us. That makes us happy, not afraid! Joy in

Jesus makes us strong!

Encourage older children and parents to role-play with their puppets. One puppet

can be sad and the other puppet can provide comfort with the joy of Jesus.

Suggest that children place the s’more puppet where they can see it often, possibly

on a bedroom nightstand or kitchen table. Each time they see the puppet, it can

remind them of the lasting love and powerful strength that only Jesus brings.

Be sure to mark completed projects with the child’s name and place projects into

the Jesus Brings S’more Joy Goodie Bag (Item #SMJ19TS12) or Drawstring Backpack

(Item #SMJ19TB).

Page 10: Expanding the Impact of Your Gifts of Encouragement...Next, think about creative ways to decorate your space to evoke a camp-like look and feel. Gather tents, lanterns, camp cooking

10

Butterfly FeederWhat You’ll Need

• Plastic bottle with lid, one for each child

• Hammer and nail, or small drill

• Flowers (real or artifi cial)

• Sturdy rubber bands, several for each child

• Large cotton balls, one for each child

• String

• Toothpicks

• Butterfl y food (1/4 cup sugar dissolved in 1 cup boiling water), enough to fi ll each

bottle

• Permanent markers (adult use only!)

What You’ll Do

Before the event begins, make the butterfl y food. Also, gather enough plastic

bottles so that each child can make one butterfl y feeder. Use a hammer and nail to

make a small hole in the lid of each bottle. Or, ask a carpenter to drill the holes.

At the event, begin by using permanent marker to label each project with the

child’s name. Tell each child to place one rubber band around the center of the

bottle. Let older children or adults securely knot two strings around the rubber

band—one string on either side of the bottle. They should take those two strings

and tie them together at the bottom of the bottle. This will create a loop and allow

the feeder to hang lid side down.

Let children place three more rubber bands around the bottle. Then, slip fl ower

stems through these rubber bands. The bands will keep the fl owers in place.

Brightly colored fl owers—even artifi cial ones—will attract butterfl ies!

Next, tell children to poke a cotton ball through the hole in the lid, pushing from

the inside of the lid to the outside. This will serve as a “wick” through which the

butterfl y will feed. If necessary, use a toothpick to push the cotton ball partway

through the hole.

As families work, remind them that Jesus takes care of everything in our

world—even butterfl ies! Our God is amazing, and the Bible has even more

good news: Jesus loves and cares for us—his children—much more than all of

his other creations. Butterfl ies don’t worry. We need not worry either! Jesus has

made you a special promise: He will always love and take care of you! Always!

No matter what, Jesus brings us joy! S’more and s’more and s’more joy!

Page 11: Expanding the Impact of Your Gifts of Encouragement...Next, think about creative ways to decorate your space to evoke a camp-like look and feel. Gather tents, lanterns, camp cooking

11

Assist families in fi lling their bottles with the butterfl y food. Then, let the children

screw on the lids stuff ed with cotton balls. Store upright. Place the butterfl y feeders

in a safe place so that families can retrieve them as they leave the event.

Wind SockWhat You’ll Need

• Construction paper in a variety of colors

• Jesus Brings S’more Joy theme art design (see pages at the end of this event

outline)

• Tape or stapler

• Hole punch

• Adult and child-safe scissors

• String

• Various ribbons or crepe paper

• Crayons, markers, stickers, washi tape, and other crafting decorations

What You’ll Do

Before the event, prepare the construction paper by printing the Jesus Brings

S’more Joy design onto each piece.

Place supplies on a “supplies” table—a short distance away from the “work” table.

This will give students better access to supplies, and will also allow more space for

constructing at the “work” table.

As children arrive, help them choose a piece of paper to decorate. Let the children

and families use any of the supplies to decorate one side of the paper as desired.

(Caution them not to cover the Jesus Brings S’more Joy design.)

When the children are fi nished decorating, roll the paper into a cylinder with the

decorated side facing out. Tape or staple into place. Using the paper punch, make

two holes at the top for hanging. Cut two strings 6–8 inches long and tie each

string end to one of the two holes for hanging.

Next, punch three or more holes along the bottom of the wind sock. Students

can tie ribbons to these holes. (Be ready to assist little crafters with tying.)

Alternatively, children can tape or staple lengths of crepe paper to the bottom

of the wind catcher.

As students work, talk about times when children may feel worried, sad, or

frightened. How can Jesus help? Jesus gives us strength and joy because he

loves us so very much—no matter what! Jesus brings s’more joy—always!

Page 12: Expanding the Impact of Your Gifts of Encouragement...Next, think about creative ways to decorate your space to evoke a camp-like look and feel. Gather tents, lanterns, camp cooking

12

Bird Feeder What You’ll Need

• Pinecone, one for each child

• Gallon-size zip-top bag, one for each child

• Paper plates, one for each child

• Suet bird food

• Plastic knives

• Birdseed

• Twine or thin wire

• Wax paper

• Hand-cleaning wet wipes

What You’ll Do

Start by tying a loop of twine or thin wire to the top of each child’s pinecone

so that the bird feeder can be hung in a tree. Show the families how to use the

knife to spread suet all over the pinecone. (Help little crafters, as needed.) Then,

instruct them to pour the birdseed onto a paper plate and roll the pinecone in

the birdseed. Wrap each bird feeder in wax paper and place it inside a plastic bag

labeled with its owner’s name.

As students work to make their bird feeder, talk about Matthew 6:26. Birds have

what they need because Jesus provides it. That’s pretty amazing, considering how

many, many birds live in our world. But this verse goes on to say that we—Jesus’

children—are much more valuable to him than the birds! We can be sure that Jesus

will always love us, forgive us, and bring us s’more and s’more joy!

Suggest that children use the Jesus Brings S’more Joy Goodie Bag (Item

#SMJ19TS12) or Drawstring Backpack (Item #SMJ19TB) to keep track of their crafts

and other mementos during the event.

Page 13: Expanding the Impact of Your Gifts of Encouragement...Next, think about creative ways to decorate your space to evoke a camp-like look and feel. Gather tents, lanterns, camp cooking

13

Joyful NoisemakerWhat You’ll Need

• Craft sticks (large size), two for each child

• Cardstock (precut into to match the craft stick dimensions)

• Rubber bands, two for each child

• Toothpicks, two for each child

• Scissors (adult use only!)

• Colored pencils

What You’ll Do

Before the event, make sure the craft sticks do not have any rough or splintered

edges. If needed, gently sand until smooth. Also, cut the cardstock into the same

shape and size as the craft sticks. Each child will need one piece of cardstock.

Show students how to sandwich the cardstock between two craft sticks. Secure

in place by twisting a rubber band near each end of the sticks. Then, push two

toothpicks between the craft sticks—one at each end, near the rubber bands.

Ask adults to use scissors to trim any toothpicks that are sticking out. Encourage

children to use colored pencils to decorate the sticks.

Engage students in discussion as they work. Can noise be joyful? When? The Bible

encourages us to make joyful noises to the Lord! (See Psalm 100.) Our noise is loud

and long and fi lled with joy because Jesus is our Savior! He lived, died, and rose

from the dead—all to save us from our sins. He did it because he loves us so very

much! Nothing can change his love for us. Nothing! Our loving and powerful Savior

Jesus is with us always—to love, to guide, to save. We can celebrate all of that by

making joyful noise!

To play the joyful noisemaker, blow through the craft sticks like you’re playing a

harmonica. You can make diff erent sounds by squeezing the sticks together with

varying force.

Suggest that children use the Jesus Brings S’more Joy Goodie Bag (Item

#SMJ19TS12) or Drawstring Backpack (Item #SMJ19TB) to keep track of their

crafts and other mementos during the event.

Page 14: Expanding the Impact of Your Gifts of Encouragement...Next, think about creative ways to decorate your space to evoke a camp-like look and feel. Gather tents, lanterns, camp cooking

14

GamesChoose the game(s) below that will work best in your setting and are age-

appropriate for your children. Before each game, explain the rules. Also, remind

the children that Jesus came to save us. He died on the cross and rose from the

dead. Now we have forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life. Jesus brings

s’more joy!

Toss It!What You’ll Need

• Jesus Brings S’more Joy Flying Plastic Disc (Item #SMJ19FD)

• Hula-Hoop ring

What You’ll Do

This game can be played inside or outside. Designate a start line by using an

existing mark on the fl oor, placing tape on the fl oor, or putting a stick on the

ground. Then place a Hula-Hoop ring “target” some distance away. Let children, in

turn, stand behind the start line and attempt to toss the disc into the ring target.

After everyone has had a try, talk about the activity. We don’t always hit the mark,

do we? And it’s not just when we’re playing disc toss. Even though we try really,

really hard, we don’t always live the way Jesus wants us to live. We sometimes do

the wrong thing—we sin. Other times, we should help others but we don’t. We

fail to do what God says is best—that’s sin, too. The good news—the best news of

all—is that Jesus did everything perfectly. For me! For you! For all of us! Jesus loved

each one of us so much that he took our sins—all of the wrong things we do, all of

the times we mess up—Jesus took all of that sin to the cross. There, he died for our

sins. Now we can be full of joy because we are forgiven! What’s more, Jesus didn’t

stay dead. He came alive again! Jesus brings us s’more and s’more joy each day as

he helps us live for him!

Try the game again. This time allow children to move closer to the target in

order to be successful.

Page 15: Expanding the Impact of Your Gifts of Encouragement...Next, think about creative ways to decorate your space to evoke a camp-like look and feel. Gather tents, lanterns, camp cooking

15

Supersized Tic-Tac-ToeWhat You’ll Need

• Pool noodles, sticks, or masking tape

• Prizes (choose from the Jesus Brings S’more Joy gifts at www.CTAinc.com)

What You’ll Do

Use tape, pool noodles, or sticks to form an oversized tic-tac-toe grid on the

ground or the fl oor.

Form two teams. Assign one team to be Team X and the other to be Team O. In

turn, each team collaborates to decide where to place their mark. One child from

the team will mark the team’s spot by making an X or O with his or her arms or

bodies in the space the team has chosen. Play continues until the game ends in

a tie or a win. Award Jesus Brings S’more Joy prizes to the winners. Regroup and

play again.

S’more FunWhat You’ll Need

• Marshmallows

• Graham cracker squares

• Chocolate candy squares

• Paper plates

• Spoons

What You’ll Do

This is a relay game. Create teams of no more than four players each. Mark

a start line for each team—perhaps by placing tape on the floor or placing

sticks in the grass. Put a paper plate beside each team’s start line. A distance

away from the start line, set up tables, one for each team. Place the s’mores

ingredients (marshmallows, crackers, and chocolate candy) and a spoon on

each table.

Page 16: Expanding the Impact of Your Gifts of Encouragement...Next, think about creative ways to decorate your space to evoke a camp-like look and feel. Gather tents, lanterns, camp cooking

#SMJ19DCE

16

At your “go” signal, the fi rst person in each team will run to the team’s table and

attempt to bring back one ingredient needed to make a s’more. Players may use

only the spoons to pick up and carry the ingredients! The person should carry the

s’more ingredient, using only the spoon, back to the team’s start line and place it

onto the paper plate. Then, the second player in line takes the spoon and repeats

the run. Play continues until the winning team has one marshmallow, two crackers,

and one square of candy—everything needed to make a s’more.

Mix up the teams and play the game again, as time allows.

Jesus Brings S’more Joy

Getting Started

If your group will be fairly small, prepare a note card to use as you speak. If your group will be fairly large, use a

piece of poster board. On one side, write the word JOY in large letters and decorate it. On the other side, write the

words of 1 John 1:9 and Nehemiah 8:10.

Introduction

Do you know someone who is cranky? Or someone who picks on you on the playground or in the

classroom? It’s hard to be kind to someone like that, isn’t it? Instead of being kind, we sometimes want to say

and do mean things to that person in return. Only meaner. And uglier.

Have you ever felt like that? Have you ever been tempted like that? I know I have!

Did you know that when we feel like that, when we’re tempted like that, we have a secret weapon against

temptation? It’s a weapon God gives us. When we use this weapon, we defeat the temptation to be mean

and ugly.

Would you like to know how it works? Let’s talk about it!

Getting to the Heart

Especially when other people are picking on us, especially when they are saying and doing mean and ugly

things, Jesus helps us remember that sometimes we ourselves are mean to others. We often disobey God in

this way—and in other ways, too. What ways might those be? (Let volunteers suggest things like forgetting to

pray, not wanting to go to church, lying to parents or teachers, whining about homework or bedtime.)

Does God pay us back when we are being mean to others? When we are thinking and saying ugly, sinful

things? No, he does not. Instead, he invites us to confess our sins, to tell him when we’ve done wrong.

When we ask for forgiveness, God always forgives us. He always, always, always forgives us because Jesus

died for us on the cross. Jesus was punished instead of us. What a wonderful gift that is! Here are some Bible

words about that. (Read 1 John 1:9 from the back of your card or poster. Then point to the word JOY on the front.)

God’s forgiveness works joy in our hearts! It’s a great, big joy! Just think! Our sins are washed away and God

is our Friend! Wow! That fi lls our hearts with wonderful joy!

#SMJ19DC

The joy we get from Jesus is a special kind of joy. It feels good to get an A on a math test. We’re happy when

we get to go for ice cream and when we get that birthday gift we’ve wanted all year long. But happiness like

that comes and goes.

The joy that God works in us is diff erent. That joy is the secret weapon I was talking about a minute ago.

Listen to what the Bible says about it. (Read Nehemiah 8:10 from the back of your card or poster. Then point to

the word JOY on the front.)

The joy that God gives is our strength! It fl oods into our hearts and energizes us. Because of that joy, we are

able to love and forgive others.

Have you ever made s’mores? Think about putting a chocolate bar next to a hot marshmallow. In just a few

minutes, the chocolate softens. The warmth of God’s love and forgiveness softens our hearts too. It works

joy—God’s kind of joy—in us. Then we can forgive others.

The same thing can happen when you choose to use warm, kind words and actions to others who hurt you.

Maybe there is “s’more” to their story than you know. Maybe deep down they hurt. Or they are insecure. Or

maybe they don’t know Jesus! Maybe you will get to tell them!

Whatever happens, there is always s’more to your story! S’more love. S’more joy. S’more Jesus. That’s because

God is always giving you more! You have a secret weapon on your side, and that’s the joy God gives!

Taking It Home

Before you leave today, I want you to have (name the item you’re handing out). I hope it reminds you of the

joy you receive from God—s’more joy, s’more love, s’more Jesus—every day. Jesus forgives you, and because

he forgives you, you can forgive others! The spark of God’s joy in you makes it possible for you to bring joy to

others!

Let’s pray. Lord Jesus, thank you for your death on the cross and your resurrection. Thank you that you

always, always, always forgive us! Let your forgiveness keep on fi lling us with your joy. That joy is our

strength, especially when others are mean to us. Help us always live in ways that honor you. We pray in your

name, Lord Jesus. Amen.
