Hayley’s approach to Abuse Prevention Education is underpinned by
her whole community focus, which involves engaging schools via staff
and students, parents and carers, childcare practitioners and
members of other community groups in the process of creating safer
communities. In short, anyone who has anything to do with children
will benefit from the simple yet powerful techniques taught by Hayley,
who as a Childrens’ and family Pastor, felt compelled to search for
answers to the growing problem of child abuse.
With Protective Behaviours and the ‘Holding Hands’ curriculum
emphasis is placed on developing a language and culture of safety for
children and adults alike, improving communication between them
and broadening the networks available to children when they are
feeling unsafe. This involves teaching the basics in easy to understand
ways that are encouraging, non sexual and non threatening.
The Abuse Prevention Education promoted by Hayley is based on the
Protective Behaviours Western Australia system that relies on
participation in primary programs which then lead to the systems
being adapted and developed to suit needs. It does not contain
complex lingo or need expensive props. It is the perfect
package of assistance and facilitation. It can be used across
a variety of client groups and is sensitive to gender and culture.
HAYLEY WALKER is the current Chair
Person of Protective Behaviours South
Africa and an accredited Senior trainer. She
has had extensive experience in presenting
Protective Behaviours to over 3000
children and 300 adults in the last 3 years.

WORKSHOP BREAKAWAY: BARRIERS TO LEARNING
Rene’s approach to learning is centred on the belief that each person,
whether child or adult, can learn new methods that will allow learning to
become an enjoyable process. Many people with learning differences
have developed refined coping mechanisms - but she knows that it is
possible to develop techniques that allow her clients to do much more
than just cope! Throughout Rene's teaching career, she has realised the
huge need for learners to be accepted and treated equally and opened
Dynamic Learning Solution.
One of her long-time students diagnosed with Autism, had many forms
of intervention and after years of struggling to read, was diagnosed as
being dyslexic. The book “The Gift of Dyslexia” really embraced Rene's
outlook and approach to teaching and she was pleased to find a method
that explained that her student was not disabled, but different,
specifically in his thinking style. Rene also realised that he wasn’t the
only student she had with a different thinking
style.
Her student completed The Davis Dyslexia
Correction Programme with a Licenced
Facilitator and Rene was trained as the Support
Person. Rene soon realised that the tools he
was given brought him both immediate and
long-term success. After the program he was
able to begin reading and writing independently
within a short time.
She is currently continuing her studies into
treating anxiety and depression in students.
RENE CHRISTIANE is a qualified special needs
teacher and licensed Davis Facilitator specializing
in barriers to learning and Dyslexia intervention.
