December Calendar

There are great events throughout the year at the Chamber but one of my favorites has to be the Outstanding Business Recognition Dinner. It is always an informative and up-lifting evening celebrating Allegany County’s best. This year we honored a Fortune 500 company that believes in giving back to the community, an innovative and creative young entrepreneur leading a new industry sector, a third-generation family business continuing to grow with more energy and drive than ever and another outstanding young professional from our Jaycees. It was quickly evident that community, family and positive business culture were priorities for all the awardees. Congratulations to AES Warrior Run, 1812 Brewery, Uhl Enterprises / Queen City Motors and Matt Miller. Well done. Reflecting on Matt Miller’s comments, I am reminded what he and I ask each other virtually every day, “Have you made a difference today?” So, our challenge to you is to look in the mirror every morning and ask, “How can I make a difference today?” It’s much easier than you might think. 13th at the Cumberland Country Club. The Western Maryland Delegation will be providing their insights on the upcoming legis-lative session and will take ques-tions. The event begins at 7:30 am at a cost of $20 for Chamber members and $30 for non-mem-bers with a buffet breakfast pro-vided. Maintaining our voice for business in Annapolis is critical.

Thank you to Holiday Inn Express for hosting the November “Chamber After Hours”. There was no winner for Network & Win so the cash prize grows to $1,250 for our January event. Thank you to all our hosts, members and guests who attended “After Hours” in 2019. Because of you the “Chamber After Hours” program is a tremendous benefit of Chamber membership.

The highlight of networking opportunities in December is the Chamber’s Annual Holiday Reception. This year’s Holiday Reception is again being held at the Allegany Museum, 3 Pershing Street, Cumberland on Thursday, December 12th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and is sponsored by AT&T, Allegany Museum, Cintas, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Hunter Douglas Fabrication, FirstEnergy Corpora-tion, Rusco Home Improvement, and State Farm Insurance – Cathy Carpenter & Jonathan Frye. This continues to be one event you don’t want to miss. We look forward to celebrating the season with you.

People are our most valuable asset in life and everyone makes a difference. Realize and appreciate the impact people have on each other and believe in the power of you. “Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?” Clarence Oddbody, Angel Second Class, It’s a Wonderful Life.

May the joy of the holiday season be yours. Thank you to all that continue to make the Chamber the force for business advancement and positive change in Allegany County. I look forward to working for you in 2020. Stu Czapski Executive Director
