EXALTED RULER’S MESS AGE
To my Elks family HAPPY MAY! I am truly hoping that we have seen the last of the snow for at least the next 6 months. As I am pre- paring this, my 2nd newsletter of the year, it is so bright and posi-tive today with the sun shining. We should be looking at this coming year as a POSITIVE, with new officers and new beginnings. Some of my goals for the year are to keep our membership alive and well. This will hap-pen when we take the opportunity to ask family, friends to become a part of our ELK family. Where else can you meet and have a family within a family, serve our community, enjoy a decent priced dinner and beverages to boot? The month of March the Lodge held four of the lodge’s annual events, Enchilada Dinner, Shrimp Boil and most important of all the Installation of Officers with Awards night. At
the Installation of Officers dinner the lodge gave out the award for: Elk of the Year—Darla Hartwig Officer of the Year—Jack Fitzwater Congratulations to the winners. It takes a lot of time and dedication to achieve these high honors. They definitely embrace Elkdom. Thank you!!! I know that all who came had a great time. A big thank you to all the officers for giving of yourselves for the betterment of your lodge. Also Thank you to the PER Associa-tion in the performance of Installation of Offic-ers. The month of May brings a lot of fun events so please check your calendars and support your fellow members who are giving their time to make things happen. We are having a Ken-tucky Derby Party, along with a steak fry, a Shrimp Dinner, and the Memorial Day Parade, along with the regular monthly ongoing events. Come on down, it is the Best Place on Earth! P.S. Don’t waste your time and energy on negative
people. Let it go. You don’t need other people's ap-
proval to be who God made you to be.
Thank You to the volunteers for the April 13 Pancake Breakfast! The money earned
was donated to the Business Professionals of America—Hutchinson High School.
(Volunteers: Darla Hartwig, Craig Schmeling, Paul Ackland, Sidney Grams, Lori

Does Talk - Louise Schroeder, Does Drove 233 President
This month brings the end of the
typical school year and the start of
the season of boys and girls – sum-
mer! While school kids literally
count the weeks until summer
break, parents may have the oppo-
site sentiment as they contemplate
the added burden of planning dis-
tractions for their now idle kids.
Lodges in my part of the country
experience a little down-market during the summer as people
spend more time in outdoor activities.
It seems to me these factors suggest some real service oppor-
tunities for Local Lodges. What can your Lodge do for school
kids to help them celebrate their accomplishments or occupy
their time productively? What events are planned for the whole
family to enjoy?
One of the first things I remember about the Elks was when I
was invited to a dinner hosted by the Lodge honoring all the
senior boys. There was a guest speaker I don’t remember and
great food – BBQ as I recall – and each boy was assigned an
Elks escort to host and introduce him that evening. That same
dinner still goes on today, a tradition more than 60 years
strong. Many of the Members of my home Lodge have similar
fond memories of that event.
Picnics, fishing derbies, golf tournaments or lessons, baseball
leagues, pool parties, bowling nights and cookouts are all
events within the reach of most any Local Lodge. What a great
service to your Members or, better yet, a wonderful way to
reach young families who might be future prospects.
If your Lodge has the facility space available, subject to state
and local regulations, plan a similar experience for local kids
this summer. With proper supervision and parental approval,
such an event would give busy parents a needed break and
one more benefit for their membership dollars.
A little extra attention and business for the Lodge is a good
thing too.
See you down the road.
Does Members I hope everyone had a good Easter. Maybe spring will come eventually. One day it is warm and then more snow. Oh! No! Thanks to Jackie Smith for hosting the April meeting.
In May, I will be representing our Does Drove at the High School Senior Awards night. The Does scholarship will be presented. The annual Elks Flag Day program will be held in Library Square Park on June 9. Doe members should be at the Park by 5:30 p. m. to set up and bring the baked pies for the Does Pie Social. Karen Gehrke is the chairper-son for this event. Our Grand Lodge Convention will be held in Charleston, South Carolina, June 15-19. The Drove received notice that our Does District meeting is scheduled for October 3-4 in Fall City, Nebraska. More information on this will follow later.

PER Association Message Cliff DeBlock President
I think we are all happy to see some warmer temperatures and to see the snow melt away. I know I am. Of course, that means we have to get the rakes out of the shed and clean up all the left-over leaves and the trash that accumulated during the winter. A new Lodge year has started. There are still a couple of va-
cant positions to be filled. If you have an interest in working
with the Lodge officers then let them know. They will be glad
to have you. This is your Lodge; and if there is a function that
you would like to see, then let them know. May brings the
Youth Camp clean-up. Lee Cox and his crew of workers would
like to have a few more workers to join them. A lot of work
gets done to get the Camp ready for the kids. From times past I
seem to remember that there was also time for relaxation.
At our last PER Association meeting our By-Laws were re-
viewed and updated. One of the sections state that PERs are
supposed to elect officers annually. The following is the list of
PER officers that were elected for the coming year: 2014-2015
Officer are Cliff DeBlock, President; George Lehn, Vice-
president; Stan Scieszka, Secretary; Sid Grams, Treasurer, Arle
Schlecht, Historian.

Help the Lodge
The Lodge is looking for people that might be willing to help the Lodge with their talents and save the Lodge some money in doing so. If you have any of these professions and can help when the Lodge needs them, please contact the Lodge and let someone know. If you are an electrician, a plumber or a HVAC person, we could use help from time to time and would greatly appreciate it when it comes to repairs around the lodge. If you don’t have a specialty, there are other ways you can help. The Lodge is in need of items that can help improve things but don’t have the budget to purchase them. Another way is if you would be willing to help on a Burger Night or a Steak Fry Night by cooking, bartending, doing dishes or selling tickets, please let an Officer or the Club Coordinator know.
There is a special need for helpers during the Water Carnival Parade on June 15th. Line up is at noon and the parade begins at 1pm. If you are available to help, please contact Tammy at (320) 587-0627.
