Tom Sittler Focuses on Inner Strength For the past year, Lamb Transportation Coordinator and House Supervisor Tom Sittler has spent nearly every waking — and sleeping — moment providing support for Lamb residents. “I like to serve these people; I consider them my family. I get satisfaction from doing the Lord’s work,” he says. The father of four children, Tom has five grandchildren and two great-grand- children — in addition to his Lamb family. At Lamb, he drives people on errands and doctor’s visits and provides home supervision as a housefather to a small group of Lamb residents, keeping their supplies stocked, providing support as needed, and remaining on hand in case of emergencies. Tom served in the United States Navy between 1956 and 1960, when he graduated as a second class petty officer. As an aviation electronic technician, he operated and maintained radar and surveillance equipment, which helped to lay the groundwork for his affinity for computers today. Now, Lamb staff members benefit from his computer savvy, and often open their email inboxes to find cheerful thoughts from Tom. In his rare free time, Tom writes poetry. His poem, Where the Strength Lies, reflects what many of us discover: “It reminds people that actual strength is not physical, but it’s what’s inside that counts,” he says. Steven Santa Maria Keeps Chivalry Alive Lamb resident Steven Santa Maria has been dating the same lady for 40 years. When asked when they will marry, he replies, “We’re not ready yet!” Ever a gentleman, Steven keeps chivalry and service alive, sweeping the front porch at Sweet Repeats daily, assisting Lamb voters on election days, driving friends to doctors’ visits, and volunteering at the North Penn Volunteer Fire Company in North Wales. Throughout each day, he presents himself with forthright confidence, stays up-to-date on everyone’s news, holds doors for friends, and makes people laugh with a joke or his penchant for abbreviations. At the end of the week, he can often be heard to say he is looking forward to his “P.C.,” or paycheck! “The Governor,” as he is affectionately called, attended a private school in Massachusetts, where he nurtured a second-nature gentlemanly grace that continues to make others feel at ease at Lamb today. Steven’s two sisters chose to bring him to Lambbecause they were impressed with the range ofactivities that would be available to him. Whilehe enjoys the occasional Lamb Dance or BingoNight, Steven also appreciates the support thatLamb provides when he wants to pursue his owninterests, from his job packaging materials forTimberlane Woodcrafters, to visiting his sister orfriends in the Chestnut Hill area.
