UNI TED KINGDOM Challenging market conditions, recycling capacity, changing scope of regulations, funding for local authorities and, of course, the potential impact of Brexit have all put challenges on the WEEE and EwasteR pilot programme in the UK. To date UCLAN has recruited eight staff from Furniture Matters. The cohort is drawn from Lancaster and Morecombe depots and workshops in Blackpool, Lancashire. The training and assessments covering TUs 1, 2 and 3 has gone well and has been positively received by the learners. For the Open Management

CYPRUS The Cyprus pilot training course started on February 9 and finished on March 31, 2017. It was a very interesting and challenging two months period for coordination especially for all the participants, the trainees as well as the trainers. The recycling sector in Cyprus is extremely small with only a few operating companies and with
limited employment opportunities in the whole sector. However, when we started examining the sector more closely we ended up with more organizations involved in WEEE, therefore our task was finally easier that what we were expecting at the beginning. For this we should thank WEEE
Electrocyclosis Cyprus Ltd, which was really helpful and extremely important for the successful completion of the Cyprus pilot program. WEEE Electrocyclosis Cyprus Ltd is the organisation that was created in accordance with the provisions of the European Regulation 668/2004 of the Solid and

Hazardous Waste Law. This law defines the responsibilities and obligations of the producers of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE), which in Cyprus are mostly companies importing Electrical and Electronic Equipment. We have worked with a group of learners that stayed with us from the beginning to the end of the pilot activities. The majority of our trainees were people already possessing a university degree and somehow interested or already related to the recycle sector. Our activities have been developed in accordance with the training plan.
Classroom lessons took place at the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry premises. It was
the first part of the pilot program where legislation and procedures where clearly presented to the participants. We had trainers from governmental departments, private organisations, WEEE
Electrocyclosis Cyprus Ltd and others.

Open Management school took place at Intercollege. Trainees had the opportunity to be taught by two lecturers from the University of Nicosia. One of the lecturers was a waste and environment expert and the other one was a business management lecturer. By combining these two lecturers we managed to cover all training requirements at the highest level. Both lecturers were very important for the completion of the pilot program and had excellent knowledge of their task as well as the goals and objectives of the training.
Lab shadowing was the most interesting part of the pilot programme. It was the part where trainees had the opportunity to see what is been done actually in the market of waste of electrical and electronic equipment. Trainees had the chance to see how legislation and waste techniques and procedures are into place in organisations and to relate
classroom lessons with practical experience. Trainees visited recycling companies, reuse companies, and WEEE Electrocyclosis Cyprus Ltd. Our trainees had the opportunity to observe and be involved in day to day operations in all of the organisations that participated in this part of the project.
It is now clear that the most interesting part of the pilot project was the lab shadowing activities. It is also obvious that the combination of classroom training and lab shadowing activities is the best way to correctly educate people at this level. This way education can be more interesting, can motivate teamwork, it develops a better
