Context
Childcare Act, Section 12 Guidance
• 2.1 FISs are expected to provide comprehensive expert information advice and guidance to parents on childcare and early years services in their area. This includes information about:
– registered childcare– non-registered childcare– the free entitlement to early years provision; and– childcare settings suitable for children with disabilities and
special educational needs.• 5.2 Prescribed descriptions of information relating to
services, facilities or publications– Services and facilities– Publications– For local services, facilities and publications, FISs should be
able to draw on information contained in the local authority’s Children’s Services Directory.
Education Act 2006, Section 507B
• Youth Matters: Next Steps, Consultation on statutory guidance on Positive Activities:
– In responding to the legislation local authorities will need to: • provide comprehensive, accurate and accessible information on local
positive activities – including a web-based directory of information - that informs young people about the activities and facilities available.
• Children’s Plan, 6.33:– Local authorities have a duty to publicise information about
activities, and have been provided with funds to support this. But we know that some would benefit from more support in both mapping the information about what is available, and getting the information to young people.
• Childcare Act, S12 guidance, 8.10:– The services with which links should be established include:
• Accessing positive leisure time activities Local authorities’ duty to secure young people's access to positive leisure time activities, including youth work, recreation, volunteering and cultural activities.
ISPP Grant
• Childcare provider information: details of registered and unregistered childcare providers, in order to support LAs’ duty under Section 12 Paragraph 2 (a) of the Childcare Act 2006.
• Information on services, facilities and publications which may be of benefit to parents and prospective parents to support LAs to fulfil their duty under Section 12 Paragraphs 2 (b) and (c) of the Childcare Act 2006. This includes information currently held in Children’s Services Directories.
