This is an exercise designed to assist with recognising what waste will be generated, it is not necessary to list absolutely every stall on site as long as all stall holders are aware of the guidelines.

Activity /Stall Product Materials generated

Recyclable? (Y/N)

Have vendors been told what can be brought to the event?

(Y/N)

Have reminders been sent 2 weeks prior to event re what vendors can/can’t sell/bring (Y/N)

Example: Hamburger Stall Hamburger / hot

chips Carboard Oil Plastic wrap Serviettes

Y Y - free drop off N Y - organic bin

Y no polystyrene and bottled water

How many bin stations are required for public use?

Formula: 1 meal = 1 litre rubbish 1,000 people * 2 meals = 2,000 litres estimated waste Divide 2,000 by 240 litres (a standard bin) = 8 bins = 4 bin stations of 1 waste and 1 recycle bin each

What bins are required back of house?

Will bin caps be borrowed from PMHC?

How many bin caps requested to borrow from PMHC Name of event waste service provider

When and where will bins be delivered?

Frequency of waste services (i.e. number of times per day / night) When will bins be taken off site and how will you prevent contamination between the time when bin station staff leave and contractors pick up bins? Other waste disposal requirements e.g. oils

Bin contamination plan **Attach ** attach your plan (ideas) for reducing contamination of recycling bins and food and organic bins

**Note: public place bins are not permitted to be used for your event or for post event waste disposal - this is to ensure there is room in the bins for the public to use once you bump out. Make sure you place event bins next to / in front of the permanent public bins.

*Attach map(s) of bin station locations

Some of these things may not be done at the time of filling out the template- but keep this as a reminder to do so

Action Date / Time Who Done (tick )

Write media release about the ways in which you are reducing your impact and issue to local media Inform stallholders early about waste wise requirements and the consequences if not adhered to Script announcements written for MC to read out during the event You may like to ask local, community groups or environmental organisation to host a stall to promote recycling / composting/ using reusable packaging like beeswax wraps etc. Asking an environmental or community organisation to man a waste station and ensure there is no contamination into the organics / recycling bins Social media announcements advising attendees what to except and what to bring to support the waste initiatives Take at least 2 photos of bin stations and submit to Council

Add in these things to your run sheet /to do list or print this table for your Waste Coordinator

Action Date / Time Who Done (tick )

Attach labels/signs and caps (if used) to bin

Removed stand-alone bins or add another bin to pair them into bin stations Place event bins next to permanent bins.

Set up bin stations at high traffic locations

Monitor stallholders as they set up and remind them of must not use, supply or sell items Final check of bin station location /signage

Brief other event staff where the extra bins/ bin liners are for servicing the bins during the event

6. BIN STATION LOCATIONS

Other

Add these actions to your run sheet /to do list or print this table for you Waste Coordinator

Action Who Done (tick )

Monitor waste bins, swap locations if can see its needed or add more bins to certain locations, swap full ones out for empties

Relevant waste wise announcements by MC

Monitor waste and recycling bin content qualities during day. I.e. check what is being put into the recycling bin so you can see if it is contaminated with non-recycles. Your waste contractor will not recycle your recyclables if contamination is above xyz%

Monitor back of house during event i.e. are stalls using the recycling/ compost bins as they should be

Monitor the back of house as stallholders begin to pack up

Begin to clean up and collect unused bins. Bins that are recycling or compost and are clean from contamination and full should be taped closed or put behind the red bins so that those cleaning up don’t put rubbish in them

Conduct verbal surveys of stallholders during clean up and attendees as you wander the site

Other

Add these actions to your run sheet /to do list or print this table for you Waste Coordinator

Action Who Done (tick )

Place bins at collection point Full Recycling or compost bins not contaminated should be placed behind the red bins so that those cleaning up don’t put rubbish in them

Continue monitoring stallholders as they pack up
