Safety Policy Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) is committed to providing a healthy and safe work environment for employees, clients, contractors and members of the public. This commitment extends to ensuring that BCEC operations do not place anyone at risk of injury or illness.

Obligations and Due Diligence Persons conducting a business or undertaking, Contractors and the BCEC have legal obligations under the Work health and Safety Act 2011 and the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 and other legislation, Standards and Codes of Practice to ensure a safe environment for persons conducting a business or undertaking, clients, workers, contractors, exhibitors, delegates and members of the public.

Requirement for a Risk Assessment You have identified elements of your event which may impact on the health and safety of others and therefore we require you to undertake a more detailed assessment of your event in order to ensure that your obligations with regards to work health and safety and due diligence are complied with in accordance with relevant legislation. This document lists several types of risks that may be relevant to your event, where elements of your event are not identified in this document, it is your responsibility as a person conducting a business or undertaking to identify all hazards created by your event and identifies control measures to minimise or eliminate risk to persons or damage to property.

Form Completion Complete the risk categories (page 8) that could affect your event, detail potential hazards, identify the risk rating, complete the control measures to minimise or eliminate such risk/s and identify who in your organisation or your contractor/s organisation is to action the required control measures.

How to Assess the Risk In order to assess event risks, each activity should be accessed on the likelihood or frequency of the risk occurring coupled with the severity or impact should that risk or occurrence eventuate.

Return of Assessment Please return this document or your own personalised risk assessment to your Event Planning Manager no less than two (2) weeks prior to the commencement of your event. The following chart provides a Risk Matrix for your calculation of the severity of the risk. The second chart indicates possible actions or activities that should be undertaken to illuminate or minimise the risks.

The Queensland Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and regulations require that risks are assessed and treatment options provided to minimise those risks.

The information you have supplied will enable BCEC to assess your event. You may be required to submit further information or submit a more detailed risk management plan for your event. We will forward such notice to you.
