Evaulation question 3:

What have you learned from your audience feedback.

Page 2: Evaulation question 3

Having audience feedback is important throughout the produce of creating a product or a number of products, this is because it helps us as the creators to make decisions into what the products that the target audience want and need and what their preferred finished product should do and what it should look like. As the creators of a number of products, our aim is to create products that are appealing to the target audience and satisfy their needs for the products. Without the target audience questionnaire at the beginning of the course, our project would not have the back bones that it does and also wouldn’t have the support that it does for the target audience because it is something that they want not just a group of products that we think is adequate for the genre and what we think that the target audience what.

Having audience feedback at the beginning of the course, it allowed my partner and me to see clearly the genre of music that the target audience enjoyed and also the products, colour schemes etc. That they wanted us to incorporate within them. Feedback from the target audience is not only important at the beginning of the project, but it also important throughout, this is because when we had created a first draft of the products we were able to talk to the target audience and see what the elements they liked and didn’t which allowed us to either change the parts they didn’t like or enhance the elements that they liked. When gaining feedback, we asked specific questions to not only inform us of what they thought of the products but to push the imagination of the audience because our products should push the Rock pop genre slightly to show the audience that there are different elements that could be incorporated into the genre form others that are not already used within it at the moment. The question were related around the mise-en-scene that we used within all three products, the colour scheme and the codes and conventions that we used from both the Rock and Pop genre but also a couple that are typically used in different ones such as R&B for example.

Page 4: Evaulation question 3

To gain the audience feedback at the beginning of the project we used questionnaires, this is because this is preferred way to gain feedback and information because there is a small amount of time needed to take part in them and also they are easy to answer because they are mostly closed questions like yes or no or specified answer that they audience can pick from in a dropdown bar. Using this type of questioning allows us to have an accurate reading of the answers quickly and clearly. One advantage of using this type of questioning is because it is qualitative data is produced in response to the answer that the audience have given in answer to our questions. Another advantage is that it provides us with a clear indicator with was wrong correct with the three products, therefore allowing us to make changes to the products quickly. However, a problem with qualitative data is that is that it can take a long time to create and not many people want o to be involved so only a small number of people are involved in the producing the data so we have to wait a while to have a substantial amount of people to have answered the question to have a balanced and equal amount of people to be able to have a good result at the end. Another way we gained target audience feedback was through having conversations with the audience face to face. As a pair we did this by gathering a small amount of the target audience (5 to be exact), with printed off images of the products while one of us asked the questions and the one other had a note pad and wrote down notes of what the information was that was mentioned by the audience and what they throughout the products.

SONG CHOICE:

In order to get the correct target audience for our final products, we found and picked three different songs that we both liked and fitted into the Rock pop genre and also conformed to the codes and conventions that are common within this genre. We then played them to our target audience who were both the ideal and different to the character profile of our set target audience as it helped us to target a diverse target audience instead of just one specific person. After getting our target audience listen to the song they decided on the song ‘I AM’ by Hands like Houses. In relation to the final song choice, it was very positive as both we and the target audience believe that they made the correct choice which would satisfy a large diverse audience for age, genre and culture.

Audience feedback is the most important thing to consider before attempting to create a media product. By using a questionnaire it allows for a large amount of information to be collected at once from a large number of people within a short amount of time. By creating a questionnaire before thinking about creating any media products, I created a questionnaire for my research which gave me a clearer understanding of the target audience and the sort of products that they would want for example; the colours they like, font style etc.

At the start of the project it was important to create a questionnaire to get a certain demographic and psychographic understanding of what the target audience are. By doing this, it allows us to gather information from the public I order to produce products that were appealing to the target audience. Collecting data allows for a broader study of the research and our products in how they are required in order to satisfy the target audience and give us a sense of pleasure. We created a standard qualitative and quantitative data so we could get the best feedback possible.

It was essential that audience feedback is do throughout the creation of our products, allowing us to gain an understanding of what the target audience wanted and how we could improve the work that we had already done to fit the tastes of what the target audience wanted. By gaining target audience it allowed us to improve the music video in order to give the audience a sense of engagement and pleasure from watching it. In order to create a music video that was engaging for the audience and satisfied their needs we had to maintain a high level of feedback throughout the production through questionnaires, verbal feedback etc. Post production of our music video, as a par we decide to mind map the ideas for our video and the basic idea that we would follow throughout producing it. On this mind map we stated what props, mise-en-scene would be used etc. We also mind mapped who was going to be our artist for the video and what they should look like and whether or not the people we had in mind fitted into the codes and conventions of the genre of music video we were creating. It was also important to gain approval from the artist themselves, this is because if the band were not happy with performing the song that we had selected then they wouldn’t have performed it realistically and wouldn’t have portrayed a sense of performance within the video which was what we were aiming for. After producing our music video, by getting the target audience to watch the video through we gained invaluable feedback which allowed us to improve the video to the preference of the target audience.

When it came to designing the digipak, I designed the inside of the final digipak –this contained the insert, the background of the CD and the CD itself. While I was creating the products, I wanted to

maintain a high level of feedback from my partner in order to maintain consistency within the products. I also wanted to make sure that the look and style of what I was creating was clean and continued the

colour scheme and theme throughout the product from my partner’s parts to the areas that I was creating. To gain the feedback from my partner, I would talk to her face to face during lesson time

asking her questions and what her opinions were of the products that I was creating, however when it was outside of school time, I would WhatsApp images to her if I needed her opinion on something I had

either created or had edited to improve it. We had other various ways of communicating outside of school through social media, but I believe that the best way to communicate with my partner was through WhatsApp as we were able to communicate between each other but we were also able to

communicate and gain feedback from the band members. Through this social media app I was able to send images, videos and messages and receive them easily. Feedback is important as it allowed to keep track of what each other are doing and it also allows us to assess where what each other has achieved

and whether or not they are on track to meet targets or not. We have received many positive for both of our first drafts and final products that we have created. By gaining feedback we were able to improve

all of our products to become more appealing to our target audience and more market friendly.

The feedback for my magazine advert was continuously positive throughout the progress of the creating and designing of the product. However, I did need to make some changes to the product over the time frame but they were only small changes such as the mina image but that is all.

FINAL FEEDBACK:

Page 10: Evaulation question 3

In conclusion, by taking part in target audience feedback it allowed my final products to come on leaps and bounds to improve them and to get the target audience more involved in it. By creating questionnaires for example it also allowed us to make products at which the target audience wanted to see on the market and was not something that we were just making them for the sake of making them. By having S.M.A.R.T targets it allowed me to keep on track of what products I had to make at a certain time in order to achieve the final goal of the final products having to be completed for Easter 2016.Specific: By being specific with what I had to create, for what demographic and psychographic and how it should make the target feel, allowed me to stay focused on what I want to achieve and how I wanted to achieve it. Measurable: by gaining feedback from my target audience it allowed me to set criteria of what the target audience wanted and how well I was achieving what they want. Attainable: By setting myself targets that were high but not too high that I wouldn’t be able to meet them. Realistic: When creating a product, it was essential that the ideas that we had as a pair were realistic and we were able to meet them easily and also the feedback that we gained from the audience had to be realistic as well otherwise we would not be able to meet the demands of what they wanted us to create for them. Time: We had set ourselves a final deadline for all three of the products which was a week and a half before the final deadline of the Easter holidays, by doing this; it allowed us to have enough time to make changes to the products if we needed to or if any feedback was missed and we would then therefore have enough time to change or edit the product. In all, audience feedback played the largest part of the production of the final products, this is because the products are being made for the target audience and not us so we needed to make sure that the products were what the audience wanted not what we wanted to make for them.
