EvaluationFor unit 37 I had to create a game show or a cookery show and present it. Before I did any of this I completed research into the different types of presenting. I looked at some presenters, both past and present. I looked at how they present their TV sows, looking at things such as their tone of voice, body language and the type of language they use. I then compared how they present to the type of show they were presenting. I looked into techniques of presenting and wrote a report on how to present.

These Print screens show my work on Wordpress. These particular images show some of my work.

After looking at techniques of how to present, I had to start thinking about what kind of TV show I was going to present. I created a table and compared different TV shows. This helped me choose what kind of TV show I was going to create. I looked at different kinds of data such as viewing numbers, popularity, cost and critic view. After looking at this table I decided that it would be better for me to create a TV game show.

These print screens show my research on presenting.

I then started to prepare for my game show. I needed to come up with an idea and a name for my TV game show. I eventually came up with an idea to do my game show on music. I felt this was a good idea as everybody who can listen to music, does listen to music. I created a background for my game show and also a logo. I created a logo and also made a GIF version of it so I could use that to make my Game show look better. I also had to gather materials that I was going to use of the Internet. I got the music that I was going to use and edited it ready for use in my game show. I edited the music using a program called Audacity. This allowed me to use tools such as “Cut” and “Trim” to edit the music to the proposed time that I was allowing the contestants on my game show to listen to. I then asked members of my class if they wanted to be in my TV game show and four pupils offered to help out and be in it. I set about putting the questions together ready for when we were going to start recording. I also managed to put a script together so I could introduce the contestants and welcome the audience to the game show. I put together a time scale to use so I could work on different things throughout the week. I also conducted a RECCE and release form for the location and the contestants. I was then ready to start recording. To help me with the recording I set up the green screen with help from the contestants. This allowed me to add an image over the green screen to make it look like we were in a studio.

This image shows you part of the recording.

We then started to record the show as a rehearsal. This allowed me to learn my script and get to know what works for me and what doesn’t work when I was presenting. Whilst recording I faced a problem. I couldn’t fit all the contestants in one shot and keep the camera close enough to hear everybody. To overcome this I used a microphone that was hidden out of sight from the camera. The microphone

was connected to the camera so the camera would only pick up what the microphone could.

Because of all the research I completed before I started to film, I had in mind all the techniques I needed to be a good presenter. I knew what I needed to do and how I needed to do it.

After completing all the filming I then had to get all the footage from the memory card onto the computer. I then had to import the footage into a programme called “Final Cut Pro”. This programme allowed me to edit the footage. I used an effect called “Chroma Keyer” to get an image behind the host and contestants. As you can see from the image above, this worked really well. Final Cut Pro also allowed me to cut and trim pars of the imported media that I didn’t need. I was also able to change the levels in the sound to make it louder or quieter, depending on what I needed. Below are some pictures to help explain.

During the editing process I found that I had my back turned from the camera for the majority of the show. To solve this I went back and recorded more footage of me

asking the questions but only I was in the shot, this put all of the audience’s attention on me and nothing else.

The audience for my game show is families living at home in the UK. I feel that my game show is appropriate to its audience. I think this because I have chosen music that everybody in a family can relate to, for example, old and new music.

After completing the editing I was able to show the final product to my fellow peers and tutors. This allowed me to gather feedback and thoughts on what could be improved. I asked questions such as:

Do you feel the sound was to a good quality? Do you feel the game show was long enough? Do you think there is a humorous feel to the show?

They were able to answer the questions with yes or no answers, if the answering person responded with the answer “NO”, I asked them how they thought I could improve this. From looking back at the data I acquired from the questionnaire I found that people thought that the sound was a good quality or was between good and bad, no one answered with no. I also found that everyone thought that the image/video quality was good and didn’t need improving. People also thought that the game show was funny and they understood the format of the TV show. My tutor also provided some extra feedback from my tutor. This enabled me to know what I needed to improve on if I were to do this unit again.

If I were to complete this unit again I would do the following to make sure that my game show is perfect.

Rehearse more – This is critical, I feel that I did not rehearse and look over the footage to see what it looked like and how I could improve on this.

Use a second camera – This would allow me to make the game show look better from a second angle.
