What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why?Adam Lancaster – Media Studies

What is distribution?• Distribution is the highly competitive business of launching and

sustaining films in the market place. Films do not become talking points or find their places in cinema screens and being watched by millions of people by accident? The distributor's challenges is to bring each one to market by a number of ways and in doing so, hopefully successfully.

Think about the sort of film you have produced. Compare this to the type of films the distribution companies have released before – are any of them likely to be interested in your film? Explain why.• One company that I would

think  would be interested in the sort of film we have produced is Warner Bros who have successfully produced the films Harry Potter and Suicide Squad, although in both the genre is more of an action packed thriller it features spooky scenes with jump scares and shocks, which relate to my audience and my film. I think that out film would work with this independent company who has had previous success with similar genres very well and hopefully have a lot of success.

Is your film going to appeal to UK audiences only? Or does it have a wider appeal? Why? Why not?

• I think our film would appeal to all audiences, not only in the UK but I think it would have a wider appeal as the genre of Phycological thrillers a very popular worldwide and there have been a number of successful thrillers with big success worldwide. For example Insidious, Inception and The Women In Black,

Possible Marketing strategies, release strategies and exhibition options• The job of a distribution is to create visibility and

to raise enough awareness and interest to persuade potential audiences to buy tickets to go and watch it at its earliest date possible.

• With probably a dozen or more posters on display at a cinema at any one time, distribution companies have to make good advertisement posters so that the audience go to watch it and are attracted to see that rather than any other on at that time.

• The most important and probably the most lucrative and persuasive part of marketing strategies is the trailer. It has to be good, not give to much away, appeal to the right audience and catch the audiences eyes enough so they want to come and see it.
