How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

To create my documentary I used Adobe Premier Pro CS6, which is part of a package that includes Indesign, Fireworks and After Effects. The camcorders we used were Panasonic HD and the tripods were Manfrotto. I also used a Zoom sound recorder when conducting my interviews, which improved the quality of sound. I already had previous experience in using Premiere and the camcorders but was less experienced with both the tripod and the sound recorder; independently using this equipment has allowed me to further develop my skills. In regards to transferring the clips onto the Mac’s I used a programme called VLC, which is an open source, cross-platform multimedia player. VLC was a new programme for us as a group by after a tutorial on how to use it I found it very simple to use. During the construction of my documentary I decided I needed to add some music, to do this I used a copyright free music website called Digccmixter, which I had used previously, it allows you to download your chosen track directly to your documents and this can be easily imported into your project.

Using Wordpress was also something that I was familiar with because of my AS coursework but this time around I was able to use more technologies in order to present my blogs and make them more aesthetically appealing. I’ve used a variety of different technologies in which I had had no previous experience with last year. For one of my blogs this year I used Voki. It allows you to create your very own talking character which you can customise to look like you. I made the decision to use this to not only to break up the written blogs but also to develop my technological skill as Voki was very simple and easy to use.

I have also been able to confidently embed more images and videos into my blog, although at first I was slightly unsure of how to do it after watching a couple of tutorials and reading a couples of guides I discovered it wasn’t as tricky as I first thought, this then allowed me to embed images that I had uploaded onto Imgur straight into my posts on Wordpress. Also including videos from Youtube and Vimeo such as interviews and extracts from documentaries I have watched, as well as feedback clips from my own Media lessons.

To present my evaluation I am going to use websites such as Slide Share and Prezi. I haven’t had previous

experience in using either of these programmes in Wordpress or otherwise so being able to use these

successfully, I feel will improve my technological skills.
