Most magazine covers use a mid shot or a medium close up so that you can see facial expressions of the artist on the cover.

Most magazine cover lines will be colours that contrast with the background colour to make it easy to read. If the colours were too similar it would be difficult to read.

A lot of magazine front covers have a barcode so customers can find out the price of the magazine. Some magazines also have the price on it so they can read the price so I chose to do this on my cover.

A lot of magazine covers have headers at the top of the page to show some of the features inside the magazine.

A lot of magazine covers will have just one photo on the cover and this will be the main image whereas some will have one main image and maybe some smaller images but I decided to have just one main image.

Like most magazines I have a consistent house style to make it obvious that the magazine is all together as one and are linked. My house style consists of black, white and yellow. I chose these colours because I felt that they are aesthetically pleasing.

It is conventional to have a dateline on a magazine contents page and I decided to have one on my contents page.

It is conventional on a contents page to have the features of the magazine on one side of the page with an image on the other side. I believe that this is aesthetically pleasing but some magazines will be different as they could have features and images in other places on the page.

On the contents page of magazines often have the logo/masthead from the cover repeated at the top of the contents page.

It is also conventional for the contents page to have different sub-headings to order the contents and help the reader to find what they are looking for.

Contents pages tend to have numbers next to the name of the feature so that it is easy for the reader to find it in the magazine if it is something that they are interested in.

It is conventional on a double page spread for the writing of the article to be split into columns to make it easier for the reader to read. I chose to put my magazine into three columns.

A lot of double page spreads will have a picture that takes up the majority or all of one of the pages. In my magazine I decided that I would have my picture take up a large amount of the left hand side page but I also wanted text and information about the article.

It is conventional on a double page spread to have at least one pull quote from the text. This is used to tell the reader what the article will focus on and if they will want to read it.

Under the title of the article there is often a subheading to tell the reader what the article is about.

It is conventional for a double page spread to have smaller images on the double page spread. This is to give further detail to the article and publicity to the artist but not all magazines have smaller images.

Pages numbers are often included on the bottom of the pages of the double page spread so that the readers can easily find the page that they are looking for and so they know what page they are on.
