Page 1: Evaluation Of The Project

Evaluation of the project 1. Briefing In general we are still satisfied about our briefing. In most parts we kept to the things we wrote down and promised in the briefing. One thing we made a bit difficult for ourselves is the sequence of the project, because it has to run once every year for 15 years, we are not able to foresee the future, thus unable to know how for instance the handheld market will develop over time. However, this didn’t stop us from trying to put out our vision of how the concept might work. 2. Media Strategy and 3. conceptual design In the final design we have lessened the number of connections between the different media, but we still have a good cross media feeling between the separate media. The personal stories we had created really helped us with getting a grip on the concept we wanted to create. Usable features popped out of the stories and were implemented in our concept. The storyboard we created in the 3rd phase was still used as a big part of the movie storyboard. 4. Detailed design There’s a lot of media in our design. Some of them are not as important as others. We’ve depended on the use of some new(-er) technologies, which are not as wide-spread as we would like to see, such as QR-code scanners, and augmented reality software, this might be a bit of a problem in the early years of running this project. The wireframes, most notably for the mobile application, were very detailed and elaborate. This caused in some instances to have us loose track of the overall view. For example, the wireframe consisted of many option windows that were not necessary. The software was to be made to detect the technological features of a mobile phone automatically anyway. 5. Evaluation of the concept Our proposition as stated in the first couple of weeks is as follows:

“We want to leave a long lasting impression on the new students, emphasizing the beneficial nature of the construction project and the organizational forte of the TU Delft community, and at the same time having provided the new students with useful information and entertainment.”

Did we achieve our goals? Well, we conducted some interviews to test the overall concept of website, advertisement and mobile application. Besides that, we haven’t really put our design to the test. Therefore we are not able to thoroughly evaluate the proposition to leave a long lasting impression. However, apart from that, we believe that we achieved to come up with a concept that covers all that we promised to materialize. From the small questionnaire we did it showed that almost all of the persons we interviewed find the route planning part handy when you do not know your way around in Delft.

The concept of the game, when looking at our movie, was a little unclear for most of the interviewed, but they enjoyed the fact that they are able to play a game as a part of the OWEE. A good suggestion was to implement it in the OWEE program, because there is so much to do in the OWEE, that when the game is voluntary it might get skipped by a lot of people because of lack of time. There was some concern there may not be enough incentive for students to play the game and that if it was incorporated into one of the OWEE events that there would be a more successful cross from the website to the game. For the final design of the game, when it actually has to be played, a lot more challenging questions have to be developed. The questions that we have implemented in the game are more examples for what we want to do with the project. In general we might have wanted to implement a bit too much into the application, making it a bit complicated to understand for people who see it for the first time, without all the background information. We think we have succeeded in our goal to create something that is fun and also informative for new students. We offer them directions to important points in the OWEE, as well as a fun game to get to know an important part of delft (spoorzone).
