EVALUATION:

Burton's theory of audience identification I considered the media and social groupings of my target audience. For this magazine the social grouping will be females that are aged between 18-30, and the media grouping are people who are interested in pop. They will be interested in music artists such as Nicki Minaj, Trey and Beyonce.

They will be in the C1, C2, category of social classification as they're most likely to be students or young adults at University who can’t afford an expensive magazine.

I have achieved this through the mise-en-scene as the girl on my front cover is young and trendy and looks like the typical person I would like to read my magazine. The colours are simple yet effective and the content inside my magazine has a young feel to it. The images of my model are simple and the backgrounds plain and simple so not to confuse and complicate the strong images I have. Most of my images are close up so the images are more emotive.

Girl is young and up to date with fashion.

Red is used which represents liveliness and black and white contrast from this to give a simple but effective colour range.

The magazine is only £1.50 which would appeal to young people who generally don’t have a lot of money.

The bribe of free tickets to the isle of white festival also entices people to buy it as they could win!

The celebrities mentioned are Beyonce, Adele etc who are all new and relevant to the music industry.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

After exploring many front covers, contents pages and double page spreads, of different music genres, I found that they all, mostly follow and use the same forms and conventions. Before creating my front cover, contents page and double page spread, I considered whether to follow the traditional forms and conventions myself and I thought it would be best as all the other magazines I researched sold a lot so I didn’t want to change from what people seem to like.

TECHNOLOGY:

I have used a number of different software's to complete my magazine including; Paint, Photoshop, PowerPoint and Word just to name a few.

I have learnt and developed my skills throughout this task as before I didn’t even know how to use Photoshop but now I can do lots of things such as; black and white, blur and shapes.

PRELIMINARY:

Doing my preliminary really helped me because I realised Photoshop is quite a difficult software to get the hang of so I made sure I practised on it in my own time. It also gave me an idea of what I do and don’t appreciate on a magazine front cover.

If I were to make a magazine again I would try and spend more time making and designing the products so they look to a better standard, but personally I am pleased with my results as I find Photoshop very hard to use although you can definitely see a difference in my real thing and prelim.

How did you attract and address your audience?

• I attracted my audience with the best of my ability through how I designed and laid out my front cover firstly, as that is the first thing people see. It is simple but classy and the girl is attractive and young which implies this should be for people of a similar age and style. Through my research I found that people like pictures and text to be equally used so it is not too much of one or the other. I also found that simple colours are better because too many colours make it confusing, that is why I only used red, black and white. I incorporated all these features because they seemed to be most popular and would attract the most people.
