Screen grab 1. This screen grab shows the artist getting beaten up by a group of guys, this links to the lyrics because it says in the lyrics “something I have never felt before” this feeling is him being beaten up.

Screen grab 2. The shot shows the artist singing whilst sitting down. The company will like how the artist is represented because itshows him as a talented singer whilst. Furthermore because he is not dancing or moving around it shows that he is not just aboutdancing but that he is representable singer.

Screen grab 3. The music genre is captured in this screen grab through the fighting scene. It is very often in these dance genre videosthat there is fighting evolved, especially in Plan B’s music, in 5/8 videos I could find of this artist he is fighting or someone else is fighting in the video.

Screen grab 4. The song End Credits was made for a violent film called “Harry Brown”, in this film there was a lot of fighting, the viewers of this film will when they watch my video an reference it back to the film.

Screen grab 5. We made this a high angle shot to represent the artist being higher than the others, we also did this so that the artist could look down on the camera, this will also give the impression that he is higher.

Screen grab 6. Again there is a shot of the artist getting beaten up, but the light over head is really important because as the other boys hunch over the artist hitting him it puts a shadow over him which gives the impression that he is in a “dark place” or surrounded by evil.

Screen grab 7. In this shot it shows the artist walking down a set of stairs with a light behind him. This shows mise-en-scene because it gives the impression that he is descending in to darkness. Moreover the shot shows the run down/ cheap lighting and the metalbanaster which makes it look very cheap.

Screen grab 8. This shot is from “Kasabian” “Club Foot” my partner and I looked in to this video to in detail because it showed the run down bleak look we wanted for our video. A lot of the Club Foot video is in this setting of run-down buildings which gives the impression of a council estate etc. this is what we wanted to capture in our video.

Screen grab 9. This grab is from Chase and status feat Plan B “End credits” which is the song we used in our video. Although we knewwe could not copy the video we wanted to adapt the shots they used in this music video in to ours. In the screen grab it shows the artist lying down instead of using the same shot we changed it to our artist sitting with the camera looking up at him.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? The combination between my music video stills and my ancillary pictures are very similar, they both use the same lighting and are both set in the same location this makes it very effective in many aspects, such as advertising, recognisability and dynamics. From the advertising point of view it is very positive, because the front cover of the CD case is in the same room and has the same lighting, surroundings etc, for example you can see the black pipes running along the wall in both shots. The viewers who see it on “Youtube” or on T.V will be able to recognise the CD and artist from just glancing at the front cover. This then leads me on to my next point which is recognisability. This is where someone can look at something and know what it is instantly. My video and ancillary shots have done this very well as I was saying can see they are in the same room etc. but looking more in to this even though the artist isn’t wearing the same clothes as seen in the video it is still very recognisable. Customers/fans will know who the artist is on first glace. The dynamics of both the video and ancillary shots are good. Because background of the shots is very plain it makes the artist stand out a lot more than if they are colour-full. More over because they artist is standing in a dramatic pose it draws a lot more attention to the cover. The effectiveness of the combination of my main product and ancillary texts is very good, they blend in to each other and you can see that it is the same artist.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?1. class and teacher feedback on your initial treatment2. rough cut- class feedback and teacher feedback3. class feedback on your digipack roughs4. final version of everything- class feedback and feedback from anyone else

1. class and teacher feedback.Once I had finished my initial treatment I printed out some copy’s so that people in my class could look through and see what they thought on my treatment. I had the same message from about everyone in the class saying that there was too much “Block writing” and “needs more pictures” this was very help full and quite strait forward to sort out. I kept the writing but split up the paragraphs with pictures illustrating what I was saying.Jordan Fergison – “in depth but not enough pictures, also hard to read due to blocks of writing”Gracie Miller – “Loads of writing not enough pictures”Nick Ellis – “needs to be broken down with pictures”

2. Rough cut – class feedback and teacher feedback.I received very positive feedback for my screen grabs; from both my video and from a real video. My class told me that the screen grabs are easy to look at and represent clearly what I was talking about. Furthermore I gave my tutor a copy and from reading and looking at my pictures he knew what I was talking about.Jordan Fregison – “clear, I like it”Mikael Syropoulo – “yeh it looks good”

3. My early sketches of my digipak were very basic, just showing the position of the artist and what I was going to do with the digipak. I drew two to three sketches for each section of my digipak, this would give my class mates something to compare each one to. Feed back Gracie Miller: although the sketches are not in great detail they are clear and are easy to understand. Out of the front cover sketches I think first one is best; mainly because it will look quite cool in a real picture. But either one would look good on the front of the cover.Nick Ellis: the back cover is really effective with the artist looking up at the song list. If this picture is done right it will look really good. The other back cover with the picture running down the right hand side will be really good because it will grab the viewers’ attention and draw him/her in.

Charlie Moffat: The insides cover with the biography and the picture behind the writing is the most original idea, most of the digipak’s which I have seen have a biography on the inside cover, but on the other hand quite a lot of people do not read the biography (me being one of them) so the other inside cover which have pictures instead could be better.

for 4. again note down any responses you get.The overall response I received from both class and out side class feed back was that the front cover was very eye catching. The parts witch caught the eye were the ratings on the front cover, and the artist standing with his arms out with the light in the back ground shining down on him. Further more the feed back says that the majority of people who I asked thought that the biography was a added extra to the digipak.

Rose Buchanan = what parts of the digipak attracted you to it? The front cover gets your attention very well, it made me double glace! Are you pleased with the amount you get in the digipak? Yes think it is the right amount, there isn't enough to make you swamped, but enough to glance over quickly. What sections do you feel let you down? The section which let me down the most wasn't a section, I felt that there wasn't enough pictures showing the band in action.

Evaluation task 4How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages

• Equipment• Youtube• Blooger• Facebook• Vagas video editing• Wikipedia

EquipmentSamsung camcorderWe used the Samsung SC-HMX20C which can record at 1080p and has a shutter speed of 1/10,000th of a second. Any way my partner and I used this camera to film our music video, it was very easy to use and to set up. The only criticism is that it has a fairly poor anti shake mode.

HP G62 laptopThis is my laptop witch I used to edit pictures and write my preproduction and my evaluation. I found it a lot easier to do my coursework on my lap top because I could do it any where, where as if I had done it on a standard computer, I would only be able to work on that computer ( unless I email or transfer my work to another commuter). My laptop also accessed me to the internet which gave me all the information and sites which I have talked about on the other pages.

Praktica DCZ 5.8This is also my camera which was used to take the location shots. It is a 5 mega pixel camera which makes it perfect for the cellar locations we were shooting.

YoutubeYoutube played a significant part in the development of our music video, it helped us find examples of other A2 music videos but also other videos played by our artist (Plan B). By looking at the many different videos played by Plan B we could find what the general theme of all of his videos were, this was fighting (as shown in our video). Youtube also opened us up to the A2 media world, we could watch the videos of last years students and compare them to our video. This was hugely beneficial because we could see if we have done some thing wrong and adapt our video.Further more we found a lot of help on Youtube people talking about how to make the best “over the shoulder shot” etc.

BloogerBlooger is where I put my pre-production portfolio and also where I will post my evaluation for the music video. Blooger enabled me to look at exemplar work which my teacher posted, this was hugely beneficial because i could compare my work with the work of other students from the past. For example I could look at other pre production folders and see what I have missed and add it in or expand on what I have already done.Blooger also allowed my partner and I to share our work, such as our video which I posted on my wall and he took a link of this to his page.

FacebookFacebook was also use full in gathering feed back from my audience. I could post a video and my friends could post what they though of the video, this halved the time it would of taken me if I was to show it to people individually.Facebook also allowed me to contact the actors and my partner, I would set up a page with all my filming dates which they could see, this would mean that there would be no confusion over when we are filming.

Vegas video editingVegas video editing was were my partner and I achieved all of our editing for our video, it is a very easy system to use with loads of capability's.When editing we could just drag the digital folder in to the program and it would bring it up ready to be chopped and cut and edited. We could also drop the mp.3 or our song “End Credits” strait in and it would set it up running along the middle of the screen.

Wikipedia

Wikipedia was the most beneficial out of all the online software.I was able to research on artists e.g. what they have done, links to videos etc.I was able to find controversial facts about music videos I was researching on. But on the other hand I could also find out about hidden meanings behind videos such as “Kanye West Power”, which had loads of hidden meanings behind it Wikipedia had them all either on the page or on links to the pages.
