Task One

Page 2: Evaluation

My magazine has its title across the top which follows magazine conventions.

It also has a bar code but does unlike most magazines it has been placed at the top left instead of near the bottom on the right.

It also has the name of the featured artists in big letters around about the middle of the page

Also like many other magazines it has subheadings of what you can find on the inside across the bottom.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The genre of music that I did was Rnb/Hip-Hop and this is mostly listened to by the afro-Caribbean community. This is shown on the front cover as 2 out of 3 people on the front cover are black.

The social group that this is aimed at is shown in the people that are also featuring in the magazine. That are written on the right side of the magazine, all of them are Rnb or hip hop artists.

Young people are also represented on the front cover as the people on the front cover are all adolescent.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media

product and why? I would use IPC media to distribute my

magazine for they are a popular and well known distributor in the U.K.

As they are such a big company they would know exactly what they are doing and will have good knowledge on how to market my magazine.

I would also choose them for what they say on their website “IPC Media produces over 60 iconic media brands, with print alone reaching almost two thirds of UK women and 42% of UK men – almost 26 million UK adults”, this shows the wide audience that they distribute to and this will bring a bigger chance of more magazines being sold.

4. Who would the audience be for your media product?

The target for my audience would be mainly black people from the age sixteen and upwards.

From my questionnaire they were the main people that would read the kind of magazine that I was making.

I choose to aim my magazine at young people because although they are not earning the most money, music is usually involved in their lives a lot more than adults.

5. How did you attract/address your audience?

I attracted my audience by making sure that the articles in the magazine would be something they would want to read. I also made sure that the front cover was eye-catching and that I chose colors that would pop out and catch the eye of passers by.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? (Screenshots will help to illustrate this)

One thing I learned was how to edit pictures in Photoshop, so that they would blend nicely with my magazine.

For example like the two photos on the left. i only wanted the person in the picture but not the background, so that it would seem as it is just him standing on the page instead of him and the background being there.

I also had to make parts of the trousers darker so that it was visible, I done this with Photoshop, this is another skill I learned.

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you

have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? I feel that I have learnt how to

use many programs, such as Photoshop and in design. These programs helped to make magazine look professional. I also learnt more about magazine conventions and a professional looking magazine should be set out.
