ABSTRACT
The targets of the study are to assess the prevailing expertise concerning the use of partograph among the nursing
students, evaluate the effectiveness of a structured teaching programme (STP) on developing expertise regarding
partograph within the nursing college students and assess the pre-test knowledge rankings regarding partograph
with the chosen demographic variables of the nursing students. A pre experimental one group pre-test post-test
design was used. Statistics was accumulated with the aid of convenient sampling method from 48 (forty eight) 4th
year BSc Nursing students from a selected nursing college of Kanyakumari district of Tamilnadu. The tool included 5
demographic variables and 25 established know-how questionnaires regarding expertise on partograph. The pre-
test was conducted using an established interview questionnaire. STP changed into performed and guide became
given to every character following STP. After 7 days, post-test was performed using the same interview
questionnaire. Facts changed into analyzed by means of the use of inferential and descriptive information. The
study revealed that 35% of college students had mild knowledge and 65% had inadequate expertise in the pre-test
and after STP 35% had desirable/ adequate knowledge and 65% had moderate knowledge. Computed ‘ t’ test value
suggested that post-test knowledge score regarding partograph (17.52) was considerably higher than mean pre-
test knowledge score (11.01) at p<0.05 level. The ‘t’ cost changed into giant (t= 14.23) at p<0.05 degree indicating
the established teaching programme on information concerning partograph changed into effective.
Key Words: Structured teaching programme, Partograph, Nursing students.

condition (c) Progress of labour.
Consequently, an initiative is taken to improve the pleasant of to be had services through, higher control,
improvement of information and abilities amongst student nurses, nurses and other fitness care specialists.
OBJECTIVES
1. To assess the knowledge of 4th
year BSc Nursing students regarding Partograph before and after administering
structured teaching programme.
2. To find out association between knowledge and the selected demographic variables, such as Age, Gender,
Religion, Type of Family, Previous source of information.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
The conceptual framework turned into primarily based on Kenny’s Open machine version. All the dwelling
structures are open, in that there's non-stop trade of be counted, energy and records. Open system has changing
diploma of interaction with the surroundings from which the device receives enter, and offers back output within
the form of be counted energy and records. The main concepts of open gadget version are input, throughput,
output and feedback.

METHODOLOGY
Research approach
An experimental approach was used to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on
Partograph.
Research design
The study utilised Pre- experimental one group pre-test and post-test design. Pre-test was done on selected
samples by using tool I and tool II and then structured teaching programme was conducted. After 7 days of using
tool II, expertise was reassessed. The schematic representation of the present study design is as follows:

Exclusion criteria
Nursing college students who were unavailable or absent at the time of records series.
Nursing college students who were not willing to take part in the study.
Description of the tool
A closed ended questionnaire was prepared to gather the essential statistics from the samples. The tool consisted
of 2 components.
Component 1 - Evaluation of demographic variables.
Component 2 - Information concerning Partograph
The dependent questionnaire regarding partograph included multiple-choice questions underneath three
components which include which means and Definition, cause and standards, monitoring labour and Charting of
Partograph. Each query has 4 suggested responses with 1 correct solution. Rating '1' was given for every correct
answer to a single question and rating '0' was given for wrong answer.

Analysis of pre-test knowledge level of fourth year BSc Nursing students on Partograph
The above Figure reveals that as regards pre-test expertise ratings of nursing students on partograph, 32 (65 per
cent) students had insufficient expertise and 16 (35 per cent) students had moderately adequate expertise.
Analysis of post-test knowledge level of fourth year BSc Nursing students on Partograph
The above Figure reveals that as per post-test expertise ratings of nursing students on partograph, 32 (65 per cent)
students had moderate expertise and 16 (35 per cent) students had good enough expertise.
Difference in the Mean Level of Knowledge of Samples Before and After Structured Teaching Programme

’t’ Value Mean SD Mean SD
Expertise rating 11.01 15.3 17.52 10.8 14.23*
*Significant at P < 0.05.
The above Table reveals that the mean post-test expertise rating (17.52) was higher than mean pre-test expertise
rating (11.01). The computed ‘t’ value 14.23, (P< 0.05) showed that there was a significant difference between the
pre-test and post-test mean expertise ratings. Hence hypothesis H1 was accepted. This suggests that the STP turned
out to be effective in enhancing the knowledge on partograph of 4th year BSc nursing students.

CONCLUSION
On the premise of findings of the present study, following conclusions have been drawn:
1. The expertise of students regarding partograph became insufficient when utilized in pre- take a look at. While
the knowledge stage is improved at some stage in the post-check.
2. STP became effective in enhancing the knowledge of student nurses on partograph. There is significant
difference between the pre-test and post-test expertise. Those rankings were validated by way of the usage
of‘t’ test. The analysis of suggest, SD of the information rankings in pre-take a look at and post-test revealed
that the mean pre-test understanding rating was 11.01 whereas submit-take a look at mean score was 17.52
This suggests there is excessive suggest difference (6.53) inside the effectiveness of STP. Usual place wise
findings found out that the effectiveness of STP changed into more while in comparison to the pre-test
knowledge. The finding concluded that the intervention changed into very powerful in increasing their
expertise concerning the use of partograph.
