What  is  a  Science  Shop?  

A  unit  that  provides  independent,  par7cipatory  research  support  in  response  to  concerns  experienced  by  civil  society

Science  Shops  use  the  term  “science”  in  its  broadest  sense,  incorpora7ng  social  and  human  sciences,  as  well  as  natural,  physical,  engineering  and  technical  sciences

Science  Shop  History  

First  Science  Shop  was  founded  in  Netherlands  –  70s  

Today,  Science  Shops  exist  all  over  Europe

How  it  works?  

1.  Ques7ons  from  civil  society  organiza7ons  are  rephrased  to  scien7fic  research  projects  

2.  Students,  under  supervision  of  a  professor  then  perform  the  research,  or  a  researcher  does  it    

3.  The  research  will  lead  to  a  report,  which  is  made  to  be  of  use  to  the  client
